Damn, updated the books I've read is hard enough to finish (I still have half a month's worth to shelve) but I've still got to fit them into my challenges as well. Argh. Why does the GR app suck so much? I wish like hell I could have kept up with all these while on the road; the effort I'm putting in now almost makes me wish I'd just sucked it up and dealt with fixing the errors from app entries later...

I'm HOME! Finally - damn, after 6 weeks, I already felt like I needed a vacation from my forever-long vacation. Now, to catch up on all the books I need adding to my shelves...and update my challenges because OMFG did I read/listen to a shitton of books while I was gone! ALSO: WTF GoodReads? I hate this new layout...

I'm not sure how or why I've not read this series yet; so far so good! New-to-me narrator but it's a whodunit/procedural so I'm confident once again that it won't matter...

JFC I love it when authors put their characters through events that force them to grow in some way but oh holy hell this is a painfully familiar struggle. It's one thing to recognize you have a problem, but there has to be some need to improve the situation - to WANT more, to get better. Michael is just self-medicating his depression and it's only getting worse...

Gawd the social commentary on racism & prejudice is scathing (but accurate). Also, I can't even count the number of times my educator friends have made some of these same observations about the entire educational system.

Holy fuck everything about this book is so good...

I only spent a week in NYC last summer but OMFG the descriptions and settings are so visceral. I quite literally made the same observation regarding how far the Brooklyn line felt from the other stations - mainly Times Sq & Grand Central (we stayed across the bridge in LIC right under the train line).

Oh the irony of discussing your father's reluctance to stop drinking even though he's dying of cirrosis WHILE SUFFERING FROM the effects of a month-long drunk hangover...

I already love the tone and POV of this book...something about it is grittier, more raw; the unapologetic dialogue and realistic characterization makes the whole thing all really, really refreshing.

LOL! These two alpha male types awkwardly dancing around gentlemanly behavior like which of them is expected to open doors or go through first is KILLING ME! I guess that's not something that I would even consider optional (I was raised in The South; we ladies have expectations) so I kinda love that it's even laid out here as one of those things needing navigation differently between gay men than it does het couples.

Yeah, I know I prefer procedural/whodunit plots when it comes to audio books. I should stick with these from now on unless it's an author or narrator I've listened to before. This is a new-to-me narrator and I don't think I've read anything by this author but the mystery and setting is interesting so I'm not worried...

OMG this book is so boring. If I didn't need a title with a wedding theme for a challenge I would just say, "Fuck it."

I picked this book because of the cover. Usually, that's a strategy that works somewhat well for me. Maybe not so much in this case. It looks like a red-haired Mitch (from Special Delivery) and a young, flirty Robert Downy Jr. The mental image of that pairing shorted my brain so of course I was compelled to listen. Not living up to the fantasy here...

That "NQA" example was poorly set-up and a missed opportunity were this real life; it's quite possible the guy checking out his reflection, smiling and winking at the mirror in the bathroom was simply a nervous guy trying to give himself a pep-talk or working himself up to flirt more AND NOT a case of self-absorption.

Meh. I'm not overly fond of this narrator - John Solo. Don't think I've ever listened to him before. Kinda hating the voice he's using for Marilyn...

Holy shit! I didn't think Jae-min topping would be as sexy sounding as it is. Fuck...

Greg Tremblay is a narration GOD.

LOL @ Bitter Melon being described by Scarlet as "Satan's Dick." Oddly, I actually LIKE it after it's been cooked correctly and sauteed into some bihon pancit. Of course, I also really like dinuguan and innumerable other "weird" Asian dishes. Like Cole, though, there can't be any heads or visible eyes...

I love how trans-positive and trans-visible this installment is -- Rhys writes really well-researched and considerate books. Cole ALWAYS defends Scarlet and refers to her as 'she' but in this story he's even more sensitive to and vocal about how others treat the women in this community. Bravo.

Oh man, and I thought the physical pain The Scion put Illythe through was torture...the mental conditioning into that kind of obedient pet/slave is almost worse.

The Scion sounds like a truly hideous and horrendous being; the pain inflicted during sex seems like it would kill a lesser species (like a human).

Seriously, what the FUCK is up with that case? Why in the hell did Cole's work-partner murder his life-partner and then off himself? Something about Sheila's comment on 'making Ben gay' (or whatever) leads me to think that maybe the partners were having an affair...and maybe the cop was jilted and went nuts? I don't know. It's killing me that I can't figure this out as quickly as I normally would in a procedural.

Ooh, I knew the non-consent was going to be an issue but this IS the year I push my boundaries and test my hard limits. Managed to get past the initial forced sexual contact (as the show of domination in a wrestling ring) but I worry this will be a DNF if it gets worse.

OMFG I can't even tell you how much time I lost to that show while my kid was a toddler. One minute the theme show played & the next it was dinner time. Well, that's not bad, you say? Yeah, the marathon typically came on at 9 am. Hell, my son still calls pudding "tubby custard" and he's THIRTEEN!

I don't think I've laughed so much this early listening to one of the McGinnis series books. I love Cole's personality and sense of humor...Rhys is ridiculously talented at characterization.
