We're the D'Artigo Sisters: Half-human, half-Faerie, we're savvy--and sexy--operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. But our mixed-blood heritage short-circuits our talents at all the wrong times. My sister Camille is a wicked-good witch whose magic is as unpredictable as the weather. My sister Delilah transforms into a tabby cat at the worst possible times. And me? I'm Menolly, acrobat-extraordinaire-turned-vampire. And if the nerds from hell don't get their act together, I'm going to turn their toga party into a bloodbath...

Life's getting stranger by the minute. First, Iris and I unearth a diary from one of the bartenders at the Wayfarer who disappeared under mysterious circumstances. And when I discover a ghoul in the woods near our home, we know there has to be a necromancer nearby--another sign that something's wrong. But the blood really hits the fang when we discover a secret society bent on winning Shadow Wing's favor. Now it's up to us to stop the chaos they've unleashed on the city, and to prevent the demon they summoned from devouring Delilah's soul...

Demon Mistress is a misleading title. It built in me an expectation of Menolly's character developing powers over Demons and subjugating them to her will. With Vanzir and Roz sniffing around her like dogs at a fireplug, perhaps the title suits. With the challenges she meets in fighting demons and tracking down the key players--nasty frathouse nerds delving into the occult and worse-- involved in a series of demonic related crimes, my original assumptions are met to a certain degree.

Every chapter has its scenes coupled with witty dialogue and meals. The setting changes, and it's "Ready. Set. Fight!" Showdowns in the street, the park, and the astral plane. Future events abound, winding around the plot to the ending. There is a wedding, coronation, and a dark summoning. New love with old friends is in the air. Old ties are put into question. And new possibilities for bedmates is on the horizon.

At any rate, this was a satisfying trip. Lots of action, Menolly cussing and kicking butt, new supporting characters--and neighbors-- along with frightening revelations and disturbing propositions, as well as the threat of a new demonic General courtesy of Shadow Wing. There are loads of laughs, like Delilah forgetting her litter box at a crucial time, odd-ball experts, bad dates, lost loves and friendships (good riddance Wade).

The art of successful polyandry, courtesy of the divine Camille and her husbands, is a thrill. I love Camille and her dragon hubby, Smoky! Yowza! And darling Morio, as well, who revealed a bad ass side that was perfect at a crucial moment when his lady wife was being disrespected.

This installment was fun and intense. I better make plans to jump into Bone Magic which stars my favorite D'Artigo sister, Camille and her men. It's going to be steamy, action-filled and buzzing with laughs and sorcery.

Warnings: Gore, dark images of death and disgusting beings, mild triggers (references to date rape, domestic abuse, and misogynist behavior), FF scenes, strong language from the foul-mouthed Menolly.

Very good book. Like to see how everyone is progressing in their relationships. Glad that Trillian was able to contact Camille and tell her he was okay. Hope Mellony will have a long happy life with Nerissa.

Can't wait to read Bone Magic!!!

Trillian Camille'in diğer eşleriyle nasıl anlaşacak çok merak ediyorum doğrusu :D

Still bad! Maybe not AS bad. But still bad. I wish I didn't want to know if they defeat Shadow Wing in the end! Maybe I should skip to the last book?

Mhm, was soll ich sagen?

Don't ask me why I keep reading these. They are kind of a filler when I am out of 1st reads and can't find any thing else to get. But that is one stupid reason to spend money on something! Ah, well.

I really like the premise of the stories. I don't care for the delivery that well. I guess I would have to say that I do want to see what happens...if only I didn't have to read the "Whaaa????" (all those annoying pieces and inconsistencies that just boggles the mind) to get to the 'what happens'.

Love this series. It is so compelling and the variety of characters involved is fun. I like the sisters and now their complicated social lives intermixed with the challenges of their duties makes this an exciting series to read. Each installment offers plenty and doesn't feel like a rehashing of the previous work. good reading.

Let’s see, she’s a vampire surrounded by magic and her family and friends has a serious baddie gunning their way. She sees clues and situations that doesn’t add up and she repeatedly put it in a too-idiotic-to-be-real or too-far-fetch-to-be-true category.
Sheesh...

I first read this book December 4-5, 2013.
I reread it January 26-28, 2017.

The below review is adapted/updated from the review I wrote after my first reading of this book.

I really enjoyed this story! It was delightfully creepy. :-)

In this one, the sisters were fighting a Karsetii demon and the humans who summoned her. The humans were dumb but strong. . . and thankfully they got the ending they deserved for working such evil.

