The Year's Most Popular YA Debuts So Far

Posted by Marie on August 13, 2019
Move over tribute volunteers and chosen ones. There's a new wave of heroes in town.

This year, the young adult category is brimming with fresh talent and diverse voices across contemporary, sci-fi, and fantasy. For this list, we took a look at debuts published in the U.S. since January to bring you the books that your fellow YA readers can't stop adding to their Want to Read shelves.

These include Justin A. Reynold's time-traveling love story, BookTuber star Christina Riccio's coming-of-age-in-college tale, Emily A. Duncan's epic war between gods and monsters, and Rory Power's dystopian horror set in an all-girls school.

nitya This Time Will Be Different isn’t a debut, the author previously published another YA book (It’s Not Like It’s a Secret) :)

Spin the Dawn, Don’t Date Rosa Santos, and How It Feels to Float are on my list!

TMR We hunt the flame hehe...

Calista I can tell my genre. I don't like the first rows of contemporary covers at all. Then the fantasy covers show up and I start liking almost all of them. Kind of funny.

Unfortunately, that's pretty much the only thing to love about Wilder Girls. I for one found it highly weird...

Lisa Noble Field Guide is amazing. Funny, unexpected, great Canadian touches. Anyone who's ever been a fish out of water in a teenage social situation will relate.
