Bored, Dumb, Ineffective and Unfulfilled Smart Phone Users
Bored, Dumb, Ineffective and Unfulfilled Smart Phone Users
If someone instinctively and repeatedly picks up a mobile device to consume media (or conduct Google searches) while engaged in another activity, he/she is bored, and seeking to be distracted from the first activity.
When someone is on a date with someone they really desire to be with (for example the first pursued and long awaited date), the last thing they are likely to do is be distracted with a mobile device lest they offend the person.
Alternatively, if someone is at work or at home bored doing a task they don't desire to do, it is understandable why they would engage in using their mobile device to consume media or conduct Google searches.
Developmental psychologist Maryanne Wolf says, "When we read online, our ability to ...make rich mental connections that form when we read deeply and without distraction, remains largely disengaged" (Carr). Likewise rich relational and emotional connections are thwarted and hindered as a result of mobile device distractions interfering with meaningful communication and conversation.
Nicholas Carr notes the digital age generation with their mobile devices have "decided that uninterrupted engagement is boring" (Lecture 5.1). "Without our full and complete attention we're missing important information about day to day life" (5.1), which mobile devices in the hands of bored users distract them from obtaining.
Bored people suffering information overload from excessive mobile device usage are mentally and emotionally drained of their inner resources and unable to be present with people. Hindered from simply being still, they are unable to hear their own voice. The chambers of mobile device addicts' internal imagery are bombarded with so many visuals that when they have a conversation or engage in a task they are divided internally and often unable to focus. Thus bored and divided souls often prefer immediate stimulation over meaningful interaction and activity (productivity).
Playwright Richard Foreman calls these who suffer from information overload "pancake people" who are "spread wide and thin" (Carr). Thus like an employee who smokes cigarettes regularly, mobile device addicts seeking to minimize their boredom often are incapable of undivided focus, maximum productivity and peak performance because two hands are rarely on the job. Present in body and absent in mind, mobile device users (though some argue they are "multitasking") are in actuality less efficient and effective while having an IQ 10 points lower than their peers (Kraus).
Though a mobile device may be the answer to boredom, it is not the way to a blessed life.

Medical Services, Medical Payment Methods and Medical Options
Medical Services, Medical Payment Methods and Medical Options
How may the different forms of payment for medical services influence treatment seeking and access to services?
Payment in the United States, what I like to call "corporation nation," heavily influence the type (and to what extent) of care a person receives.
I have both worked in an emergency room at a hospital and endured visiting various physicians following a car accident when a drunk driver totaled my car and injured me.
I was shocked to see so many physician receptionists behave more like paralegals shoving a stack of legal documents in my face to sign before allowing me to ever see a physician.
Being paid is often the utmost priority of physicians and medical staff by reason of the way the system is structured. I realize medical school is the U.S. is extremely expensive and student loans burdensome, but treating patients like clients to monetize the moment seems rather inhumane to me.
Medical insurance in the U.S. rarely covers holistic and alternative treatments (which are far less expensive and could save both insurance companies and patients money). For example yoga, massage and chiropractic care are of disregarded and not thought of as legitimate medical care by many insurance companies.
Such services in the U.S. are often paid for out of pocket by consumers and patients. Some insurers cover chiropractic care to an extent, but not all.
Whenever I visited physicians and was reluctant to sign any legal documents (usually those wanting me to sign over access to bill and access ALL my financial entitlements following an accident) my care came to a standstill and negotiations began as to whether or not I truly had to sign the document to be seen by a physician.
Often I would cross out portions of the contract and consent forms I disagreed with, initial them and turn them in after having modified them. Usually the billing reps at the front of the physician's office rarely bothered to check the contractual details I had altered. Thankfully what I learned in law school came in handy during this season of my life.
My last visit to an alternative medicine physician was rather awkward. The doctor was not there so I saw a physician assistant (PA) who gave me some very basic info on nutrition I already knew (being a health coach and former fitness trainer). When I then visited the specialist I truly came to see (only after getting through the PA visit first) at the time of check I noticed I was charged $180 USD for a consultation with the PA.
I immediately objected and refused to pay it. Thankfully the front desk receptionist realized the bait and switch tactics going on at the clinic and removed the charge when I protested.
Such add on charges are happening everyday and usually being billed to insurance companies without objection. When I as a person without medical insurance however pay out of pocket, most physicians reduce the charges what they typically bill insurers.
So there are two tiers of billing based on who is paying - more for the insurers and less for the patient paying out of pocket usually. This smells of corruption but goes on daily throughout the U.S. where medical procedures are more costly than anywhere else in the world.
My last visit was paid for out of pocket, cash by me personally. But had I not been able to pay, I would have been refused to be seen and any treatment.
Medicaid is very useful and a step in the right direction to serve the poor. Otherwise those struggling financially often go to the emergency room to be seen where they cannot be refused a visit with a physician (although they may have to wait up to 8 hours sometimes during busy hours to be seen).
The elderly in nursing homes paid for by medicaid often are not treated too good, nor cared for to the extent they could be were they paying out of pocket larger amounts.

