Just finished Catch 22, and am starting the goodreads giveaway The Pirate Vortex. Looks a bit cheesy but we will see.

Finished the Pirate Vortex, and on to The Lightening Theif.

Want to read it before the movie comes out, but have a nagging feeling I will have to read all 5 in order and that will mess up my other planned reads. :)

Daisy | 686 comments Just finished Daughter of the Blood. I liked it, but it was also really disturbing with all the child abuse and men being sexually abused and dominated by women (not that I think men should be in charge, but it was all so cruel). But I'm still on to the sequel Heir to the Shadows. Not finishing a series is really hard on me.

I was right, now I have to finish the Percy Jackson series before I can start anything else. I did finish books 1-3 over the weekend, and am about half way through 4, so maybe tonight or tomorrow. :)

message 1705: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (amazingact21) It's really difficult for me to take breaks between books in a series, so I understand where you're coming from, Tami.

I just finished Brave New World and was surprised by it. Normally, I don't like those kind of distopia novels, but this one I enjoyed a lot.

message 1706: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I started "By The Time You Read This, I'll Be Dead" this morning and finished it just now. It was a great and intense read. The author leaves the readers hanging in the end.

I gonna continue with the other books I'm reading.

message 1707: by Jess (new)

Jess I just started reading Mother of the Believers: A Novel of the Birth of Islam, which finally came in on InterLibrary Loan. It got a great review on Muslimah Media Watch, and so far it's proving to be interesting, well-written, and historically accurate.

message 1708: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) I just finished On Beauty by Zadie Smith. I was a little disappointed with it. I felt like it was too long for what it was. I just started Between The Tides by Patti Callahan Henry which has piqued my interest so far (only 30 pages in).
I've also been reading In Cold Blood for about a month now. I'm having a hard time getting motivated to pick it back up.

(is the add book/author feature not working for anybody else right now? it's driving me crazy!)

message 1709: by Annie (new)

Annie Hartman (anniebananie) | 242 comments So I've seen a lot about The Perks of Being a Wallflower in many of your profiles. So I decided to read it. And I really liked it! It was different but it was a quick read and definitely a good choice :)

message 1710: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Annie, yay! It's one of my favorites.

message 1711: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin I just finished:
From Dead to Worse
The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls (awesome book)
Because I like reading more than one book at a time...

I'm currently reading:
Wuthering Heights and I will soon find a second book to read...

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments Right now I am reading Disney at Dawn, cute book. If you've ever been to Disney World you'll love this book. I'm also rereading (well listening) to Sabriel. Tim Curry narrates it, amazing!

message 1713: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments I just finished Heir to the Shadows and I liked this much better than the first one, so I'll be on to the third book later today. Am also rereading The Hunger Games, I love that book so much!

message 1714: by Bárbara (new)

Bárbara (leviathan_) I finished The Time Machine by HG Wells yesterday, now reading The Virgin Suicides!

message 1715: by Taya (new)

Taya (tayawoy) I just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo this past weekend and really enjoyed it. I've since started Anna Karenina...looks like its going to be a long read! We'll see how it goes!

message 1716: by Jess (new)

Jess Taya, good luck with Anna Karenina! I hear it's great, though I also have yet to read it.

Still working through Kamran Pasha's Mother of the Believers: A Novel of the Birth of Islam, though I also just started Matthew Crawford's Shop Class as Soulcraft: An Inquiry Into the Value of Work, which is very good so far.

message 1717: by Bianca (new)

Bianca (sugardustedbooks) Just finished Queen of Babble gets hitched. Now I really need to finish reading Angels and Demons since Ive already started it.

message 1718: by Katerina (new)

Katerina | 252 comments Just started reading The Virgin Suicides for our group read.

Bianca--How are the Queen of Babble books?

message 1719: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Taya, you must read the Girl Who Played With Fire too.

Finished the last of the Percy Jackson series and started Her Fearful Symetry Saturday. So far, really enjoying it.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 4407 comments Mod
Tami--Did you see that the Percy Jackson series is a movie? I've never read any of them but I recognized the name from the movie trailer.

message 1721: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
Yes, that is why I had to read them. I have a hard time reading books after the movie. They were great. Not the level of Harry Potter, but really exciting, adventurous, and lots of fun "monsters" and different characters. I love Tyson in book 2. A bit predictable, but maybe just for me. I have an annoying habit of figuring things out way too early.

message 1722: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments Finished Queen of the Darkness yesterday, loved it way more than the first two, now on to Dreams Made Flesh and then I'm done with the series.

message 1723: by Bianca (new)

Bianca (sugardustedbooks) Katerina wrote: "Just started reading The Virgin Suicides for our group read.

Bianca--How are the Queen of Babble books?"

