Cindie | 1836 comments 30.7 - Catherine T's task: A New Start in Art

Because this is a new start, both books must be new to you, not rereads. And because it's a job, one must be non-fiction.

Required: State that both books are new to you and which options you chose when you post.

1. Great Art: I read The Spy Who Loved: The Secrets and Lives of Christine Granville by Clare Mulley. This book is new to me and is nonfiction, about the life of Polish spy Christine Granville. The author's initials, CM, are the same as Claude Monet's. this book was approved in the help thread.

3. Great Location: The Gallery is on Trafalgar Square, which plays host to lots of mass celebrations such as the VE Day or New Years Eve.
Read a book in which the first letter of each word in the title can be found in TRAFALGAR SQUARE. Subtitles may be ignored. One word titles are fine.

I read The First Stone. This book is new to me. T, F and S are all found in TRAFALGAR SQUARE. This book was approved in the help thread.

10.6 - It's Cold Here, but Colder There!

Read a book set at least 50% in one of these (Russia/Canada/Greenland/Iceland/Norway/Sweden/Finland) countries.

--Read: Astrid and Veronika by Linda Olsson - 272 pages

More than 50% set in Sweden (and an absolutely STUNNING book!)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
10.10 - Jump!
Read a book with a number of pages that is evenly divisible by 4.
--Read: The Diver's Clothes Lie Empty by Vendela Vida
224 pages / 4 = 56
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

20.1 - Most Improved - Megan W's task: (Super)Heroes

Option 2: Read a non-fiction book by or about someone you consider heroic.

--Read: Daisy Bates in the Desert: A Woman's Life Among the Aborigines by Julia Blackburn - 240 pages

Biographical details of Daisy Bates' life are sketchy, in part because she was a fabulist. What is known is that she, an Edwardian woman in Edwardian dress, lived alone in the Australian desert for more than 40 years, researching and recording Aboriginal life, history, language, culture, rites, beliefs and customs. Mighty heroic, for a woman of her era.
