Yanno, thinking back on it, I was a little put out that we didn't get the actual scene painted for us where Laurie takes home Ed & they blow each other. Felt like, as a reader (listener?) I got cheated. But, the more I pondered on it, the more I realized it was damn fine storytelling to have Laurie relate the exchange afterwards because hearing it like that made me sympathize with Ed. Made me feel like he might have.

JFC are women this ridiculous at romance? It's never been something I consciously pay attention to because usually it's all, "hot fuck...hot fuck...hot fuck...oh, it's been a while eh? Guess we're together now." (Fairytale Princess w/HEA? Not me.) Oh, wait, not romance. Ian can't even say that. "Emotional connectedness." *snorffle* He's so cluelessly male it's not even funny. Except, it IS funny, because it's true.

My favorite paragraph so far: "...trying not to overthink what it meant that Ian wanted to food shop with him. To think or not to think, that was the question. Come to think of it, the real problem was just overthinking. I think. Possibly he should just stop thinking about it now." Fuck, it's just so...ME. That's what MY inner voice sounds like! Also, LMGDAO at the "lecture on the etiquette of buying drugs."

The doorbell rings unexpectedly & because he's assuming it's GOT to be unwanted proselytizers, Sam is trying to decide whether to hide or pretend he's "a mentally unstable Satan worshipper?" O.M.F.G. I thought I was the only one who did shit like that!!! Sweartagod, there is nothing funnier than seeing the face of a missionary who'd asked if I'd found Jesus after I answered, "Oh no! I had no idea he'd been missing!"

Gawd, I love how this book makes fun of itself, basically. Plot devices and characterization and all the good shit that propels the story...OTL, crazy inner monologues, parallels to romance novels in general. Seriously, way meta.

*Dies* OMG I almost peed my pants when Ian said that Sam's wide and puffy lips reminded him of Trouty-Mouth Sam's on Glee. Will NEVER get that image out of my head now. (Too bad THIS Sam doesn't have a body like THAT Sam so he didn't feel so insecure!) *Sigh* I need to find a book with an MC like Dave...such wasted potential all to satisfy the teeny bopper rainbow brigade's demand for twink couple perfection. *Gag*

LMAO at Sam's internal dialogue & embarrassment during the mixer and hot tub.

I do so very much appreciate how the chapter titles/dance definitions reflect the subsequent action/drama/tension. Gives you an idea of what *might* happen (if you consider them foreshadowing or pseudo-analogies)...but keeps you on your toes (ha! punny) with anticipation and interested in what's to come.

Oh, ISTG - men and their infernal misplaced pride. It makes for good tension and drama but OMG sometimes I wish men IRL weren't like this, too. (But not like when they're sick, and then they are dying and the world is ending and everything hurts and no one cares...blah blah blah. Poor babies. [/sarcasm])

I'm kinda loving how they both have these stereotypical expectations and they're both so fucking wrong.

Oddly enough, I'm finding it easier to concentrate on the story even while doing something else when I'm not familiar with the book!

I do so appreciate Ed's voice in this. A little like Mitch's (from Special Delivery) but not as country/sexy. And Laurie's is much softer than Sam's. Iggy really is so talented.

So this is the first audio book I've listened to without having read the original before-hand. I wonder if it makes a difference?

I'm gonna cry with how well Iggy is narrating the conversation Sam & Mitch had talking about taking those ashes and the 'I love you's were so touching.

Gawd. Even knowing how it turns out for them, listening to the wind-up for their parting is breaking my heart all over again...

OMG I love that stretch of I-70! Glenwood Canyon is to die for beautiful; Loveland Pass and the Eisenhower Tunnel are indeed works of engineering wonder. The whole area takes my breath away every. single. time. Oddly, it's not the craggy, snow-capped peaks of the Rockies that amaze me most about Colorado, but literally everything else. I'd move there in a heartbeat...

Sam mentally listing all of the things he is once he had that epiphany of his power and learned to accept his own desires reminds me so very much of Berlin's "Sex (I'm a...)." The next time I hear it I will definitely try to consider the lyrics in context.

Wow, I love how the places are detailed in this book. Zion IS as amazing as described. I love being so close to the park but I wish that I could go more often.

God, I remember reading this the first time and thinking how much of an ASSHOLE Randy could be...hearing it reminds me of that, and while it still makes me frustrated with him I know better now. He's still a dick, but you can't help loving him anyway. Hopefully the audio for the second one will come out soon! (Unless it already is, and then I hope I get it for Mother's Day or can afford it soon!)

Every couple chapters I keep going back to listen to the phone sex scene. I'm such a horny perv...

LOL! I love how Sam made a point of paying for the drinks at the bar. He needed to make sure those people didn't see him as what Mitch & Randy might typically bring in there, the type they might usually play with. That he wasn't a whore or a piece of side ass or anything less than his own person making his own decisions, responsible for his own actions, needs, wants, desires, kinks...

Yeeeeeaaah, I don't like the Randy voice. Crap, everything about this book was perfect until now. Hopefully it grows on me.

God, I remember that feeling of awe the first time I saw the Grand Canyon. (Also, I think I've been to that big ass truck stop they went to with the Navajo tacos!)

I want to laugh at Sam's freakout going up and down the mountain roads - but I know it's a real fear for some. Me? God, it was a rush like none I'd felt...wish I was driving a truck at the time and not a tiny Saturn.

While I'm grateful I didn't end up the victim of some serial killer, listening to this makes me feel like I was cheated a little in my own cross-country escape via hitchhiking with truckers. Damn fools never even propositioned me (and I was HOT then) - kept saying how it was a way for them to take care of someone the way they hoped their own sister/daughter/etc. would be treated & protected in such a situation.
