Finished Mapping Love, started and almost finished Old Man and the Sea, and started Wuthering Heights. :) Don' like to do 2 books at once, but didn't have the one with me.

message 1802: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ash88) Finished The Heretic's Daughter. The first half was slow but the last half was SO good! Its horrible what people went through in that time period... but I'd def. recommend the book

Started Everything Is Illuminated

I finished the Old Man and the Sea. I remember hating it in high school, but this time it was okay, not good, but not bad either. Hmmmm.....that may mean there are a lot more books I had better re-read. :)

message 1804: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ash88) Alright. I'm moving Rebecca up on my too-read list lol!

message 1805: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Me too!

message 1806: by Jules (new)

Jules (randomisedhabit) | 123 comments I'm currently reading The Pillars of the Earth, which thankfully, given the page count of the book, is so far quite a quick read - and the German translation isn't quite as horrible as I'd feared... :)

Rebecca is one my favorite books!

I'd also recommend My Cousin Rachel, also by the same author.

message 1809: by Jess (new)

Jess I finished reading Stieg Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo yesterday, which was absolutely fantastic. I really liked it! I had resisted reading it for a while because I thought it was overrated, but I decided to pick it up for the Spring/Summer Challenge.

I'm re-reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for the Challenge, though that's going to go slowly until I'm finished with Anthony Shadid's Night Draws Near. I'm not reading the Shadid book for the Challenge, but I have to finish it for class on Thursday.

message 1810: by Taya (new)

Taya (tayawoy) Over the weekend, I finished The Help which I really enjoyed! Following this, I picked up Love the One You're With, as a light fluffy read to get me ready for summer, and When Will There Be Good News? because I haven't read a good mystery in a while.

message 1811: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments I am really really really ashamed of myself...I had ten days of spring break and I didn't read a single thing.
So, I am still working on Sovereign Ladies: The Six Reigning Queens of England, about halfway through , in the section on Queen Victoria.

message 1812: by Annie (new)

Annie Hartman (anniebananie) | 242 comments This Common Secret: My Journey as an Abortion Doctor
Heavy, obviously. But I found it at Big Lots for $3 haha
And I am a women's studies minor. It's a pretty good read and relevant to my studies.

message 1813: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) Just got done reading "The Titan's Curse", the third installment of the Percy Jackson series. I am now reading the fourth installment, "The Battle of the Labyrinth".

Finished Wuthering Heights and hope to start A Clockwork Orange today.

message 1816: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I finished "So Hard To Say" by Alex Sanchez last night. It was a quick read for me. Started it yesterday morning, finished it last night at midnight. I am now going to read "Angels in the ER" by Robert D. Lesslie, MD.

message 1818: by Emily (new)

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments Just finished Cunt: A Declaration of Independence. This lady is hilarious. Love her.
I'm currently reading Beloved, Snow Crash, and Just After Sunset.

The title is just bold and in your face! I love it!

message 1820: by Jess (new)

Jess I'm currently reading Thomas Ricks' Fiasco (for class), Diana Abu-Jaber's Crescent (also for class), and M.F.K. Fisher's The Gastronomical Me (for fun and the Spring/Summer challenge). Oh, and I'm also slowing re-reading Harry Potter, Book 4. I'm counting the two books for class since I'm actually reading them (not skimming) and enjoying both of them. Do you count school books? I wouldn't count academic books (scholarly literature) but I would count novels and/or popular books found at B&N or Borders, if I read them. That being said, I don't include all books read for school. It's a weird decision-making process.

message 1821: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (maraudingstevie) I just finished The Hobbit: Or There and Back Again and I'm about 3/4 of the way done with The Third Policeman. I had to read both for school [The Third Policeman has to be finished by 2pm this afternoon -- so close!:], and then I'm reading The Giver, Monster, and Night for one class and The Playboy of the Western World and Other Plays: Riders to the Sea; The Shadow of the Glen; The Tinker's Wedding; The Well of the Saints; The Playboy ... of the Sorrows for another class, and Grendel for yet another class.

I'm taking way too many literature classes -- they're taking up all my reading time!! :P
But at least it's all really good books. :D

Trying to get some reading time in. I started A Clockwork Orange a few days ago but have only had a few minutes here and a few there. Has anyone else read this? It is interesting so far, but I find the wording hard to understand. I saw the length and thought it would be a really quick read. Wrong. :) Oh well......

message 1823: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments Just finished Northanger Abbey, I didn't like it as much as Austen's other books. I felt the heroine was too clueless and the ending seemed a bit rushed. Am now onto Uglies since I've heard good thinks about it here and it's on my Challenge list.

message 1824: by Emily (new)

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments I just bought, and am currently reading, The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution, by Richard Dawkins. I've been wanting to buy this book since it came out and I am totally excited. Just a little FYI: this book is not anti-religious. He says so right in the first chapter, and collaborates with bishops, etc, in the book and in his points. It is very anti-creationism, but not anti-religious, so if you're worried about that and don't want to read it for that reason, I wouldn't worry too much. He's done the anti-religion thing in other books, and he doesn't need to do it here, for fear of driving readers away from the very important point he's trying to make.

