I've read the whole seriese and im im 8th grade, the only book i regret reading was Breaking dawn, because it has non graphic sexual content, not something i need to read

I always told my students (as a Media Specialist) if something is offensive to you --turn the book back in and try something else. It's called Intellectual Freedom. And I was and still am full of suggestions--and I warn of things that might be "too old" for reader. But it;s their choice.

yeah, I've run into that a lot especially when i pull a book off the shelf at random, I read the back and find out about the author before i check it out, (don't encourage V.C. Andrew's books, there not in the middle school "range"

I think Twilight is perfectly fine for middle schoolers, and even New Moon. Now, I would wait a little longer than middle school to read Eclipse or especially Breaking Dawn, but TWILIGHT? Twilight has a few kisses, nothing else.

Umm... 6-10 year olds? 6 year olds are still just learning to write in cursive... I don't think that any six year old is ready for that. Even ten year olds, that's just too much. aren't you ten in FOURTH grade? that's not even out of elementary school, thats when they are still guided around by parents and teachers all day. sorry Chrissy, but where did you get the idea that Twilight is for 6-10 year olds when mothers all over th country are not letting their teens read it because of it's "mature content"?

About Twilight? Uhmm... no. I would like to read something other than a girl in love with a vampire. The first book is good enough, but the rest of the series goes on and on about how awesome is to be with a vampire. Read them all, so I talk as a former Twilighter. Edward Cullen doesn't really exist and thank God for that!

I'm all for intellectual freedom for readers but as far as the Twilight series goes I'm not sure I would let my middle-schooler read those. There's not enough in the context advocating a woman's independence when in a tough situation. Not to mention some of the graphic content.

I would never recommend twilight to my younger sister...
I would like her to read Holes, though. And also HP, PJO series, Bridge to Terabithia and many more. I want her to learn and discover a whole new world of fantasies and excitement, just like me....I want her to be a reader...(*smile*)

Somehow I find this comment the most amusing thing I've read all day... Society is getting more and more unfazed by things every day. I guess the next time I see a toddler in walmart beating/chewing the snot out of it's mother, I'll just wave it off as "Oh, the lucky duck was exposed to Twilight. It's just practicing it's hunting, whining, and fist fighting skills that it learned after it read a 150,000 word book."

BTW folks, I think Chrissy was being as sarcastic as I was being.

When I was in middle school, we read Hardy Boys and Island of the Blue Dolphins. We left the fuzzy/meaningless relationship junk for all of those obnoxious junior high students.

I think everyone here is too focused on Twilight anyway. You either like or you don't. If you like it great, read it and re-read it to your hearts content. If you don't like it then great, don't read it and move on.

If we really want to nit pick about one book on a list of 100, then some people have way too much free time on their hands... time that could be better spent reading.

Just because someone likes something doesn't mean we have to attack those who dont agree with us. That seems a little narrow-minded.

Books are all about exploring and they come in a wide range. We shouldn't encourage our kids to read a specific book about this or that, but rather we should encourage our kids to read period.

Must-reads, to me, are stories one must read for enlightening, expansion of the mind, and/or educational purposes. In this sense, "Switch", by Karen Price, is not exactly a must-read, but it surely is an enchanting story and fun to read. -- I haven't finished reading it yet as I presently must read books about publishing, digital marketing, and Third Reich history, which are less fun to read. As soon as I feel I should reward myself for duty-reading with a fun-read, I'll surely pick up "Switch" again, even though I am almost 60 years beyond middle school age. (By the way, I like it far better than any of the Harry Potter books, 4 of which I had picked up at a 2nd hand store, had started reading and had soon put aside.)

As an 8th grader, I love to read and I've read a lot of books on this list, but I also want to say that "middle school range" can vary from person to person. I read some of these when I was much younger, and I have not yet gotten to many others. So really middle school reading level can change depending on the person.