Health For All - Support Health in Developing Countries
Health For All - Support Health in Developing Countries
The World Health Organization confirms 1 billion people have never seen a healthcare worker.
Hundreds of thousands of villages have no electricity, water and sanitation systems like we daily take for granted in the western world.
Imagine what we could do to change that in developing countries.
Paul F. Davis is a worldwide minister who has touched 70 countries serving in war-torn, impoverished and disaster stricken lands on a shoestring budget. He has also earned 2 Master degrees in Global Affairs (NYU) and Global Food Law (MSU).
Paul has written 20 books and obtained several certificates in health from world famous universities. A former lifeguard and personal fitness trainer, as a health coach, nutritional consultant and disease prevention speaker Paul yearns to return to developing countries where he is most needed to teach the poor in villages where sanitation is a problem and parasites are destroying humans' organs and thus their immunity, health and lives.
Paul nearly died himself in Africa, India, Myanmar, Thailand and Indonesia from water pollution an dfood poisoning.
By reason of buying thousands of dollars of books and researching parasitology, a subject few doctors in the West and Asia know much about; Paul was able to rid his body of parasites, detox from the inside out and rejuvenate and restore his health.
He now wants to take these lifesaving truths to developing countries but greatly needs financial support to get there and sustain himself while he travels throughout the villages and remote areas.

YouTube Impact on American Culture, News and Politics
Youtube Impact on American Culture, News and Politics
Ranking YouTube based on its impact upon politics, culture and news (from most to least) here in the United States where YouTube is heavily used, but only for 15 minutes a day (and primarily for entertainment purposes); I rank the three as follows:
1. Culture
2. News
3. Politics
Culture is largely influenced by popular demand and what is desirable within a country by people. YouTube provides a platform for all races, ethnic groups and people to be heard in the United States - a nation with vast diversity and known worldwide to be a melting pot of multiculturalism. Therefore by providing a platform to Americans in the United States, the fourth most populated nation on earth, YouTube both helps influence national culture and international ideas about America.
Upon searching for "American Culture" on Youtube, I found several videos.
http://www.youtube.com/results?search......
One comedian who never made me laugh, has received over 1 million page views of his video on American culture.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyPMyW...
A more interesting video on "American Culture Shock for International Students" has received over 92,000 page views.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iPQZS...
News is not defined as it used to be before YouTube and the age of citizen journalism. Decades ago news was delivered by traditional mainstream media outlets in the USA - NBC, ABC, CBS and later via cable providers like CNN. Thus these 4 news channels had a large and arguable monopoly somewhat over national news on TV. The emergence of cable TV brought about other national news channels like Fox.
Today YouTube serves as another platform and medium by which the news can be delivered. However because people now can decide what they want to watch, given the fact hundred of channels exist both on TV because of cable on online because of YouTube and citizen journalism, less traditional news is watched. The most frequently watched programs as cited by Wharton School of Business (University Pennsylvania) in a Global Business of Sports course offered in 2013 by Coursera are live sports and secondly reality TV.
Paid channels on YouTube reiterate this emphasis:
http://www.youtube.com/channels/paid_...
The "news" therefore for Americans can now consist of what celebrities or reality TV "stars" are doing in their personal lives. Unlike traditional news watched by our parents and grandparents, such interests deemed by some to be news are often entertainment oriented and driven.
Thus when viewing Voice of America's News & Politics channel on YouTube, though the videos posted are noteworthy and representative of American news and politics; the views are very minimal compared to other YouTube channels focusing more on entertainment interests.
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=...
For example the U.S. Government shutdown video with clips from Congress on the floor negotiating and deliberating over the state of the union, only received 1,504 views.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2cf5M...
Politics
Americans are tired of politics absorbing the airwaves. When I searched "American politics" on YouTube I found several old videos on American politics that have been visible and on YouTube for more than 6 months which were rarely watched.
http://www.youtube.com/results?search...
American politics explained by a British commentator received 620 views:

