The only book I physically own that is yellow enough (I hope) is

Annoyingly I don't own any that would be green enough, but I have plenty of blue and red.
I can check my library app for more yellow and/or green options, but I will wait until more people have claimed some options as I don't want to hog too many.

Oh really? Honestly, it looks yellow enough to me, but if the captains say no, I can't really argue. I'll put that on hold for now then and see what else I've got.

And I guess I'll be saving

I'm a bit disappointed by the lack of red cards too as I borrowed a book with a red cover. Oh well.

With that off my chest, I began as shorter book yesterday which I doubt I will finish this month, but it probably would be done in the first week of next month.
I'm looking forward to our March cards being given to us!

Alright, we will move this to the email thing. Let me know when you are ready begin planning the next read. :)

I listened to some Shakespeare recently (I find it easier to take it in when people are speaking Shakespeare) and I read Animal Farm last year at some point. Animal Farm was what I had heard it would be.
We didn't read those at my high school. We read Of Mice and Men and a couple of Shakespeare plays. I haven't heard of Go Set a Watchman.
I've not really read much poetry so I can't really provide much insight. I definitely want to read some of Poe's work. The others you mentioned, I can't say I've heard of. Maybe I should branch out into poetry more.
Also I looked at my Audible account and I have The Illiad and The Odessey waiting for me and because Audible were doing a 2 for 1 sale, I got A Tale of Two Cities and The Woman in White.

Can I be reminded on the standing with translators? I'm planning to start If Cats Disappeared from the World which was translated from Japanese to En..."
Aww that's a shame. Oh well, it still would work for several other cards.

Can I be reminded on the standing with translators? I'm planning to start If Cats Disappeared from the World which was translated from Japanese to English by Eric Selland whose name would work for 2 cards.
I might hold off on finishing it till next month now as it has a yellow cover so hopefully we will get a yellow card it can work for. But I could easily finish it this month if we need the points.

Oops, I thought I was on top of remembering to add them to my uno shelf. I've done it now.
I have now finished my 4 Red.

I haven't read anything by Homer yet, so I would be willing to do both.
I think the only thing I have read of Dickens so far was A Christmas Carol, so I definitely would like to read more of his work. 14 hours is not bad at all.
I really don't mind what we read. As long as it gets something off my list, I'm happy. Catch 22 would be nice as it has been staring at me for many years now and it seems like we are both apprehensive about it. But like I said, I don't mind reading any of the books we've mentioned.
I generally go into books blind with maybe a very basic knowledge of what to expect. But sometimes if I'm not sure about what to read next, reading a little bit about a book (not enough to spoil anything) can help me get interested and go for it.
I have a poster that is a 100 book bucket list and you scratch off the book when you have read it to reveal a picture relating to the book underneath. It some of the most well known classics on there including a couple of Shakespeare plays, Pride and Prejudice and Animal Farm. There are some on there I hadn't heard of before. Without counting, I believe I have read almost 30 now, but of mine is to get them all read.
I feel like books that have a historical element should be something people should read at least once so that people can understand how things were and the difference from then to today. Maybe that is the historian in me talking.
I think books like To Kill a Mockingbird and The Color Purple should be something everyone reads. I only read them last year, but it felt like a shame to have waited so long to read them.
Everyone should at least try the well known authors like Dickens, Jane Austin, Ernest Hemingway etc.
What about you? Do you have "must read" classics/authors?

I feel like Catch 22 will be one of those books that take me a long time to read so as long as you wouldn't mind doing a slower paced buddy read (at least on my part) then that could definitely be an option.
From your list, A Tale of Two Cities, The Illiad, The Odyssey and The Scarlett Letter are all on my list so I would also be happy with any of those. I Am Legend is also a book I would like to read.
I don't mind waiting until later in the year to do the next read. Most of the books we have mentioned, I would be reading electronically (ebook or audiobook) so it wouldn't matter if I am in the process of moving.
I'll take a look at the group, maybe it will help with the encouragement to read more classics.

1. The Handmaid's Tale (I watched the first season of the TV adaption so I know what to expect, but I've had a copy of the book for a few years)
2. The Alchemyst
3. Alice in Wonderland
4. Bleak House (or any Dickens really. I haven't read nearly enough)
5. The Shining
6. Jane Eyre
7. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
8. The Wind in the Willows
9 Gulliver's Travels
10. Catch-22 (I've owned this for a long time, but I've almost been dreading actually reading it)
Narrowing it down to a top 10 is difficult. I have so many to read!
I have a few that aren't quite classics, but they are books that people talked about a lot or were made into films:
The Girl on the Train
The Casual Vacancy
One Day
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Edit: I just compared books with you and you have read most of the ones I have listed >.< I'll wait for your reply and maybe we will find something, if not I guess we can list our next top 10. We'll find something, like I said, I have a lot of classics to read still.

