Wow! Congrats, Belinda! I'm falling behind, myself. I had had a goal to read two a month, but my May was so busy (and so full of reading distractions) that I didn't get my "May books" read. So I have what feels like a lot of catching up to do!

But when I remember that I didn't discover Read Harder 2015 until March or April or May, and I still managed to finish it on time, I stop worrying. ;-)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 131 comments After debating this challenge for half the year, I've finally decided to add it on to my goals. Since I'm starting so late, I've decided I'm going to give myself 1 year from the day I start (July 1), although ideally I would like to be done by the end of December. I'm also probably going to go back and do last year's Book Riot challenge as well, most likely on the same timeline.

As part of my challenge, I'm also trying to include more graphic novels. Partly because of wanting to complete the challenge in a reasonable amount of time, and also partly because graphic novels are not something that I'd read very often. I thought it would be interesting to try a different format.

Here's my tentative plan, at least with the books I've already chosen:
1. Read a Horror Book – Haven't decided yet, I've been looking for a good horror graphic novel
2. Read a non-fiction book about science - No book in mind yet, but most likely something to do with teaching animals sign language, or psychological case studies
3. Read a collection of essays – The Psychology of Harry Potter: An Unauthorized Examination Of The Boy Who Lived or The Psychology of the Simpsons: D'oh!
4. Read a book out loud to someone else – When Elephant met Giraffe. This is the one book I've already completed earlier this year, read to a participant in the program where I work.
5. Read a middle grade novel – Wonder
6. Read a biography (not memoir or autobiography) –
7. Read a dystopian or post-apocalyptic novel – More Than This or Pandemonium
8. Read a book originally published in the decade you were born
9. Listen to an audiobook that has won an Audie Award
10. Read a book over 500 pages long – Beautiful Creatures
11. Read a book under 100 pages –
12. Read a book by or about a person that identifies as transgender – The Art of Being Normal
13. Read a book that is set in the Middle East – The Complete Persepolis
14. Read a book that is by an author from Southeast Asia – The Book of Salt or Bitter in the Mouth
15. Read a book of historical fiction set before 1900 – The Crucible
16. Read the first book in a series by a person of color – Noughts & Crosses
17. Read a non-superhero comic that debuted in the last 3 years – Awkward
18. Read a book that was adapted into a movie, then watch the movie. Debate which is better. – The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend
19. Read a non-fiction book about feminism or dealing with feminist themes – Reading Lolita in Tehran or Everyday Sexism or Cinderella Ate My Daughter: Dispatches from the Frontlines of the New Girlie-Girl Culture
20. Read a book about religion (fiction or non-fiction) – Devoted
21. Read a book about politics, in your country or another (fiction or non-fiction) -- The Complete Maus
22. Read a food memoir – Relish: My Life in the Kitchen
23. Read a play – The Miracle Worker
24. Read a book with a main character that has mental illness –Highly Illogical Behavior

Janna (weyrcat) | 3 comments I wanted to try to do the challenge with graphic novels, but I was running into some dead ends. So, I'm saving lists where I found graphic novels that helped me reach those goals, in case others want to do it too.

6, 13, 22, Nonfiction Graphic Novels:
http://www.theatlantic.com/entertainm...

5, 16, 19, 20, 21, Graphic Novels by Women:
http://www.bustle.com/articles/132931...

7. Dystopian Graphic Novels: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/4...

1, 9. This Audie winning audiobook is based the graphic novel Locke and Key by Joe Hill (also counts as 1, Horror). Currently hard to find for free (library, Hoopla, etc).
http://www.audiofilemagazine.com/revi...
Also counts, White Trash Zombie Gone Wild by Diana Rowland | Read by Allison McLemore.
http://www.audiofilemagazine.com/revi...
They seem to be the only to Graphic Novel to Audiobook Audie winners.

10. Graphic novels over 500 pages:

13, 15, Graphic novels for History:

Nancy Groves | 67 comments Even though I've read and listened to about 90 books so far this year, it's clear I'm not going to finish the challenge. I've read books that fit about 2/3 of the items on the list and have identified titles that fit the other categories, but I've also chosen to read a lot of books that don't match any items on this list or on the Pop Sugar challenge, which I also won't finish. I don't feel like focusing exclusively on the unfinished categories for the remaining weeks of the year, but will almost certainly get around to some of the books I tagged as possibilities for this list, if not this year then next. Of course I'll check out the 2017 challenges and start working on those, but I've decided it's not worth stressing out if I don't finish them. Congrats to all who do! Seeing a book I just read on someone else's list of the completed challenge just made me realize I could count it in a category I hadn't considered, so that's one item more to check off.