The Karsetii was very creepy (imagine a giant squid, inky black), which is what made this story so delightful. :-)

And Wade is an ass. I was surprised, as I thought better of him. But then again, his behavior in the beginning left Menolly free to be with Roz (hot!!!) later, and potentially Vanzir in a future book. If I have to wait for book nine to find out if Menolly and Vanzir hook up, I'll be slightly disgruntled, but only slightly since I know I'll love reading books seven and eight along the way. :-)

Along with the Karsetii demon, we were introduced to ghouls and necromancers. We also met a giant, though only over the phone. Still, though. . .fun!

In addition to battling the Karsetii demon, the sisters solved two missing persons cases (one an Elf long presumed off on an adventure, the other a vampire recently gone missing), and they stumbled across the fifth spirit seal!

The seal So in the end, it was good that ;-)

But after all of that, there was still more to happen! First, And then in the final chapter, Chapter 29, on the night of the Summer Solstice,

And then we had the final two paragraphs in this book:

:-)

So this was a fun story, delightfully creepy, but I decided to reduce my rating from five to four "very good; I really enjoyed it" stars because this feels like a better rating for how I feel about this book. I do really love this series as a whole, though. If we could rate series, I'd give it the full five stars for being amazing and outstanding. :-)

Review:
With Demon Mistress, we are back to Menolly, and once again we're shown that she is kind of an afterthought on the part of the author. Menolly just doesn't have anything of her own to stand out with. Other than being broken, and that is being worked on. She is on the periphery of everything. She is left out of a lot of things. She just doesn't have a place in this series yet, and is kind of unwanted by anything.

In fact, the book opens up with her Vampire (mostly not really) boyfriend telling her that he can't be seen with her anymore. Which double proves this.

So, Menolly finds something to keep her busy. She finds that her predecessor's predecessor disappeared, and no one knows what happened to her. And there is a vampire murder she has been tasked to solve. And round and round the book goes until the end as Menolly hops from place to place and investigation to investigation.

Only to find out that somehow, despite this disappearance happening years ago, it is relevant to the Shadow Wing front. It all comes together in the end! Everything is just fine, everybody. No wasted book, no wasted character here, right?? Yeah. The coincidence in this series is off the charts.

Demon Mistress is also about Menolly's continued healing from the events in her pasts. Because that is what defines her as a character. And the author hasn't figured out anything else to do with her yet. Another pretty mediocre installment.

This series is one of my favourites. You know the ones that feel like you're catching up with old friends every time you open the latest book in the series? The type that although you're absolutely itching to read, you try to put it off as long as you can because you don't want it to be over? Yeah, this series is like that for me. :)

I also love that the books are told in the POV of each sister. This one's the sixth book and happens to be narrated by Menolly. She's a vampire, and a very complex character. When you read the books from the POV of her sisters, you always get the sense of mystery and even a little detachment from her because she's so hard to read. But she's nothing like that. Menolly's one tough cookie - just like her awesome sisters - but she's also as devoted and vulnerable as them too. I just love getting into her head. She's ultra cool.

Each book adds to the cast and the story, and builds up into a world where darkness seems to be trying damn hard to engulf them. They find themselves in one bad situation after another, and have very complicated relationships with those around them. I love the supporting cast, too. They're all so very tough and cool.

The next one comes out next month. Can't wait! But the bottom line is... you should be reading this series. It's amazing, and only gets better. And what about those covers? Like I said, awesome. ;)

Menolly for this one! After finding a diary at the Wayfarer, and finding out it belonged to a previous bartender who disappeared, Menolly decides to investigate further. What she discovers is a secret society who is trying to win Shadow Wing's favor so they will be spared when he returns to Earth.

Sixth in the Otherworld / Sisters of the Moon urban fantasy series revolving around the three D'Artigo sisters currently living Earthside in Seattle. The perspective is from Mennolly this time around with Roz and Vanzir pushing their own agendas with her.

My Take
It's hard to say whether this series is urban fantasy or paranormal romance. The focus changes with each story. One book might be primarily from Mennolly's perspective while the next might be from Camille's or Delilah's.

It certainly is a family affair in this series. The three sisters keep taking beings into their family circle with only some prejudice. Lots of action, as usual, both on the battlefield fighting a squid-like demon, a nasty group of evil humans, and ghouls as well as action...well, not necessarily in a bed.

