Crank, Speak, and What Happened to Cass McBride are such good books and also my favorites :]

message 3: by Jessi (new)

Jessi Rose Speak, Cut, and Thirteen Reasons Why are wonderful books! You can read them again and again without getting tires of them!

message 4: by Mandy (new)

Mandy ... All YA books deal with "real" problems. As a matter of fact, books about siblings, school, dating, divorce, ect. happen a lot more in life then a books about addicts, suicide, and eating disorders.

Don't get me wrong, I get what you mean by "real problems", but I think it should be worded differently. \

message 5: by Nataytay (new)

Nataytay For best Teen books about REAL problems I DEFINITELY think that "Speak" should be at the top of the list. Some books shouldn't be on the list though, even as an option, like the "Uglies" series and books like that since those are impossible to happen in the present.

message 6: by Guistinna (new)

Guistinna DUDE, I STARTED TO READ THIRTEEN REASONS WHY AND I STARTED TO GET KINDA WEIRDED OUT, SO I STOPPED.

SPEAK WAS MADE INTO A MOVIE, IT WAS PRETTY GOOD.

I know. That shouldnt be on there. Thats fantasy. Not likely to happen...

message 20: by Mina^_^ (new)

Mina^_^ Because I Am Furniture & Wintergirls broke my heart i tried super duper hard not to cry but i did anyway cuz it shows u that some of the problems we complain about sometimes are practically nonexistent compared to some of the problems in most of these books....think about it but these are some good books BTW :D

message 21: by Henryetta (new)

Henryetta In Beastly, a self-centered boy is turned into a monster by a witch. This is a real problem amoung teens today--NOT! Who are the 21 people who voted for this book? Oh, I know! 21 people who were turned into idiots by witches!

Orli and gossip girl is on here why? i read the entire series and theyre all totally superficial problems

love speak, 13 reasons why & the outsiders though

Juliet the Book Slayer Why is "Gossip Girl" on here? :P All superficial problems. Oh, and read "Freaky Green Eyes" by Joyce Carol Oates.. Its absolutely amazing.

message 27: by Louise (new)

Louise Alice in Time is a great book about divorce bullying and mistakes.

message 28: by Henryetta (new)

Henryetta After giving "Beastly" some thought, I do see a connection to teens today. There is so much emphsis on good looks, clothes, and popularity amoung teens. This book address that problem. The results is pure fantasy, but perhaps the emphsis on "outward appearance" was the connection that the voters saw. I was too fast to judge. By the way, "Beastly" has been made into a movie that will be released in March 2011. You can bring up the trailer on the internet.

It's on there because the Uglies series may be Scifi, but it still deals with one of the most problem among teens nowadays, the overall worry about physical appearance. This then can be related to how many teens have such horrible self-esteem which leads to big problems.

message 30: by Ally (new)

Ally Hold Still by Nina LaCour, It's a must read.

message 36: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn Go Ask Alice? Have you even READ that book? It is a pile of crock! There is nothing in it that is accurate or discusses real teen problems, including the fact that the entire thing is a *lie*.

message 37: by Shainia (new)

Shainia Carrillo Henryetta wrote: "In Beastly, a self-centered boy is turned into a monster by a witch. This is a real problem amoung teens today--NOT! Who are the 21 people who voted for this book? Oh, I know! 21 people who were ..."

It's about a real problem symbolically because It's about a boy finding out life isn't about being beautiful on the outside but what's inside is what counts. :) And if you find a person who loves not just for your looks, but your personality, they are the one.

message 38: by Danielle (new)

message 44: by Meaghan (new)

Meaghan Meaghan wrote: "My favorites are Speak, Cut, Uglies, and Specials"

lol that is a lil odd to be on there....

message 45: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte LOL I love how Uglies is #12 and it's a sci-fi book. And After by Amy Efaw, cuz all teenagers throw their babies in the dumpster. . . Along with others. *slaps-forehead*

message 46: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Charlotte wrote: ".... After by Amy Efaw, cuz all teenagers throw their babies in the dumpster. . . Along with others. *slaps-forehead*"

I guess it depends on how you define "real"- "real" as in "extremely difficult/serious" or "real" as in "common". Efaw's book definitely falls into the former, not the latter :)

That's true. :) The sci-fi books on here are pretty funny though. Although then again, they're all dealing with personal problems within the books so I can see why. .

message 48: by Anna (new)

Anna Speak has been made into a movie and it's rated PG-13. I read this whole book within a couple days. It was great except for the creep and the brief rape part.

message 49: by Kelsey (new)

Uglies did deal with the presssure to accept yourself and not give in to society's pressure blindly without questioning it.

message 50: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey Sarah wrote: ""Return of the Skeleton Man"? Seriously? Am I the only teenager who doesn't have problems with strange old skeleton creatures chasing me and kidnapping my parents?"

What are you talking about? That happens to me all the time! ;)
