"The refuge of the English in all moments of stress - 'I'll put the kettle on, we'll have a nice cup of tea'." LOL. Considering all the British TV I watch and the books set in England I've wondered at this seemingly inane response to worry and danger and irritation and sadness - basically, ANY TIME extreme emotion threatens then it's time to get the kettle on.

Oh Jonty - I love you so. Orlando is your heart's desire and you ache for him but will not take advantage of him being naked and drunk. Consent is a real thing people, and it's important.

Awwww...Orlando. After having your life practically invaded and your world taken over I guess the vision of that empty seat - vacant for even one meal - would be enough to make you feel alone again.

Oh no...I hate that poor Jonty was abused that way. I need to do some sociological research to figure out why that is so common at boarding schools, in jail, in the military. I know it's possible to sublimate need/desire. We are not animals ruled by our base instincts. It's got to be power based...

Odd...two books in a row mentioned something revolving around Guy Fawkes. In "The Locker Room" Xander was contemplating "V for Vendetta" and how he would have been singled out for being so tall and gay. This one, it's a rape and murder (or series of them).

Nothing symbolic, or linking them (I don't think) but interesting that I chose to read two books set in different time periods that mentioned this same event.

LOL - Guy Fawkes Day seems to have lost its significance quite a long time ago. Shame that. Sort of how yule and All Hallows Eve have been appropriated for other uses and are simply excuses now for drunken revelry (or were absconded to celebrate a birth that didn't actually happen at that time).

What will Oliver do instead? As good as he is at 'reading people & situations' he'd make an excellent investigator himself. Maybe a PI?

"Robert would always be the man in control." Uh, no. Court is the man you've given YOUR control over to. No matter what that shitty movie and worse fanfic-turned horrible book series says -- THE SUB is ALWAYS the one with the power in a true BDSM situation. Otherwise, it's assault and you just don't know any better because you've been brainwashed by pop culture to think it's sexxxeh.

I think this chapter is trying to kill me. God, he almost blacked out...that's so dangerous. Both seem too inexperienced for this kind of play, for this level of edge straight out of the starting gate. Maybe there's an explanation for his knowledge of how to to that and not just some random choking to elicit a response...*crosses fingers*

Nope. No safeword or hand signal. Not cool. Breath play can be SO FUCKING HAWT but not if it's done without regards to safety.

Okay, another no. I love collars and leashes (probably for the ownership aspect, like the symbolism of wedding rings only kinky) but I draw the line at puppy play. Challenged myself to read it (yay!) but have absolutely no interest in exploring this more.

Humiliation. Yeah, no. That is one aspect of BDSM that is just not my cuppa. Doubt it ever will be. And this whole exchange might have been written to read like it was humiliation but it only made me laugh at the awkward.

Yes, it is indeed possible "to reach the pinnacle of release without ever being touched..." Provided it's done right, and the Dom is in tune to your needs. Or, you know, when you're just so horny it happens without direct stimulation.

HA! In regards to morality, God's law and man's law - well, I'm with Marsh on this.

"...much of what we're forced to swallow is utter poppycock. People pretend to know what is moral and right based on the Bible, an ancient tome with suspect beginnings and myriad possible interpretations."

Sounds EXACTLY like something I would say, honestly.

Okay, it was several pages back but I forgot to note it in my Kindle so I'm mentioning it now - that curate did seem really nervous and "Lily" reacted as is she were terrified of him...but I'm thinking that's too easy. Too neatly & easily investigated for this mystery, too quickly sewn up already. No, he might have been present, or had something to do with why she was wherever she got killed - but I'm not buying it.

LOL - in a previous update I commented on how integral the internet is now to sexual exploration, education and expression, humorously wondering what kids used before the days of the WWW. Well, I guess I got my answer!!!

How much do I love that Marsh chose "Firefly" to describe himself when it came to his intimate encounters? "Firefly was his own term for it because of that brief flash of bliss before darkness resumed." *swoons* Oh, I bet if someone mentioned it to Joss at the next Comic Con he'd be overjoyed to hear this. Truly.