One thing I can’t really understand is how Harry Potter seems more popular now than back when the books and films were coming out. There is merchandise everywhere now that I would have loved as a teenager, but now it’s like I’ve grown out of it and I’m not really interested. I’m hoping I won’t feel that way with the books though.
I’ll try and remember to put my list together tomorrow, I’ve had a busy day today and I’m exhausted. I look forward to seeing your list ^^

I generally try to read the book of something before I watch its adaption, but then I have to give it a bit of time otherwise I will be pointing out all the differences. I remember I tried to watch the Maze Runner film almost immediately after reading it and within 10 minutes, I couldn't watch anymore because the beginning was so different. I could probably watch it now as I read the books a good few years ago now so I don't remember the details.
From the age of 11 to about 15, the Harry Potter books were pretty much all I read. I would read what was out and then by that time the next books would have come out so I would read that and then re-read from the beginning and then the next book would have come out and so on. The last time I read them was a good 10 years ago, which is why I would like to re-read them, to see if they still have that same effect.
I believe I did do the house sorting thing and I think I got Hufflepuff (I would have preferred Ravenclaw). What did you get?
I really enjoyed this. This was the first buddy read I've properly taken part in. It definitely helped me pay more attention to the book and you helped me notice things that I woud have missed otherwise. I'm a little sad because I would look forward to your reply every day. I would be very happy to do this again in a couple of months with something else. If you would like I could put a list together of classic books I own or can easily get a hold of and we can see if there is anything we both have to read (or you can stalk my TBR, but it is a long list :P). Thank you very much for this, again, I really enjoyed it.

I tried to watch the Keira Knightly Pride and Prejudice a long time ago but I was very confused so I didn't get far nor can I remember any of it now. I hear the Percy Jackson films (if they even did more than one) were not very faithful to the story either, but I think they are doing new ones or maybe even a series.
I'll definitely be taking the Harry Potter books with me. I'm well overdue to re-read them, but I don't think I will get around to it this year with everything else I plan to read. I will also probably take the Hunger Game triology with me. I devoured about half of the first book in one sitting which is very rare for me, but I found the books went downhill after the first. I would like to read them again though. I have a couple of Sarah Dessen books that I loved as a teenager that I would keep more for nostalgia than anything else.
I do need to go through my books I have read and think seriously about whether I want to keep them or not. I have been getting better at parting ways with some books that I was keeping more for the memories than anything else. Afterall, nowadays it's so easy to get a new copy later down the line if I wanted to.
What books would you definitely keep, maybe even never get rid of?

The main character/narrator is French, born is Paris. The story isn't set there but there are references to his childhood in France. He later moves to New York and lives there for a while. The two main character later travel around the USA.
Dolores or "Lolita" is American.
Long shot ways of making it work could also be black text on cover, a person on the cover (although not a man) or a mostly green/yellow cover.

And yes, I agree, if the mother had been, well, more of a perfect mother then Humbert would be seen in a much worse light. But because she was portrayed the way she was, the reader almost doesn't feel affected by her death.
There are times where Humbert is describing the way Dolores is acting, making her seem almost like a siren, where she is trying to lure everyone too her and be provocative. But in reality, she is probably just looking for ways to have fun and enjoy her life.
I reached about the 70% mark yesterday. Dolores was about to take part in a school play but apprently has told Humbert that she doesn't like that school anymore and I think they began to travel again. More might have happened, but that is as much as I can remember without checking. The book is okay, but I don't think it will make it on my favourites list. It just annoys me because I try to be as honest as possible and I hope that people are honest back and listening to Humbert go on and on just feels like one big lie. Some of the things he said happened you hope they didn't happen, at least in the way he described it and then othe times, you just sit there and think "that never happened" or "no she didn't". But then he seems like the sort of person who is able to tell themselves a lie so much that they believe it to be truth.
The Count is definitely towards to top of my list of things to read, even more so now with your feedback. Perfume doesn't really sound like something I would love, but I would be willing to give it a go one day. I can't say that I recall being recommended a book from other books, but I definitely have had books mention other books that I have read.
In the first Artemis Fowl book, he kidnaps a fairy which causes chaos. He is essentially the bad guy in the book, but that changes later. So much has happened in the series that it would be very hard to explain. I was excited to hear that is was being made into a film, but then I saw the trailer and read some reviews and apparently it is nothing like the book, just has the characters. Since then I haven't been in a rush to watch the film. I had such high hopes.
I only try to add books to my TBR if I have been recommended the book by someone or I happen to read someone's review and it piques my interest. Not being able to go out and buy books has helped a bit too as I used to visit all the charity shops and look at what books they had, as well as some other stores that sell books. My TBR list has grown this year so far because I went through my books (physcial and electronical) and made sure they were all added to my TBR list... some were not. But I am optimistic I can get my TBR list back down and hopefully under where it was at the beginning of the year.
Thank you, I hope so too. It's just a waiting game right now until lockdown ends and I can actually travel.
