By this point I'd have solved the riddle already...or at least had a very strong suspicion of the culprit's identity. Not so this time around - I've got absolutely no clue. That's good! I like being surprised...

"He'd gone on to win the Nobel Prize for Mathematics, despite the fact that there wasn't one..." No, the highest acclaim for Mathematicians under 40 years of age would be the Fields Medal. (Thank you "Teen Wolf" - Lydia is a font of knowledge and I love her.) (Not as much as I love Derek though.)

"...they were doing something positive to try to lift the cloud hanging over their college..." TO TRY TO. To. Try. To. OMFG thank you. I'm so completely over all of the overusage of 'to try and.' *kisses book*

Hmmmm...debating the reason a murderer might return to leave a window open (and left it open at a previous murder scene)...well, since Orlando mentioned fingerprints I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess with some other early crime scene consideration: The cold makes the victims appear to have been dead longer, thus extending the alibi?

"The refuge of the English in all moments of stress - 'I'll put the kettle on, we'll have a nice cup of tea'." LOL. Considering all the British TV I watch and the books set in England I've wondered at this seemingly inane response to worry and danger and irritation and sadness - basically, ANY TIME extreme emotion threatens then it's time to get the kettle on.

Oh Jonty - I love you so. Orlando is your heart's desire and you ache for him but will not take advantage of him being naked and drunk. Consent is a real thing people, and it's important.

Awwww...Orlando. After having your life practically invaded and your world taken over I guess the vision of that empty seat - vacant for even one meal - would be enough to make you feel alone again.

Oh no...I hate that poor Jonty was abused that way. I need to do some sociological research to figure out why that is so common at boarding schools, in jail, in the military. I know it's possible to sublimate need/desire. We are not animals ruled by our base instincts. It's got to be power based...
