Amber Martingale It's your kind of thing if you like traditional swords-and-horses style fantasy.

Neil Amber wrote: "It's your kind of thing if you like traditional swords-and-horses style fantasy."

Maybe I'll keep it as a standby :o)

Or if you liked LOTR and the Hobbit or the Chronicles of Narnia.

message 154: by Neil (new)

Neil Ill keep them in mind as possibilities, maybe once I have finished the Dresden Files

message 155: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale I advise you to skip the one called GHOST STORY...slow as molasses in February.

message 156: by Neil (new)

Neil I'm reading book 12, Changes, at the moment

message 157: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale GHOST STORY is the one immediately following CHANGES.

message 158: by Neil (new)

Neil I might have to skim read it just for continuity then :o)

message 159: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Up to you but I think it's so slowly paced that even a skim takes forever.

message 160: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale I'm on Small Favor by the way.

message 161: by Neil (new)

Neil You are definitely right about Ghost Story. It is difficult to believe that they are written by the same person

message 162: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Even a good author has an off novel.

message 163: by Neil (new)

Neil I'm now on to Cold Days so hopefully the standard will be back to normal. More importantly how are you doing with your challenge?

message 164: by Amber (last edited Aug 06, 2021 10:06AM) (new)

Amber Martingale COLD DAYS is much better. As soon as it started, I kept hearing Aerosmith's "Back in the Saddle" in my head.

As for my own challenge, I finished three more.

message 165: by Neil (new)

Neil Well done and keep up the good work :o)

message 166: by Amber (last edited Jan 25, 2024 11:17AM) (new)

Amber Martingale Yeah. I keep forgetting the notebook I've been writing down the page numbers in.

message 167: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Finally remembered the damned notebook!

message 168: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Damn! 1-1/5th rows BEHIND schedule (6 books)!

message 169: by Neil (new)

Neil Just over 3 weeks to complete your challenge Amber, you CAN do it :)

message 170: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Thanks for the vote of confidence. *BG*

message 171: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Still 6 behind... .

message 172: by Neil (new)

Neil It's not over till the fat lady sings Amber ;o)

message 173: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Won't be THAT much longer until she DOES, Kris! *wink* And that makes me hear https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osX6F... by Xavi Aguilar. Xavi Aguilar's version s the SCARIEST version I've heard my entire life!

message 174: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Dammnit! 7 BEHIND!

message 175: by Neil (new)

Neil Keep on reading hun :o)

message 176: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale *growls like a hungry AND pissed off Mama bear awoken from hibernation wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too early... .*

Another 4 behind schedule!

message 177: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale *epic double facepalm* Accidentally deleted a 12th book! Gonna be as difficult to catch up as it is to wade through hip deep super chunky peanut butter... .

message 178: by Neil (new)

Neil Now there's a rather odd image to picture Amber. You don't do yourself any favours by accidentally deleting them instead of claiming them :o)

message 179: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale I know. And yes I knew the image that would be conjured up when I mentioned it would be interesting.

message 180: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Added 4 more to the list of finished books. Page 1.

message 181: by Neil (new)

Neil Keep it up less than two weeks to the year's end now so a big push is needed ;o)

message 182: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Down adjusted my goal. Forgot I could do that. *blush* Now it says "On track."

message 183: by Neil (new)

Neil Anything over what you have already read is astounding in my eyes. Just think so far your total is over a book a day, and that is no mean achievement. So well done to you and keep it up young lady :o)

message 184: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Thanks...and that's on top of the busyness of the holiday season... .

message 185: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Cool. 1 AHEAD... .

message 186: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale 3 ahead!

message 187: by Neil (new)

Neil Keep it up Amber :o)

message 188: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale 2 ahead and if I read 3 more by the time the library closes for New Year's, I will have exceeded my goal by at least one book!

message 189: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Seven books and if I finish them all soon, I will have exceeded by goal by 5.

message 190: by Neil (new)

Neil Amber wrote: "Seven books and if I finish them all soon, I will have exceeded by goal by 5."

I knew that I was right to have confidence in you Amber :o)

message 191: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Just need to finish one more by Wednesday and I will have met my goal... .

message 192: by Neil (new)

Neil Well done Amber and remember you would have passed your goal if you hadn't lost some information :o)

message 193: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale True.

message 194: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Neil wrote: "Amber wrote: "I just started reading FURIES OF CALDERON yesterday and I'm not sure if I like it. So far it's kinda slow."

I will be interested to hear your views on it as I have held off reading i..."

If I've answered this one already, go ahead and ignore. I ended up liking it enough that I've reread it several times in the past decade...plus I am on my SECOND personal copy. Got it as a Christmas present in '22.
