Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Steven and I are at book #8. I just challenged him to do a Dresden read-a-Thon *grins*

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Off course that was before I remember that between now and May will occur several major releases, like:

Night Broken (Mercy Thompson, #8) by Patricia Briggs The Forever Song (Blood of Eden, #3) by Julie Kagawa & Dreams of Gods & Monsters (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #3) by Laini Taylor

And I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I'll be starting Changes (The Dresden Files, #12) by Jim Butcher on the 17th of February.

For Night Broken (Mercy Thompson, #8) by Patricia Briggs I don't know if I'm even signing onto GRs. LOL! I have the whole day blocked off on my calendar.

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Let's do it!

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments I loooove the Mercy books.

message 408: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie (darlingdoor) | 1733 comments Happy V-Day, Violet!

I'm also super excited for Mercy! I didn't get the hype with the first few novels, but I've really enjoyed the last few installments in the series. I can't wait to see what new trouble she gets into :)

message 409: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments *grins* This thread is so poorly named. Sure, we talk about Dresden here, but how many other series reads have we started from here?

I consider this thread my favourite paranormal fiction thread ;)

message 410: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments **chuckles** Good point, Nicole.

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Yes it is a good point. So to keep the thread name oriented I have a challenge:

THE DRESDEN-RACE READING CHALLENGE

Goal: Read as much Dresden books as you can, till the release of Skin Game (The Dresden Files, #15) by Jim Butcher (May 24th)

How to play: Keep your reading schedule while reading Dresden on the side. As long as you can read a chapter a day, your game!

Note: if you miss one day, is OK. Just compensate as soon as you can

☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆

Steven and I are totally doing it. So who's with us?

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Sonia wrote: "Steven and I are totally doing it. So who's with us? "

Me probably. I've been reading quietly on the side and caught up with you two. ☺
I'll probably start Proven Guilty at the end of the month. And then go on from there.

message 413: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I don't know about reading a chapter a day. I have "buddy reads" scheduled for the rest of the books. **gasp** (In another group!)

Quiet and sneaky like a true hobbit! Bilbo would be so proud *grins*

As long as you're up to date or close to that on the release date, it counts :)

Oh, I'll definitely be up-to-date. So, I'm in! Yay!

message 417: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Just read 9% of Proven Guilty! Will read more later today, but nee to try to finally finish Storm of Swords! It's taking me forever and season three is finally released for us to watch Monday and I want to have as much of book three read as I can since they're not exactly verbatim on the show. No book spoilers for me haha

Neat idea Sonia!
I 'm only up to book 5 so not sure how far I'll get, but I will try!

message 419: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 757 comments I'm in for this challenge, I'm right before starting Dead Beat, and this is a great motivation to speed up with this series :)

message 420: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie (darlingdoor) | 1733 comments Can't catch me, Sonia! Muahahahaha.

message 421: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments I'm at Death Masks... Hmm. It's unlikely for me at best considering my other to be read pile... But maybe.

message 422: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Oh ha, it's at the library I'm already going to today. I'm totally in.

message 423: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Awwwwww Ashley Marie, you say the most motivating things :-)

So many dresden-racers!

*claps hands with glee*

I'm at 13% with Proven Guilty. And as Steven said, push push push

message 424: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments I just read my chapter for today, beginning Death Masks and whoa. Way to start a book! Dresden and a talk show! :D

message 425: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Steven, if I remember correctly, season 3 of GoT only covered half of book 3. If that helps ease the pressure! :)

message 426: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments I'm up to Blood Rites, which I need to start soon. I'll try to catch up, so what the heck, count me in for the challenge.

message 427: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Somewhere closer to three quarters, by my recollection. But Logan's right. There's plenty of time to read GoT. More reason to prioritise it under Dresden ;)

message 428: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I just started at 20% and am putting the Kindle down to sleep at 71%. I could keep reading but I don't want to be too useless tomorrow! Loving Proven Guilty.

I read a little more of Storm of Swords but something sad happened in a Jon Snow chapter and I had to stop for my emotional sanity. LOL

Indeed! I am trying to finish it over the next few days as I have a line up of other books calling me ;)

Edit - finished today! I really enjoyed this one.
Death Masks (The Dresden Files, #5) by Jim Butcher

(view spoiler)

message 432: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Well, I've read my chapter again for today. Which rewarded me with Murphy!

message 433: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 757 comments I'm 10% in Dead Beat and already loving it (of course polka rulez), but also the whole story with Murphy sounds really intriguing.

message 434: by ElvenRaven (new)

ElvenRaven | 56 comments I'm in! I discovered the Dresden Files this year, and I've read books 1-5 between January and February, they're that addictive. Right now I'm reading Blood Rites... between Harry and Thomas, there's a lot of snark going on!

message 435: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments YEY! Another Dresden-Racer! Welcome to the fun Cin :o)

@Karen, Death Masks is one of my favs so far.

message 436: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments I finished Blood Rites tonight. What a ride! Harry had some awesome one liners in this book and I have to say that the erotic film angle was just bonkers and hilarious.

(view spoiler)

message 437: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 757 comments I finished Dead Beat couple of days ago, and I'm moving to Proven Guilty soon.

I really like Dead Beat. (view spoiler). I'm really looking forward to the next installment.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I finished Changes (#12) the other day. Whoa. I'm still stunned. I don't know how JB does it. This series is already excellent - and it just keeps getting better and better. How is that possible?

message 439: by Ashley Marie (new)

Changes is B.A.N.A.N.A.S. Like, crazy town. I remember reading it for the first time (before Ghost Story was published), and just being bereft. I didn't know what to do with myself after "the things" happened! I thought there was no going back from that! I can't wait to see your reaction to some of the things that happen in Ghost Story, LK...but I'm even more excited to see your reaction to something that happens in Cold Days!

message 440: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I'll kept you posted, Ash.

message 441: by ElvenRaven (new)

ElvenRaven | 56 comments I finished Dead Beat today. I really liked it, it's amazing how Jim Butcher keeps surprising me with new creatures and plot twists. But, the best part of the whole book can be summed up in just a word for me: (view spoiler)
I'm also really intrigued about (view spoiler)

message 442: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie (darlingdoor) | 1733 comments Cin, I agree completely about that being the best part :D

message 443: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Love your first spoiler, Cin.

message 444: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments You know, I tried to read one chapter a day, but I found it really hard. Not just because the book was good. But because it's so hard for me to keep up interest in a thirty chapter book read slowly over a month :/

Anyone else?

message 445: by Karen ⊰✿, Fiction Aficionado (new)

Karen ⊰✿ | 16594 comments Mod
Yes I tied too Nicole, but I find I need to read in larger chunks. I have them on my kindle so I'm giving 10% a day a go

message 446: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments You're not the only one Nicole. I read more than a chapter a day, or nothing.

message 447: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments As long as I'm up to date or close to that before Skin Game (The Dresden Files, #15) by Jim Butcher , the challenge is complete :)

message 448: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 757 comments I tend to read these books within one or two sittings, but then I usually need a break, thus I read two a month. Now Proven Guilty is coming :)

Is anyone interested in a regular "buddy read" of the Dresden Files Ghost Story (The Dresden Files, #13) by Jim Butcher and Cold Days (The Dresden Files, #14) by Jim Butcher to be done in May before Skin Game by Jim Butcher comes out? The Discussion Questions are already written.

message 450: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments FYI, I'm all caught up and ready for Skin Game by Jim Butcher - and have it pre-ordered on audio.
