Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments I let myself get sucked into the world of Cat and Bones in Halfway to the Grave, but now I'm jumping into Fool Moon. Is Kim a new character or did we meet her in Storm Front?

Kim is new. She wasn't in Storm Front.

Pardon my ignorance, but how is Halfway to the Grave connected to Dresden? (another series for me to read?! ;) )

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Haha, Karen, I think she's just saying she got sucked into another series but is now finding her way back to this one. It probably relates more to the comments that were made about how so many of us are wrapped up in a million series at once..or something like that! I'm only speculating as an observer, not that I can read Logan's mind or her intentions, hehe.

It does sound like a good series, though! It's on my list but not at my library so it'll wait.

Ah! Ok, yes now I read the sentences again I see what you mean Teresa :)
Thanks for helping me out there!!

message 207: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 757 comments I finished Fool Moon yesterday.

I think this book is even better than the first part, we find out more about Harry's past, at least some new clues about the past of his parents surface, there is a romance (Susan), mistrust (Murphy) and new alliances (Tera and the Alphas), old enemies (Gentelman Johnny Marcone) and some new ones (various kinds of werewolves).
It is action-packed, although no normal human being would be able to survive all these events LOL.

I really liked characters' development, world building and the atmosphere of this installment. Can't wait to read the third part!

Excellent Anima!
The next book is even better :D

message 209: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 757 comments That is what I hear a lot about this series, it is getting better and better with every book, I will need six stars to rate it if this is true LOL.

Hahaha. I'm almost done with book 4 and loving it. The series has really picked up a notch in this one :)

message 211: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 757 comments I hope to get to the fourth book at the end of this month :)

message 212: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Teresa thanks for explaining for me! I think you can read my mind!! :)

Karen, sorry for the confusion. So many series, so little time, and I find myself jumping from one to another and feeling the pressure to catch up on all of them! I had started Fool Moon and then had to jump over to Halfway to the Grave, which I basically inhaled before I could get back to Harry.

I'm really liking the werewolf stuff. I love Bob's lecture to catch us all up - it's nice when authors can find ways to inform readers and characters at the same time without it feeling tedious. I can't wait to see how Harry avoids getting his face torn off.

message 213: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments I finished Fool Moon today.

I agree with Anima that this was more exciting than the first, but man poor Harry! I would have liked it better if he had one less beaten-to-a-pulp sequence. And fewer reminders that the women were naked. We get it! Do you have to mention it literally every time Harry notices them?

I did appreciate that Harry had to get to a very dark place in order to have his moment at the end. It was a powerful bit of self-reliance that I found quite touching.

message 214: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Nicole, Sonia and I are starting Death Masks (#5). :) Just a heads up!

message 215: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments I saw you guys were getting excited, but I thought we had organised there would be more notice of a start date since we were all meant to be waiting at book five for a buddy read.

I don't a copy of the book at home.

message 216: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Ahh, with everyone randomly at different places in the series and on their own reading schedules, this thread was set up so we could all discuss on our own schedules. Sorry about the confusion Nicole. We can make sure for the next one to plan better as to allow those at the same place to read concurrently, but as an informal series buddy read we didn't plan ahead. I had actually planned on reading books five and six this month at least, and maybe more X) since they count as chunksters after book two.

Which reminds me I need to add that you read summer knight to our chunksters list

message 217: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Ah, I see that the first post did indicate we were going to make it more formal. I'll talk to Sonia about making a separate thread for book five (unless we just want to keep discussing here)? And now I feel bad for sweet talking Sonia into squeezing Death Masks in before Kate Daniels 3! :(

You said One book a month. Then you did 2 books in October. And then you said 2 books a month. We already read 2 books in November and you now want to start book #6 this week.

You know I can't say no, don't you? Poor Nicole can't keep with us. Nor I can keep on maintaining new threads at this reading speed. So maybe we stick with this one for the whole series as we are doing?

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Karen wrote: "Pardon my ignorance, but how is Halfway to the Grave connected to Dresden? (another series for me to read?! ;) )"

Karen is the Night Huntress series. I read the first book. Thought it was quite good. And the ending left me wanting to know more. But, I'm like Teresa and can't read 5 books a day, so it still lays on my TBR soon list

message 220: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments My copy of Grave Peril seems to have fallen into the black hole of library holds. I've been in the same position for way longer than 3 weeks. Grrrr!

message 221: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Hehe. I'm just going to bide my time on these books now. Don't worry to much about me keeping up, Sonia. I'm not even going to attempt it. ;)

message 222: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments We can just use this one as a discussion thread for all of them like we have been. :)