Diarrhea Prevention - Reducing Diarrheal Diseases and Pathogens
Diarrhea Prevention - Reducing Diarrheal Diseases and Pathogens
Having suffered immensely with diarrhea in Africa and India, I personally know how painful it can be to have your stomach turned inside out. Thereafter pathogens can cause you to have hernias and more health problems. Thus I take the matter of diarrhea causes diseases very seriously.
To reduce such diseases providing better water sanitation is a great governmental and community wide action step which public and private sectors can collaborate to accomplish.
An action step everyone can take of utmost importance daily however is to thoroughly wash our hands and only wash food with clean water.
Dr. Bernard Keraita (University of Copenhagen, PhD) provided some excellent guidelines in his lecture I heard within a Global Public Health course.
1. Farmers should use mature manure (allowing five to six weeks of time for heating to kill most pathogens).
2. Only apply manure for fertilizer to the soil, not to the crops.
3. Forbid harvesters and traders from washing harvested vegetables with the local irrigation water, which causes crop contamination.
Washing should be done with clean water only.
Perhaps women are more inclined to think as mothers (or future mothers) acknowledging first and foremost what they can do domestically at home to safeguard their children and families. Thus washing hands and focusing hygiene are great steps. Men are more inclined to think outside the home (and engineering is a male dominated field) so naturally men are apt to think infrastructure and mention water sanitation systems

Health Questions, Health Coach vs Medical Care in America
Health Questions, Health Coach vs Medical Care in America
Health and medical care are NOT the same. Medical schools (financed heavily by pharmaceutical companies) teach physicians how to treat illness with drugs.
As a health coach I employ the methods of Hippocrates the father of medicine who said "Let food be your medicine."
Parasites, pathogens and viruses worth with biology to morph and cause harm within the human body. Many have already outsmarted antibiotics and transformed themselves to survive.
Therefore instead of approaching symptoms, illness and disease as a terrorist with the weaponry of drugs, chemo, radiation and invasive surgeries (though extremely costly and profitable for the medical industry) it is far more advantageous for people strengthen the immunity of their human bodies.
The latter approach focusing on human immunity, health and nutrition is my focus as a health coach.
Medical care in America is weak and monetary motivated. The last time I went to the public health department I saw how people were made to wait for hours and treated like cattle.
The last time I went to a private "family health clinic" to see a general practicing physician it was to have my arm evaluated following a tuberculosis shot which was required of me to be a public school teacher.
I already paid for the shot in another county in Florida and simply needed a nurse to look at my arm for a second and sign a document. The "family" physician center where I had gone for decades with my grandparents as a child refused to see me because I had not been checked out in over 2 years.
In other words I was healthy and because they were not making money from me, they refused to see me, or sign the requested document.
I left angry and drove a mile away to another private clinic (much less busy and far less monetary motivated) where a kind nurse saw my arm was fine and signed the document without charge.
My wife is Canadian. A few years ago when in Toronto I had a physical for which I paid $75 out of pocket (still far less than what I would have paid in the United States). After the checkup the physician told the nurse, "Give him his money back. There is nothing wrong with you."
That would have never happened in the United States of Arrogance where money drives the medical industry. How do I know? Because when a dermatologist performed a procedure that bruised my face and left me looking like a leper for 3 weeks and failed to heal some minor rosacea, afterward she refused to refund the $250 she charged me to inflict such pain and misery.

