20.1 Most Improved - Megan W's task: (Super)Heroes
Superhero movies and T.V. shows are one of my guilty pleasures, but I also love learning about acts of heroism done by real people in everyday life. For this task, choose ONE of these options:

Required: Specify which option you picked when you post.

1) Read a book with the main page genre “Superheroes” (embedded or standalone).

OR

2) Read a non-fiction book by or about someone who you consider heroic.
Required: Include an explanation of who you think is heroic and why.

Books with the genre Sequential Art (Comics, Graphic Novels, Manga) are acceptable for this task so long as they comply with standard SRC challenge rules.

I picked option 1 and read a book with the main page genre superheroes.

Hellblazer, Vol. 1: Original Sins

This book complies with the SRC challenge rules as it has 304 pages.

15.9 Degas and the Dancers

Degas is especially identified with the subject of dance, and over half his works depict dancers.

Read a book that features dancers. The connection must be obvious from the Goodreads book main page: title, genre, description, reviews, etc.

I chose to read Ballet Shoes for this task. This book is a children's book but meets the criteria laid out in the rules. The AR ratings are as follows: IL - MG; BL - 5.7; AR pts. 9.0

I read Dressed for Death (Commissario Brunetti, #3) by Donna Leon - gondolier wearing a hat on the cover. Cover approved in the help thread and listed in post 2.

20.1 Most Improved - Megan W's task: (Super)Heroes
I chose option 2 and read I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban. Nonfiction, autobiography. I admire and consider heroic a teenage girl who publicly defied those who would prevent girls from being educated. I found it very interesting, reading this, to find that she was already a public figure, appearing with her father on tv/radio shows and speaking at various events, well before she was shot - somehow, before reading this, I did not realize that her father owned a school and that she worked with him in publicizing the issue of education for girls.

25.14 - JennRenee's task: Winter Wonderland
For my first book, I chose option 2 and read Dead with the Wind. "Mystery>Cozy mystery" is the 2nd genre on the main page. 304 pages.

For my second book, I chose option 6 and read The Hit - 528 pages, so has both numbers 5 and 2 in the page count.

Total page count for the books is 832, exceeding the required 800 page minimum.

Task 30.2- Jonquil's task: You think you saw what?

Book 1 Inspiration: Mary Cassatt by Forty Sandra

Dryland

The title of the book I read is Dryland. This cover has the two girls safely on dry land. The main character of the book is talked into joining the swim team by another girl, so the image of two girls, together, but not together, also goes along with the story of the book I read.

Book 2 Inspiration: Gustave Caillebotte by Kirk Varnedoe

Speak

The title of the book I read was Speak. In this painting, it looks as though the two people are speaking, especially since the man appears to be leaning in toward the woman.

15.2 Word for Word.
Book 1. I read Change We Can Believe In: Barack Obama's Plan to Renew America's Promise by Barack Obama and “Team Book.” The foreward by President Obama is very good, but "Team Book" did a very dijointed job of throwing together the rest of the explanation of "the Plan."

Book 2. I read Method 15/33 by Shannon Kirk.

The synonyms are “Plan” and “Method.”

15.9 Degas’ Dancers -- I read Out on a Limb, a book wherein Shirley Maclaine announces that she is first and foremost a “gypsy” dancer. “It’s an appropriate term – always on the move,” she says to the married European congressman with whom she has an affair, for which this book is primarily an apology.