In my opinion they were good. I read them all pretty fast.

message 1724: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (amazingact21) Just finished reading Sunday's at Tifany's by James Patterson. I've never read one of his books before, and I loved the storyline in this. However, I really disliked the book. Normally, I'm pretty easy to please but that book was unemotional and lacking any in-depth writing skills.

So now I'm moving onto Robinson Crusoe.

message 1725: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 279 comments I just finished Her Fearful Symmetry, I did enjoy it. I think I am going to read the third Percy Jackson book next. I really haven't decided though, Im not sure what I want to read.

message 1726: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) I finally finished In Cold Blood. For some reason I just couldn't get into it until close to the end, and it took me over a month to read it.
I'm just about to start The Lightning Thief. Despite all the recent hype with the movie coming out soon, I really have no idea what this series is about. I'm also about halfway through The Pieces from Berlin which I'm finding kind of boring.

message 1727: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 279 comments Heather I hope that you enjoy the Lightening Thief. I really enjoyed the first two books and I have the third and fourth waiting for me to read.

message 1728: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin I just finished:
Dead and Gone
Wuthering Heights

I just started:
Sybil: The True and Extraordinary Story of a Woman Possessed By Sixteen Separate Personalities
The Joy Luck Club

Because I'm cool like that... and need to read two things at once... I don't really know why though.

message 1729: by Emily (new)

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments I am currently reading Angels & Insects: Two Novellas, and it is amazing. I've finished the first novella, and it was really surprising. It didn't go where I expected it to go at all. I absolutely love her writing style. She wrote one of my favorite books, Possession: A Romance.

I'm hoping to start Her Fearful Symmetry soon, seeing as it's a group read and all.

message 1730: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (kellieag) Right now I'm reading The Sum of Our Days: A Memoir and Catching Fire.

Tahleen Emily wrote: "I am currently reading Angels & Insects: Two Novellas, and it is amazing. I've finished the first novella, and it was really surprising. It didn't go where I expected it to go at all...."

I read the first novella in that for a class. I thought it was great, I really liked it.

Just finished Under The Tuscan sun..kinda hard to get through. Loved her descriptions of Italy and it made me want to go back but it was kind of boring.

Now on to The Great Santini

message 1733: by Jess (new)

Jess Jamie, I also thought Under the Tuscan Sun was hard to get into. Frances Mayer has great descriptions of things, but her overall writing style is kind of weird.

I couldn't get into Matthew Crawford's Shop Class as Soulcraft, so I gave up and returned it to the library. I started reading Kathy Reichs' Déjà Dead for fun, and I'm reading Elizabeth Erlich's Miriam's Kitchen: A Memoir for class.

message 1734: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments I only have two chapters left in Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia...I got really bored with the book after she left Italy. I'm glad to be almost done.
I think I will start Hard Times by Charles Dickens after that....get back to the classics :)

message 1735: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) I am about to finish The Book Thief and love it. I have no idea why it took me so long to pick this up but I am glad I finally did.

I just finished it yesterday and loved it. I can't decide which book I liked better. Now I can't wait for Mockingjay!

message 1737: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments I just finished A Walk to Remember. Really cute, but made me a little sad.

Me too! It seems like August is a long ways away. At least it's not as long of a wait as the Harry Potter books were!

I finally got around to starting She's Come Undone. So far an interesting enough story and I am enjoying most of the characters/story. But I think I am going to hate the main character any minute. We'll have to see.

message 1740: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I'm reading Jane Eyre and loving it! I can't believe I haven't read it until now.

I currently have nothing to read and am debating on starting that...hmm. I've been putting it off for a long time. Let us know how it goes!

message 1742: by Tami (new)

Tami | 3103 comments Mod
I will. Only on page 130 or so. We'll see.

message 1743: by D (new)

D I finished The Poisonwood Bible and started The Hunger Games, which I'm loving.

message 1744: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Just finished Incarceron. Not my favorite, but not bad either. I will probably read the sequel when it comes out.

message 1745: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) I'm still reading The Lightning Thief in my down time at work (which there doesn't seem to be much of lately). I just finished Dear Diary which was a quick read but the author really got on my nerves. And finally, this morning I started Case Histories: A Novel which has been sitting on my bookshelf for so long! It seems pretty interesting so far- anyone read this?

How's The Lightning Thief? I think I'm going to give it a try.

message 1747: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) Jamie, it's pretty good so far. Pretty quick reading and lots of action.

message 1748: by Ashley (last edited Feb 20, 2010 11:32AM) (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I finished reading "The Water is Wide" by Pat Conroy for my Human Development Course. I have to read another book for that class, it's called "Passing" by Nella Larsen.

Once my quarter is over I will be able to get back to my original reading agenda.

message 1749: by Daisy (new)
