Have you read The Body in The Clouds? That was really good too. I read it about the same time as Kate Grenville's The Lieutenant which was on the same subject, sort of.

Alik I loved it Marianne. Much more so than The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry and The 100 Year old man Who Climbed Out the Window. The main character had more zest, heart and wit than those in the other two novels. Thanks for the recommendation!

I've finished Cross Country by James Patterson. I usually enjoy his books but this one was a little weak.

Now I am starting The Pool of Two Moons, the second in Kate Forsyth's series about the Witches of Eileanan.

And it was apparently one of the ones he wrote himself because there was no other author's name on the cover. Never mind - when you write as much good stuff as he does the occasional slip up is okay!!!

hmmm, well he USED to be good, but I am finding more and more that I am exasperated with what he is writing. Or maybe it's the people who actually write the books under his direction.... Anyway, I have decided that, once I finish the last extraneous one I have (Mistress) I am limiting my Patterson reads to Cross, Women's Murder Club and Michael Bennett. Then I will have less occasions when I want to throw the book at the wall. Did you read Zoo and Toys, the last few Maximum Ride books, NYPD Red? Quite poor efforts, IMHO

I probably haven't read as many as you so the tedium factor hasn't set in yet. I know my husband who has read lots of them recently threw one on the floor in disgust and said he would not be reading any more. Although that's what I said about Patricia Cornwell and I am still torturing myself!

It's interesting what you're all saying about James Patterson - I have found I dislike his Private series a lot! The worst part is I bought them (except for the last one)...I have really enjoyed Cross, Women's Murder club, and Michael Bennett too...but even though I own Zoo I haven't read it yet.

I was astounded by the quality of the ARC I just read, First Love - it was almost as though it wasn't written by him!

I enjoyed Zoo too although I made a comment about the dolphin section being overly silly! From what I have gathered when he writes with another author like in First Love the idea is his but the writing is the other person's. Would this be correct?

Yes, same with Patricia Cornwell's books, very good at first but lately padded with much too much unnecessary stuff. If I hadn't bought The Bone Bed for $2, I wouldn't have bothered at all. And as it was, I begrudged the precious time I spent on it. Dust? If I happen across it for $2, maybe I will buy it & read it....

That's what I heard too Marianne - I bought it (it's the last of that series I bought) but haven't read it yet. I heard he didn't bother with any research into Oz-speak at all, with sidewalk instead of footpath etc...shame! It certainly wouldn't be hard to research correctly - a lot of writers do!

The first time I met him was when he came to do a signing at my work for Scarecrow and the Army of Thieves - I found out later that his wife waited until he was on that tour to commit suicide. So shocking for everyone, but he was just devastated, understandably. Poor guy, it's great that he's been able to move forward now though.. I'll watch it later, thanks:)

Suzanne (suzannesbookshelf) I've just finished reading "Brothers & Sisters" edited by Charlotte Wood. It's a book of short stories written by Australian Authors. I would recommend it for those who like analyzing relationships or have an interest in the subject. Subject matter is quite tender in this book and it has quite a few brothers, not just a sister subject in this book which I found refreshing and very interesting to read in a book.

Easy to pick up and put down and well written. I think there was only one story I could not get into at all. Pretty good when this was the only one out of the whole book in total.

Another book for the Australian bookshelf in the club.

Suzanne (suzannesbookshelf) I don't get long spells to read unfortunately so I found it really great to be able to pick up and put down and still have something with a meatier subject, not just chick lit which I don't find my type of books...

I remember when I saw it on facebook last year or whenever it was, blew me away. She was so young :/
