LK, that video is hilarious!
Has Butters been introduced as a major character yet for where you are in the series?
Because if he hasn't yet, you're in for a treat!

Thanks for this video. And indeed, Butters is one great character.
I amazingly have some of these on my kindle and I'm in for no other reason that someone mentioned James Marsters :-)

You're welcome, Nicole!
I don't remember any Butters prior to Dead Beat. Something to look forward to :0)
Ok, just started
I'm only 15% in, but I'm liking it. The style is interesting how they are just peppering bits of info in about the "magic" world without forcing descriptions down your throat. Nice to have a male narrator for a change too.

The male narrator makes a big change. I think this was one of the first books of this kind to be narrated by a guy. Now there are tonnes of them.
James Marsters does an amazing job with these books. There's one of the later books (Ghost Story I think) that he had a scheduling conflict and couldn't narrate. I couldn't listen to it with another narrator - I finally gave up and bought the dead tree version. It just isn't Harry without Marsters' growl.
I'd heard he didn't do all of the books. Does he come back again after Ghost Story though? I mean, if it was just a scheduling conflict that one time...
Yep, he was back for Cold Days. There was such an uproar about the narration change for Ghost Story that I think they would have scheduled the release of the audiobook around him if necessary! To the best of my knowledge, there's only the one full-length story that he didn't narrate (I don't think he's done any of the short stories, however, with the exception of the collection Side Jobs).
Hahaha! Yeah, I guess I'll have to get myself a copy of Ghost Story now and save myself the pain later on ;)I thought Side Jobs was the only short story anthology that had been released! Or, do you mean ones that have appeared in other books with other people?
I have just listened to first few chapters of Storm Front and I'm already in love with James Marsters voice. Wow, wow, wow. I've always been sensitive to male voices, but his is exceptionally pleasurable to listen to :D. And I definitely like the story, which is equally important for me.
Yes, his voice is amazing. I can't imagine what is to "read" Dresden, since Marsters is the only way for me.

Ok, so I liked that we recently got to see some actual wizardry. I loved the "catching" of the fairy! I also liked being able to see what Harry can actually do with the confrontation with the vamp and then the 'visitor' to his home.
He seems to have a lot of people after him. I think the mob and the vamp, but then also his "missing husband" case must have a connection. I have a feeling there is more to that than meets the eye, and perhaps that guy is responsible for the killings? hmmmm

Hahah. Oh Karen, Harry only ends up having more and more people "after him" as the books go on. I had completely forgot it started so early.
Jim Butcher has said in interviews that he sort of feels bad for how much bad stuff happens to Harry. He said he stays up at night dreaming up ways to have terrible stuff happen to Harry, and new people to try to get him.
haha
Ok, so I have finished Storm Front. what a lot of fun. This is definitely a series for me when you want to just read something to have a grand old time.
I think my favourite line was when the photographer says:
"I shot my roll and got out". I grinned, but he didn't seem to have noticed the doule entendre. You just don't get quality lowlife often enough anymore"

Yeah, Karen... it was a fun book. So was book two... even with the grit and gore.Gritty paranormal noir. :) Who knew?
haha indeed!
Well I am going to start book 2 on audio (thanks Sonia).
I currently have The Adventures of Augie March going as my audio book, but it is *22 hours*! So I am going to pause that for a bit and have Harry on my commute instead :)

Gritty paranormal noir... such an evocative and accurate summation! Hey Karen, I'm in a lot of different threads with you at the moment and am completely floored by how much reading you are managing to keep on top of!
haha Nicole... But if you are also in those threads then aren't you also keeping on top of all that reading? ;)
Omg. How can I concentrate on this book with James Marsters narrating?! It is like being covered in warm honey
*slap*
Must re-start and try and listen to the actual words
Dresden was one of my first audio books, so I started with a bang. Just imagine my disappointment when I found out there weren't all like that.
And since Dresden is a bit intense... the audio allows for a slower pace... it gives the brain time to process all and breathe... Plus the warmth on Marsters voice acts like a comfort blanket against the darkness of the gritty paranormal noir touch :)
Hoping to listen to the first one in November. I have too many books (including audios!) on my plate right now. I'm really looking forward to checking out this series and definitely want to try the audio version!

I had the exact same problem, Sonia :( I was so disappointed in my first post-Dresden audiobook.

Haha, that is so funny. I MUST get these on audio!!
He does. Only for Dresden. His narration of Carnival of Souls is very good too but is less personal.
I guess he gives it an extra on a first person angle. Which I totally go for it, since he makes Harry so much worth it.
Chapter 27
You're right about Jimbo throwing everything at poor Harry!!
