The 51 Most Read Books of the 2021 Goodreads Reading Challenge

We’ve gathered below the 51 most read books of the 2021 Goodreads Reading Challenge, as determined by which titles readers have marked off as “read.” (We take your word on these things.) These are titles generally categorized as adult books—YA is a whole other interesting story—and it’s amazing to see the sheer variety and range of it all.
This year’s list features old classics like The Great Gatsby and Wuthering Heights, modern classics like Where the Crawdads Sing and Mexican Gothic, and a constellation of literary fiction, mystery, romance and biography. It’s encouraging to see a strong showing this year from books about mindfulness and mutual support. Plus Agatha Christie, of course.

From the list above I've read (this year) only "Normal People" and it leaves a lasting impact on me. The therapeutic one.

Awaken the Kitten Within by David Michie - the latest of the Dalai Lama's Cat series. I have loved every one of these books - and hope there will be another.
Great list! I've already read 15 of the books, and most of the rest are on my TBR. I'm currently reading The Push and loving it!
I’ve read 10 also. A lot remaining are American books, which aren’t always available in the UK, unfortunately. Perhaps GoodRead could do one by readers’ country?
I have read 30 of the books on this list. So many great books! I love the mix of classics and newer releases.
I’m at 23, too! 3 on my TBR bookshelf. After reading the comments, I must add the Push. Not from this list, but I’m currently reading My Monticello and the Sentence and I highly recommend both as well as ( also not on this list) Love Songs of WEB DuBois and Lincoln Highway. Sorry to digress but I get excited about books…. And we can all appreciate recommendations, right?
For The WolfWolf Cursed and Wolf Cursed
The Prison Healer and The Gilded Cage
The Crown of Gilded Bones
Mexican Gothic
The Whisper Man
So many....just so many.
Next year I'm not going to be trying to keep up with Bookstagram. I'm going to read for myself.
I've read 12 of these books. One of my top reads of this year was Another Brooklyn by Jacqueline Woodson.I also read and really liked Motherless Brooklyn by Lethem this year.
Challenged myself to 80 as opposed to 100 this year as i had more time last year due to lockdown. Ive completed 80 and will probably read 2 or 3 more by year end. Have read a lot of great books but my favourite has to be shuggie bain
I wrote this wrong. Thought we were sharing how many we'd read but not from the list. Trust me. 11 from this list with a few in my tbr pile
I've read 24, there's a few on here I'll see if I can get to before December ends. Everyone loves The Push so maybe that'll be first.
In a year when Indigenous authors have some of the best books (and scooped literary prizes) I noticed none here. Out of 31 books I read so far this year, 8 were by Indigenous artists.
I’ve read 19 and have another ten marked as Want to Read. Especially loved Circe, The Vanishing Half and Such a Fun Age.

Have read 26. Being in two book clubs definitely ups my count each year. I especially loved both books by Madeline Miller: Circe and The Song of Achilles.
I have read at least 34 books maybe more. But the three that have stuck in my memory are.1. THE NIGHT WINDOW, by Dean Koontz.
2. CHASING THE BOOGEYMAN, by Richard Chizmar.
3. A TIME TO KILL, by John Grisham.
There's only one book on this list i read - The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue - wasn't a huge fan, unfortunately.my personal top ten that i read this year, i've read 138, so it's hard to just pick even five so take ten, but, these were not necessarily published this year, and are not in any particular order:
1 The Guardian (i will die for this book please someone read this and cry with me)
2 Light from Uncommon Stars
3 Bad Witch Burning
4 The Bronzed Beasts
5 The Orphan Witch
6 Cemetery Boys
7 Cast in Conflict
8 The Forest of Stolen Girls
9 Sorcery of Thorns
10 The Fifth Season

I've read 26 of these and want to read 3 others on the list. I'd find it really hard to choose my favourite so my top 5 are Wuthering Heights, Circe, Wear the Crawdads Sing, The Great Gatsby and Educated. As usual there are so many fantastic books to read and not enough time!
Karl wrote: "Goodreader's choices in books are pretty terrible NGL"A person's choice of what to read is personal and subjective. You don't share taste generally with Goodreads users, and that's fine, this is just a piece of interesting trivia, not a declaration of which books are the best, or which you should read.
Perhaps you'd like to put a list of your favorite books up for commentary by the general public and see how amazing and impeccable your choices are. ;)