I'm kinda missing why Mennolly would bother shaking out a rug if she's doing it inside the house??? I could understand her being thoughtless after she got all the bad news dumped on her. The girls are getting a tiny bit quicker on the uptake. Previous stories have found them ignoring obvious clues; this time, it doesn't take as long for them to make the connection. Thank god.

Galenorn does a nice job of starting this off and pulling it all together. I also like the warm, homey atmosphere she creates. I don't know if I'm simply getting used to Galenorn or if her writing really is getting better! We do learn about Sassy's loss of her daughter. And Morgaine makes the girls an interesting offer that just has to have too many strings hiding behind it.

Oh, what are they waiting for?? Why didn't they just storm the house and hit the chanting idjits?? I don't understand why they just had to wait, other than it was too soon to end the story. They certainly aren't in much of a hurry as there is a lot of "in the morning"s being said.

Oh, brother, that article in the Seattle Tattler was just nasty. Talk about needing to boost their own self-esteem!

The Story
It's an innocuous opening with the girls and their friends cleaning out the upper floors of the Wayfarer. There's no point in letting the space go to waste and, with all the special projects the girls have going on, they could use the money. But the tidy up leads to a mystery about a missing elf and the inquiring minds want to know.

A good thing since it leads them down a path they might not otherwise have taken for someone is summoning demons and the events surrounding Sabele's disappearance provide an important clue.

The Characters
The D'Artigo sisters are half-human, half-fae. Menolly is a brash, undiplomatic vampire who took over ownership of the Wayfarer Bar & Grill and is involved with Nerissa Shale, a werepuma belonging to the Rainier Puma Pride. Nerissa is being forced to run for office and won't have as much time for Mennolly. They have an agreement about their sleeping arrangements.

Camille is a magically-challenged witch dedicated to the Moon Mother who owns the Indigo Crescent bookstore — she's not there often enough to run it anymore, and she's married to Smoky, the very possessive dragon, and Morio, a kitsune who is teaching Camille death magic. Once a month, she must run with the Hunt.

Delilah is a werekitty/panther/Death Maiden who has bonded with her silver sword Lysanthra. She has her own private detective agency and it seems she also has a dead twin, Arial, who died at birth (Arial's were shape is that of a leopard). Chase Johnson is an FBH, a full-blooded human, who created the Faerie-Human Crime Scene Investigations team, the fae version of CSI — and is also the chief of detectives. He's been seeing Delilah but screwed up pretty bad in Night Huntress , 5.

Iris Kuusi is a Finnish house sprite who keeps house for the girls and works at the bookstore. She's in a bad tangle with Bruce O'Shea, a leprechaun. Maggie is a baby gargoyle the girls are raising, and it's time for Maggie to learn to eat meat...oh, boy. Vanzir is a demon who steals energy via beings' dreams. He came over to the girls' side, desperate to get away from a really nasty Rakshasa demon. Rozurial is a mercenary incubus who simply loves all women no matter their looks or their age.

Their Sidhe father, Lord Sephreh ob Tanu, rebelled against the drug addict queen and his side won the war. Now he's a senior adviser to the new queen, Tanaquar. His fae assistant is Yssak ob Shishana whom they manage to offend quite deeply. Asteria is the Elfin Queen to who is keeping the Seals safe as the girls find them. She's been a good ally and friend to the girls.

With the war at an end, there are more Supernaturals available to come Earthside and help in the demon war. Yugi, a Swedish empath, has been promoted to Chase's second-in-command. Sharah is Asteria's niece but works on the FH-CSI with Mallen. Shamas, the girls' fae cousin, has been working for the Earthside police.

The Triple Threat are the three faerie queens: Titania of the Seelie Court, Morgaine will rule the Dusk while Aeval will rebuild the Unseelie Court. They are setting up their domains on Earthside and planning their coronations. Sabele Olahava was the operative who ran the Wayfarer before Jocko. Harish is her miserable fiancé.

Shadow Wing is a powerful demon overlord who plans to use the Seals to open the Gates of Hel and overrun both Earthside and OtherWorld. Harold Young was stalking Sabele back then. Now he's leading Dante's Hellions which include a wide range of beings.

Erin Mathews is being taught how to cope as a vampire by Sassy Branson, a wealthy socialite-vampire; Sassy's housekeeper, Janet, is dying of cancer. The Guardian Watchdogs and Freedom's Angels are vigilante groups who are anti-supernaturals. They believe in the "earth-born" and everyone else is a threat. Otherworld (OW) is the land of all the fae.