message 1825: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I've been rereading the Fablehaven series. The last book in the series is being released on Tuesday, I'm so excited!

message 1826: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (amazingact21) I just began The Secret of Lost Things. I thought I'd fly through it, but for some reason I'm having a hard time getting into it. I'm hoping it starts picking up in a little while.

message 1827: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I finished The Bridges of Madison County this afternoon. It wasn't absolutely fantastic, but I'm glad I read it. There are a few quotes I need to write down to remember. I'm going to read The Bell Jar next.

message 1828: by Jess (new)

Jess Just finished reading Thomas Ricks' Fiasco! Right now taking a break from Harry Potter to read Susan Wiggs' Just Breathe (borrowed from my mom) and start on Thomas Ricks' The Gamble.

message 1829: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I finished The Bell Jar yesterday. It took me less than 24 hours to finish. I really enjoyed it the second time around. Having read from her journals around the time this book was based on, it made a lot of sense. The images and language were hauntingly beautiful. And, despite its weighty topic, sometimes I couldn't help but laugh a little.

Now I'm reading The Annotated Lolita: Revised and Updated, which someone lent to me. I'm pretty excited. The endnotes are really interesting if a bit lengthy at times.

message 1830: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I just finished "Angels in the ER" by Robert Lesslie. I am now going to continue with "The Battle of the Labyrinth" by Rick Riordan and start reading "Hush,Hush" by Becca Fitzpatrick

message 1831: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments Katherine by Anya Seton.
This book has been on my to-read list the longest. In fact, last summer I was searching online for this book when I came across goodreads!

message 1832: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) Finished reading "The Battle of the Labyrinth". I am now reading "The Last Olympian" , the final book of the Percy Jackson series. I will also be reading "Hush,Hush" by Becca Fitzpatrick.

message 1833: by Emily (last edited Mar 28, 2010 03:40PM) (new)

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments Just finished The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution. Whew! I already knew most of the things he talked about in this book, but there were some great experiments in here that he talked about that I had never heard of but which were really interesting. And the footnotes were great. He's no Carl Sagan, but still an enjoyable book.

I'm still reading Beloved, Just After Sunset, and Snow Crash. After I'm done with those it's Lolita, The Giver, and Her Fearful Symmetry.

message 1834: by Mafe (new)

Mafe (bklv89) Just finished reading Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Foer and found it to be and extremely fantastic and incredibly good book, want to read his next book, but now i'm starting a book on leprosy.

message 1835: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) what leprosy book are you starting?

message 1836: by Mafe (new)

Mafe (bklv89) A Disease Apart: Leprosy in the Modern World by Tony Gould...some early research I'm doing for a research paper i'm doing...quite an easy read geared for the general public and then i'm going to the heavy stuff...which i'm kind of dreading.

message 1837: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) I'll have to look into it, leprosy fascinates me.

message 1838: by Jen (new)

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments I haven't read it but Moloka'i is a historical fiction book about a girl in Hawaii who has leprosy.

message 1839: by Mafe (new)

Mafe (bklv89) If you want i can post/email you my bibliography from what research i've done.Let me know if you're interested .

message 1840: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) Couldn't hurt because even though I have plenty of books on my TBR list i am always looking for more...message me if it would be easier than posting in the thread.

I loved Moloka'i. I think my leprosy fascination is really just an off shoot of my black plague interest.

message 1841: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Good to know that I'm not the only one who has a fascination with stuff like that. I'll have to check those books out.

Isn't it wierd how people think because you find something disturbing facinating, that means you are disturbed?

Our family really is into Halloween. Scary halloween, not the funny or cutsie stuff. People think we are a really dark family and there must be something "off" with us.

message 1843: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ash88) Just finished Everything Is Illuminated finially! really liked it, not as much as Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close though.

Starting The Executor

message 1844: by Annie (new)

Annie Hartman (anniebananie) | 242 comments The Bell Jar it's odd but I like it :)

message 1845: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Right now I'm reading The Age of Innocence for class. I'm actually liking it so far. Or, at least, it's been a quick read so far. I'd like to make time to read Lolita and get that finished. And I'm supposed to be reading Out of Africa with a few friends right now.

message 1846: by Jess (new)

Jess I gave up on As I Lay Dying. It just wasn't as interesting as Light in August was, and so I dropped it off at my school's library 'free book' section.

I'm currently reading Diana Abu-Jaber's Crescent for class and for fun.

message 1847: by Emily (new)

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments Just finished Just After Sunset.
I'm about half way through Beloved and pathetically small bit of the way through Snow Crash. I should start Lolita soon...

Finished The Memory Keepers Daughter. It was a good book, but I wanted so much to reach in and slap the dad silly. Then the mom. Then Caroline. UGH! A bunch of really ignorant people when it came to lifes relationships. Has anyone else read it?

message 1849: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) I read it a few years ago and completely agree. It is interesting how one decision completely altered the lives of so many.

message 1850: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments I read it recently too. I didn't really like it...mainly because the mom drove me nuts with her whining. The premise and idea was so interesting though!
