I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I am liking this book. Stories centered on Weres (and shifters in general) don't often grab my interest quite so well; I'm usually in it for the kinky sex. Oddly enough, there's not as much of that as I expected - and it's not a disappointment.

I hope that Cam can get past feeling like he didn't 'pay' for his crime - he did. Giving witness to the others' involvement, bringing down the gang leader...that's not easy to live with either. I kinda like that he even said he'd have rather done some time in jail than do that & face the asshole in court (although I don't approve of staying silent IRL if keeps the truly violent out of jail; snitch away brother).

*fist pump* HA! I knew that - despite Archie needing to take Cam in - Cam would already be feeling the weight of his involvement & the need to atone; would want to pay for his crime. He wants to feel like he deserves the love and home he's found with Nichol, the respect he earned from Harry, the life he's been given a chance to lead, a future worthy of the man he's trying to be.

Okay, that whole Keystone Coppers thing was just...as discordant as that graphic depiction of Nichol & Cam having sex. (Not the BJs - those fit.) (Yeah, yeah. So there wasn't an actual KCs scene; but the hitman showing up & everyone's subsequent escape just felt so...ugh. No.) I'mma need to re-listen maybe?

Well, I get that a hitman has come for Cam - thanks to Kenzie, not Archie?!?! - and Nichol is trying to diffuse the situation, keep him from killing Cam...who DIDN'T have anything to do with the murder? Or was actually there but as an witness who needs eliminating now? I thought Cam told Nichol he'd killed someone...

Oh, of course Archie and Shona show up NOW...

Okay, again...that's the Cam I've been hearing about, the guy I thought I understood - a man who would eventually realize he needs to go back & face his crime, should admit his guilt & pay his debt to society. I know that Nichol doesn't want to lose him but if the boy stayed, hid, moved on...would it be the same Cam he fell in love with? The blissful ignorance is gone; that's got to weigh on him too, to matter...

God, ginormous angry storm as representative of churning, scary emotions & fear of losing Cam. I do so love symbolism. Also, yeah. Him running, severing the ties before they're severed for him, before losing Nichol's love...that makes more sense given the Cam we've come to know and grown to empathize with. (Also, I honestly thought the dogs - knowing he belongs there - were gonna try to herd him home again, LOL!)

I'm not sure shoving what he knows under the rug is gonna work. He loves Cam, sure. Certainly doesn't want to lose him...but can Nichol live with that? Won't that change how he views Cam, distort and ruin the lens he sees Cam through? The boy's been mostly honest up to that point; will this ruin the trust they've built?

So, okay. We're just gonna ignore it. Good plan. Sure, he's probably changed & maybe it WAS an accident (manslaughter) or he really only just stood by while the poor guy got killed (even if they only intended to beat the guy bloody - is there a felony murder law in Scotland?) but still: that just doesn't seem doable. Or plausible. Or, fuck, justifiable. Cam seems like a good guy deep down; maybe he'll 'fess up?

I like this Shona. But I'm getting an uncomfortable feeling about how she's gonna figure in with Archie later. I mean, that was pretty specTACularly gay of him to go all possessive at the funeral, but with enough effort the outburst COULD be explained away as a close friend's concern; especially if he decides to duck back into the closet because he won't win Nichol back (HAHA! No.) & doesn't have other prospects...

God, I hope it really WAS a heart-attack or something else that took Harry quickly. Glad there was no autopsy - mostly because it's too soon in the story to investigate Cam - but also 1) he wouldn't want his body desecrated like that & 2) I'm not sure either of them could survive knowing he'd drowned...realizing they just didn't reach him quickly enough. Too much of a burden & they're bearing plenty of those already.

I think I bit through my lip waiting for Nichol to pull them up, to save them both. (*YAY* Ohmyfuckthankgod)

But I held my breath for most of the time they'd tried CPR on Harry; hoping, still knowing it futile, it might help anyway. Because, no.