Tim Winthrop, a.k.a., Cleo Blanco, is a drag queen and computer geek who is working with the Supernatural committee. He and Jason Binds are getting married! Wade Stevens started up and leads Vampires Anonymous, a support group for the newly undead, where he and Mennolly met. He has, however, succumbed to politician-itis. Terrance is the owner of Fangtabula and Wade's opponent in this campaign. Lucas is the current bartender at Wayfarer; he's also a werewolf. Chrysandra is their best waitress, and Tahvah is the vampire gatekeeper for the portal at the Wayfarer — she's not at all picky about what she eats. The Clockwork Club is the opposite of Fangtabula — it's upscale and you have to have enough money AND an invitation to get inside the door.

Some new characters have been introduced whom I suspect will show up in future stories. Wilbur is a new neighbor and a powerful necromancer with a pet ghoul, Martin, who keeps escaping. He's a bit of a jerk considering his pet keeps getting away from him, but I think he'll mellow out. Roman is a powerfully scary vampire no one wants to cross. Carter is an even scarier demon equivalent who seems content to pursue his research. He has an adopted "daughter", Kim.

The Cover and Title
The cover is another stone background — a pretty blue-green with a huge stone circle(?), seal(?), engraved into the wall behind Mennolly. This time she's facing straight out at us, one jean-clad knee to the floor and the other at a 90-degree angle, her hands resting on thigh and knee — you can just see that she's wearing a pair of her stiletto-heeled boots! Her golden-red hair is in a multitude of braids and she's wearing an interesting peach top — it's a low scoop neckline with a u-shaped cutout that showcases her cleavage as well as her black bra. I do love the light turquoise leather jacket she's wearing!

The title should probably be plural as Mennolly is interested in both Roz and Vanzir — she's their Demon Mistress.

An excellent one!

Im didn't write a review for the one before last, I didn't know how I felt about that one, it was a great story as usual but some of tyne books where Camille narrates includes what I think is an overabundance of sex, which is not bad but sometimes Yasmine goes into an abundance of detail, I'm personally more about the action and the overall story I'm a former SF operator I know what it's like to use sex in that nature, I like it when a lot of it is left to the imagination. I do lid how she describes it sometimes. That does not detract from my overall love of this series, it is absolutely amazing the way she combines all the creatures and races of lore! I wish we'd see some Druids and these Keraster Knights, I love when knights that are pledged to honor are involved. I'm starting the next one now, see too on the next review...Rob

Yep still having to skip from chap one to chap 27 etc. ,don't understand the need to portray ur main characters as 2 bit porno hoes. Its taking away from. The big storyline for me. As if being hookaISH is something to brag about. As if thats all we women r made for. I want to see how the end turns out with the war and portals but can't stand to hear Abt a buncho free hoe's. It's like beotch at least get ,paid for all ur services ur , giving away to everyone . Geesh. Then got these men hanging out, waiting to get their dic sucD again, for free. Anyway showing them to be so indecisive, with slut tendencies, is like the typical stereotype women face out there. Smh. Pretty disgusting behavior, my opinion.

Meh. This one required lots of pretending I didn't see the things that were contradictions or were just too silly to be believable. I don't really think starting at book 6 was the problem, because it was really simple to pick up on everybody's relationships to everyone else. It seemed like too many where they are now updates were getting in the way, and the book's individual plot was taking second or third place to everything else. (Wouldn't be the first series that fell into that trap in later books!)

For a random pick at the used store, it could have been worse, but once was enough, so it'll get re-passed around for someone else to take a chance on now.

This is the fifth installment and I have to admit this series is losing a bit of its appeal. While still a light, easy, fun read the stories are getting a bit bland. Also, being the fifth installment I really don’t need a complete history on all the major players, again. Way too much time was spent on the back history of the characters, if you don’t know who the main characters are at this point maybe you should start over.

I love this series, I never got this far when I started reading it years ago. I'm glad Menolly went with her instincts when she got with Roz. I loved the story about Dante's Hellions and glad it ended the way it did. Menolly is definitely a vampire with a conscience and a heart. I really like her!

Hope the next book is better. This series has taken a downturn into subjects I’m not a fan off. A little too much 😸 and too much horrible 🤮. You will figure those out if you read it. I don’t want to write the word in case it’s censored.
