What Are You Currently Reading? (doesn't have to be an Aussie book)

Now reading Dead Man's Footsteps by Peter James. It has me hooked -- would love to spend the day reading it, but alas it will have to wait.

Sharon, that's such a huge compliment. Sorry about the tiredness, though. :)

Haha I'll forgive you Vicki :) I'll remember not to start your next one before I go to bed ;)

I like Gillian Flynn's writing so I'm hoping it's a gripping one :)

Without our great authors, we wouldn't have books to read! So it's not hard to support you all:)

Kathryn, in case you're interested, and just off the top of my head, here is the spelling of some of the names in Burial Rites ... Agnes's full name is Agnes Magnusdottir (with an acute accent over the U and the O - I don't know how to do accents on here!). The District Commissioner who sentenced Agnes and sent her to the farm for safe-keeping is Bjorn Blondal (with the 'two dots' accent - I forget the proper term for that - over the Os in both names). The farmer is Jon (acute accent over the O), his wife is Margret (acute over the E), the short name of their eldest daughter is Steina, younger daughter is Lauga. The maid at the farm is Kristin (acute over the second I) and one of the farmhands is Gudmundur. The young reverend's first name is Thorvardur, Toti (acute over the O) for short. The farm is Kornsa (acute over the A) and the valley is Vatnsdalur. The place where the murder occurred is Illugastadir. The place where Agnes was held before Kornsa is Stora-Borg (acute over the O). The farm where she was allegedly born is Flaga but the one where she was really born is Brekkukot. One of the murdered men is Natan Ketilsson. The first name of the alleged murderer is Fridrik and the other female alleged murderer is called Sigga for short. And those are the only ones I can remember! Hope it helps.
Marianne, good idea about the favourites shelf! I have about 60 books on my 'favorites' shelf, so it would be a bit of a chore, but I bet I'll cave in and just do it one day, LOL!

Thank you, Sally! That's awesome! I had no idea about the farmer - the "J" is said as a "Y", which is what I expected, but it's said "Yo-en", so I wasn't sure if it was Joen, Joan, Johann (with accents or "O's" with strokes through them anywhere or everywhere!), Margaret I expected would be Margarethe, and the maid I thought was Christa. The daughters, I envisaged being spelt Steiner and Lorga and I didn't have any idea about the young minister's full name! I can't recall hearing the farm's name so far (but I probably have - you do miss somethings with audiobooks) and I hadn't realised that Natan was a variant of Nathan!! It's said "Na-tarn".
Thanks again - now I can put spellings to names!

The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan

It started with We Are Water where the main female character Annie, is about to marry another woman.
So the next book I selected had gay male characters Tell the Wolves I'm Home.
Several times in that book they mention the movie A Room with a View (which I didn't like much) and 'Room' starts with Lucy Honeychurch on holiday in Italy with her aunt...so I went through my collection of books and discovered The Lost Girls of Rome which as you can probably guess by it's title - is set in Italy!
Only just started The Lost Girls Girls of Rome, but it's interesting so far and had some good reviews. Will have to see what it leads me to next.
It's a bit of silly fun but making me pick books out to read next that I otherwise may not have.

Not at all, I think it's an excellent idea, Patricia. thumbs up here from me:)

Thank you, too, Kathryn, now I can put some pronunciations to the written names!

I was just looking back over my post, Sally - although I thought Steina's name would be Steiner, it's said Stainer!
I haven't had the chance to listen to anymore this week and I'm missing it! I probably won't get a chance til Sat unless I do some crocheting tomorrow night :-/
I've just finished Swipe by Kathy Reichs A very enjoyable short story:)

I read Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler when I did a WWII History unit at Uni. It certainly gave insight into Hitler's mind and while it is not a pleasant read and quite scary to understand that this is how this man thought it should not be ignored or avoided as it has a role in human history.

Have just finished The Goldfinch and am struggling to find one redeeming feature from it. On the other hand The Luminaries I thought was an excellent book.
My review of The Goldfinch and sorry to everyone who loved it. It just was not my cup of tea!

After this, I've logged Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain as my next read.
Followed by The Dud Avocado

I am reading The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger with someone in another group. It's an amazing book so far - my mind boggles trying to work out how or why things are happening and I can not understand how the author can come up with something like this! I hope the ending lives up to the rest of the book!
I'm also reading It Takes A Village by Aussie author Christine Stinson and it's an interesting read as well. Sad, at times - people can be so cruel, but then other people can be very generous-hearted. It's an easy read and I'm looking forward to finding out more about Sophie as she grows.

I just realised when I was listening again yesterday, the younger daughter's name is actually said Loyga, and I do remember hearing the farm name now - it sounded like it was spelt Konzo to me, but I can see that Kornsa would work better!

Your post is all messed up!:) I know about Aoife, I'm Irish descent, lots of 'weird' spellings in my family, lol. I am enjoying Instructions for... ; but for me, The Hand That First Held Mine is my fav of her stuff.

After this, I've logged Necessary Lies
I really enjoyed Instructions for a Heatwave, Bette, so give it a chance. BTW, you pronounce Aoife as EEFA, if you're wondering.... I always need to know how to say it in my head!

I am reading The Time Traveler's Wife
The Time Traveler's Wife is one of my alltime favourites!

The funniest thing in the movie was how they coped with the fact that he was always naked when he arrived. Actually seeing a naked man all curled up to hide his bits rather took away from the drama and the romance. In the book of course your own imagination dealt with it however you wanted!

Well, I liked the movie too. Of course it wasn't the book, but no movie ever is.
