Book 1: The House of the Mosque. Because in the mosque the rooms were quite bare, but also very pretty in that way it reminded me of the simple room in this van Gogh's painting Another reason for the connection is that the painting always brings feelings of being home to my mind and the mosque is also a home to the people who lived there.
Book 2: Jamaica Inn. This is a book about an inn who's glory days have passed. The painting also gives me vibes of rooms in an inn whos best days have gone by.
Hope this is explanation enough!
