Kathryn | 3569 comments It sounds interesting, Sharon. Hope you enjoy.

I've just started Me Before You by Jojo Moyes which was recommended by Amber as a top 5 read last year so I'm hoping it will be good. I think it will be - even having just started, I have a good feeling about it!

Sharon | 5472 comments Thanks Kathryn. I've read Me Before You and really enjoyed it. Look forward to seeing your final thoughts.

Yes, it seems that if there's a link in to last bit of the post to copy, then whatever I post becomes part of the link, weird.
My fave was The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox but I have enjoyed all of Maggie O'Farrell's books

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I've just started Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain; selected after reading Sharon's review.

Eugenics itself as not a new concept to me but even now, the topic makes me so damn angry! I detest situations where people are deprived of their liberty and reproduction is a liberty.

This is why I read; to think!!!

Angela | 351 comments A passionate reader is the best kind Bette :)

I am reading The Brush Off by Shane Maloney- a very funny crime novel by a local Melbourne author.

There was a TV series starring David Wenham and Sam Neil based on that I think.

I just finished The Midnight Mayor which is the second in Kate Griffin's Matthew Swift series. If you like urban fantasy then give this series a try. It is really good - very much in the vein of the Dresden Files but set in London.

For another group read just started Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan. I can already visualise this bookstore just what I imagined as a kid - I always dreamt of having a floor to ceiling personal library - ladders and all!

message 7580: by Diane (new)

Diane | 14 comments I have just started "Madame Midas" by Fergus
Hume, author of "Mystery of the Hansom Cab". It
is set in the minefields of Ballarat and the
bright lights of Melbourne circa 1880. In the
typical Victorian fiction tradition there are
murders, missing men, several villains and a
beautiful, innocent girl.

message 7581: by Angela (new)

Angela | 351 comments I've just started Brideshead Revisited - liking it already :)

message 7583: by Keyvan (new)

Keyvan Allahyari | 6 comments finished reading THE SLAP by Christos Tsiolkas. I am relieved that I won't have to deal with eight characters that are all about child abuse, misogyny, racism and adultery. Recipe for nightmare! One could characterize the novel as almost pornographic but, to be fair, I think Tsiolkas has a point. My review can be seen at https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

I sat up late last night to finish Middlesex. I enjoyed it with a few reservations especially the fact that it needed to be LONGER! I wanted a lot more information about Cal's later life.

My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

p.s. Does anyone know why Cal's brother was called Chapter Eleven. Did I miss something there?
UPDATE: I googled it and found the answer. If you want to know then google "Why is the brother called Chapter Eleven?" and Jeffrey Eugenides will tell you!
