Oh gawd yessssh. This is everything I love about the "straight" cops undercover as gay trope...all of it, right here. Okay, wow...I had no idea this was set in the early 1980s. That's really interesting; I hope the details match up to what I remember of them!

Holy hell. We're constantly bombarded with statistics and sometimes the cause is so depressing or overwhelming that it's understandable when a person has to let it become background noise or risk it pulling them under. Cancer, heart disease, diabetes, gay-bashing, rape, murder...scary info overload. But I honestly had no idea that a US vet kills themselves nearly every 65 minutes. That's horrifying & heartbreaking.

I'm not even a pet person but I'm glad the service dog recovered - last book I read with one (seeing-eye dog) didn't turn out so well for the pooch and it made me sad.

OMG, how is that one paragraph can have a sentence that irritates me to no end and the very next paragraph make me laugh so hard I nearly peed? What a sense of humor. (Man in wheelchair is double amputee and humorously - introduced himself as 'Lieutenant Dan' and Dax choked on his laughter. That WOULD be "some pretty funny shit!"

Ugh, not the first time in this book but the odd grammatical phrasing is starting to drive me up the wall: "There's one seat open...next to a man who looks old enough to be my grandfather in a wheelchair." Shouldn't that read, "...next to a man in a wheelchair who looks old enough to be my grandfather"? Or is the man not the one in the wheelchair? Argh!!

Shit. I guess if someone has a PTSD induced panic attack, the VA clinic is probably the best place to melt down & sort that out.

Ha! I think Chase's shrink just made reference to another character in an Amy Lane novel: Talker (Burn scars covered later by tattoos.)

I can't imagine living that kind of double life - the earlier reference to "Victor/Victoria" is so apropos...coincidence, irony or fate that Chase's middle name (and his father's first) is in fact Victor?

I think I'm going to end up reading 3 Sarina Bowen books within a 24hr period. I know she writes a lot of MF but fuck she does a fantastic job with the MM as well. Wish there were a shit ton more of them...

I changed my challenge goal today...I mean, it's only the end of February and - once I get the damned shelves updated on what I've read in the last month - I'll have over 150 completed. That would have been 3/4 of my goal. So, now it's 300 books and I'll re-evaluate THAT in 2 more months...

You know, looking at the updates for authors and a handful of people I follow...I realized I should just stick with books they've either written &/or highly recommended. Too often I've fallen for a summary that ticks all the right boxes but somehow falls flat. You know what didn't disappoint me? Reading a book (Enemies of State) based on one update that was basically "ARGH the UST!" Best decision EVER.

OMG. It's taken me HOURS to update just the handful of books I read the last week of January...and I still have over 70 books to have my shelves up to date for JUST THIS YEAR. I'm never going to get any other year's worth up. Part of me wants to keep grinding away, get it done...most of me wants to just go back to bed and read some more. (Which will eventually put me even further behind.) GAH!

Is it February 5th yet? No? Damn, it's taking tooooooo looooooonnnnng to get here and I am DYING, absolutely foaming at the mouth, to get my hands on the next Charlie Cochet THIRDS book. This one about a cute, blond, mischievous sniper & his explosives expert, tiger-shifting, selectively mute partner. Their names? Calvin Summers and Ethan Hobbs. BECAUSE IT'S PRECISELY CALVIN AND HOBBS!! (Only, y'know, sexing it up.)

Looking at some cover art to decide which book will be up next and about fell over when I saw the one for LA Witt's "If the Seas Catch Fire." It's so hot...and I swear to all that is holy, it looks like a screengrab from TeenWolf where Derek get's wolfy. Which I am all on board with. Tyler Hoechlin is sex incarnate.

The last book I finished, In From the Cold by Mercy Celeste really wrung me out. I think I'm gonna sleep for week.
