I have a semi-funny story about Marnie. We were double dating with one of our friends and at the time his much younger girlfriend whose name is Marnie. I asked if she was named after the movie and she said yes but she'd never watched it. I started laughing and told her to watch it and then ask what in the hell her mom was thinking naming her after someone who is a crazy, kleptomaniac, etc. and then went on describing some of Marnie's other wonderful attributes. She didn't think this was funny at all so of course it took me awhile to stop laughing.
I've seen the movie, "Marnie," but now I'm curious about the book. I am continually amazed by what people choose to name their children. For example, there are plenty of Baptist "Brandy"s and "Sherry"s out there. Why would you name your child after an alcoholic beverage when your denomination doesn't believe in drinking alcohol? And that's just one example . . .
"Lisa" shot up to the top of the girl's name charts in the 60s; the first "soap opera vixen" was named Lisa. Obviously a lot of mothers were watching As the World Turns!