I am too addicted to this series to only read one a month... sorry guys. Harper Connelly and Kate Daniels are already hard enough to only read one a month! X)

lol no probs Steven
We are all pretty good with marking spoilers so I don't think the timing is a problem :)

message 224: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Well, Steven made me start Blood Rites - yes, totally his fault - and I'm a little worried since I've heard this is the book that causes a non-stopping with the series.... Problem is... The 7% I've read so far are a really, really good start. Yep, I'm worried. :-)

message 225: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Finished Blood Rites (The Dresden Files, #6) by Jim Butcher OMG so good! So damn good! I love Jim Butcher's take on vampires and the way he uses curses. FENOMENAL!!!!

Now the problem is... which book I will grant the task to be considered meek after this one?

Or will I brake all my rules and jump right to book #7?

message 226: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I finished Blood Rites last night! It was really really good!!! New plot twists and surprises and such fun characters... Even the bad guys were entertaining!

message 227: by Sonia (last edited Nov 24, 2013 08:36AM) (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments hey Steven, shall we read Dead Beat (The Dresden Files, #7) by Jim Butcher next?

*wicked grin*

I mean soon. Like next monday soon :)

message 228: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie (darlingdoor) | 1733 comments Dead Beat is my favorite!!!

message 229: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Like tomorrow or Dec 2? I really need to read another Sookie, finish this Harper, and read at least one of my net galleys too!

message 230: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Oh alrigth... I read the blurb, that's all. It has (view spoiler)

message 231: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Can't see the spoilers on my Kindle :(

besides you have like 10 books to work on finishing.

message 232: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Fine!
But just because Nicole shared the Bitten trailer - one word, half-naked werewolves. I'm solo going to watch that show. Plus Elena looks well casted.

message 233: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments She does, doesn't she? And it looks like they're taking it from the short stories before Bitten :D

If you are up to reading Dime Store Magic in December, I'll totally read it with you!!

message 234: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments No more Elena? *sad face*

Sure, we can read it. Can it be after Kate? I need to go through bitten and stolen first - Dresden got a bit in the way :-)

message 235: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments It can definitely be after Kate. What would be a good date for you?

message 236: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments 14?

message 237: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I'll set up the thread during lunch hour.

message 238: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Fantastic! I'm gonna head to bed. Enjoy your lunch :)

message 239: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments I'm excited about reading Dead Beat this month. Not sure if I'll get to read #8 after that or not... busy month, what with the superlong Game of Thrones too! X)

Karen ⊰✿ | 16594 comments Mod
Geez I'm really behind then! I haven't even worked out when I will get to #5!
So I'm glad you're starting Game of Thrones ...maybe I will catch up lol

message 241: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Hah! Game of Thrones will slow you guys down if nothing else does ;)

message 242: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie (darlingdoor) | 1733 comments I'm hoping to use the Martin-induced slow down to full advantage as well. I'm only like 5 behind - I think I can make it!

message 243: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments I'm not reading GoT *grins*

But 1)I have a few unfinished books to tend and 2)I have to wait for Steven, he's my Dresden reading buddy :-)

message 244: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Heh, of course! Not to mention there's still Kate Daniels to consider. What date are we starting with her again this month?

message 245: by Sonia (new)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments On the 9th as usual. And you and me have WotO #3 later on the 14th.

message 246: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Field (nicolefield) | 1778 comments Yay!! Now I just need to find when Mistborn starts and I'll stand a chance of being on top of all my dates this month.

message 247: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 757 comments I still have book #3 to read, but I read GoT two years ago, so I can participate in the discussion and use some time to hurry with Dresden! Hopefully I will get to number 5 in January :)

message 248: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments I'm starting book 3 tonight!

message 249: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments GRAVE PERIL

Well I didn't get to devote a lot of time to this one until yesterday, but now I'm screaming through to the end. Just when I think Harry can't get into any more horrible situations, Lea shows up and (view spoiler)! Since this series goes on for many more books, I'm excited to see how he gets out of (view spoiler).

Like Karen, I was so confused when Michael is introduced without any indication this is our first meeting with him. While I appreciate Butcher's references to Dresden's world and acknowledges that he has a life there outside of the narratives we see in the books (makes the world feel SO much more vibrant!), it definitely can be jarring on the reader - or at least, on me. :)

message 250: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Yes, the introduction of Michael was strangely thrust upon us, like we were supposed to know who he was, etc.... but as jarring as that was, I've grown to love Michael and his family :)

But it sure was strange! I was all "Ummmm are we supposed to know who this guy is???"
