~ Pet Names Alphabet Reading Challenge A-Z ~

Something a little more challenging for you animal lovers out there! Let’s read those pets that appear in our books, both fiction and non-fiction. Some of the names you run across are pretty clever or funny.

Goal: From A - Z use different pet names for each letter of the alphabet. You may use the names of fictitious breeds, as long as they are pets of any character in the novel (it does not have to be a main character).

Lisa Kay has tried to do this as a personal challenge for the last two years and has NOT done it yet. So, she’s given you some extra options.

Hard to Find Letters and “Wild Cards”: Several letters* are hard to find: like “Q,” “U,” “V,” “X,” “Y,”and “Z”. Therefore, you may use these letters within the name.

Also, we will allow three “wild cards”** consisting of two types.

1) You may read a book that has an animal that is of a breed that has the letter you desire ( “V” - Golden Retriever. Shown for “V” in the example below.)

2) You may read a book with a title, author, or character that you have used (or would like to use) to name your pet. (Shown for “Q” in the example below.)

Usually we don't do that, Catherine; however, if you want a lower goal than 26, why not go for it? Totally up to you.

I think I'm going to be going with the 1 per story since I sometimes read the 4 books in one for kindle where they really are individual books they're just sold as a set. I could see doing it for a book of shortish stories too.

Side note: if you're trying to go real authentic, googling something like "named Xander" in the books search seems to come up with at least a few books that have pets with difficult to find letters.

I think I'd take the Jax... it's almost a game within itself to guess which name you should choose to make it easier on yourself later. I suppose you could record them all and decide later which one to use.
