Thanks for visiting my page. A few words of explanation about how I use Goodreads:

I accept friends here, and I also respond to "Ask the Author" questions.

I find it difficult to rate books with stars, or to review friends' books. I do have a few shelves of books here on Goodreads, listing some books you might enjoy: one shelf for poetry, one for contemporary realistic YA books, etc.

I've always liked short stories for their compactness, for their power. Writing short stories teaches you how to begin a story and develop a plot--there is no room to waste; you have to dive right into it and unfurl the conflict right away. (less)

Expect the unexpected

In the oral history We Killed: The Rise of Women in American Comedy (Yael Kohen), Anjelah Johnson (now Anjelah Johnson-Reyes) describes how the year 2007 went for her. She'd gotten onto a TV show that was canceled; she had no money. And then a video of one of her jokes went viral, and she got a new manager, a new agent, and a role on a TV show. Eventually she was laid off from that show, but she

Maggie You're welcome. Thank YOU for writing it!! I finished it yesterday in one gulp. I'm gonna reread it today. Can I just say that almost everything that the characters were going through resonated with me? I've been having weird relationship issues too and this book helped put a lot of things in perspective, especially in the end. It's really an awesome book. I cried and laughed and I didn't want it to end. I can't wait to read whatever you write next :)

Thank you, Maggie!

Maggie It's raining in California right now and I'm curled up on my couch with a cup of tea and The Secret Year. It's amazing! I can't put it down. I love Julia and Colt's mom -- they're so funny and REAL! The dialogue is so right on, and Colt's voice is actually believable. I've read some YAs narrated by a male protagonist and they didn't always sound like teenage boys, but Colt really does. I just wanted to tell you that :)