Teen Drug Use Prevention - Pain, Suffering and Long-Term Costs
Teen Drug Use Prevention - Pain, Suffering and Long-Term Costs
Teen drug use is a real problem throughout the world. I know I have traveled to 70 countries and seen it with my own eyes. Go to a dance club on the weekend and you will see teens under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Even worse, they later get in cars or on motorcycles and drive under the influence endangering their lives, their fellow teen passengers and others on the road traveling.
Years ago I worked in an emergency room (ER) during the graveyard shift. I saw teenagers parents come the the ER agonizing over the tragic news they had received that their children were in a deadly car accident. Usually the teens wearing safety belts survived, but others went flying through windshields and died.
Sobbing parents with dreams for the teens shattered and sudden life-altering news and tragedies reminded me of my childhood. Drug use and alcohol abuse is a thief that comes in the night to rob families of all the years, hopes and dreams they together had and were building for the future.
Successful teen drug use prevention has to be hard-hitting, palpable (something kids can visually see and feel), and articulated with heart, passion by a person who has experienced firsthand the pain and suffering caused by drug use.
My mother was a drug user who would have hallucinations. My grandmother called 911 a few times during my childhood, after which emergency paramedics arrived to remove my mother at all hours of the night.
Drug use is sold to teenagers as a thrill, but the reality is drug use kills. My mom fried her brain (a university graduate and high-school cheerleader) from drug use. When all her former boyfriends were done using their drugs and her body for sex, they moved on with their lives, but my mom became a drug addict.
Then the psychiatrists further fried her brain with their psychiatric drugs they prescribed (as if drugs can cure a drug problem).
What the psychologists missed however (they probably didn't get much of a chance since the pill pushing psychiatrists took over) was my mother was adopted. She struggled with feelings of rejection and therefore sought love in all the wrong places - seeking male affirmation and self-actualization.
Years later my mother at the age of 49 was hit by an 18 year-old driver out driving drunk on the highway. While my mom ran across the street at 2am, the drunk driving teen hit her and killed her on impact.
Not a pretty way for a cheerleader to end her life, neither a very good way for an 18 year-old teen to begin his life.
I watched the police video from the scene of the accident in which the teenager gave a mortal scream, "I can't live with this on my mind!"
Thus not only will drug use wreck your body and mind, it will put you in a premature grave after it has stolen your life.
The pain, suffering and cost of drug use and alcoholic abuse is this; lots of time and money being robbed from you along with a lifelong distraction from your potential and you fulfilling your destiny.
I chose not to punish the 18 year-old who killed my mom with prison (I actually met, forgave and prayed with the young man), but felt he should pay restitution (her funeral expenses). The judge made the teen pay $5,000 to me to help cover my mom's funeral expenses.
It took the teen about 5 years to pay it ($50 checks every month) but he did.
So the next time you drink or want to use drugs, count the cost both to yourself, your family and others. Is it worth the pain and suffering?

Google Default Settings, Ideology and Privacy Policy
Google Default Settings, Ideology and Privacy Policy
It seems to me Google's default settings are an expression of an unspoken ideology, corporate agenda, and privacy policy allowing consumers to opt out (if they are intelligent enough to do so and can find WHERE ONLINE to do so).
Thus while consumers and online surfers become more educated of the nuances of search, Google's capabilities, and possible violations of their privacy; by the time most realize what is going on, Google has already amassed a sizeable treasure trove of data on consumers.
In the USA people are not even voting online yet. It therefore is a bit ambitious to expect people to know how to opt out of targeted adverts and spyware (algorithms) monitoring the sites they visit.
