Started The Lightning Thief today and finished it in one go, I loved it! It's rekindling my addiction to Greek mythology. After I finish In Lucia's Eyes I'm definitely reading the rest of the series!

I finished She's Come Undone and started Breathless. Still don't like the main character in Undone but it was a decent book. Breathless is going by really fast.
I just finished reading Miriam's Kitchen, and I'm starting Mark Kurlansky's The Food of a Younger Land.
After a few days of not reading anything at all (!), I have started Sovereign Ladies: The Six Reigning Queens of England. I am so excited!
I just began Heath. I've loved Heath Ledger's acting career, and I'm interested to see what this novel entails.

I just finished In Lucia's Eyes and loved it! (even though it didn't have a happy ending) Fiction mixed with reality about a woman who loved Casanova. The author is Dutch, probably a small chance, but has anybody read it? (I don't even know if it's on sale anywhere but in Holland..)Anyway, I'm on to The Sea of Monsters.
I've been abandoning books left and right lately, including Deja Dead and The Food of a Younger Land. However, I did finish Jennifer Cruisie's The Cinderella Deal for a relaxing read, as well as Mary Oliver's Why I Wake Early. Right now I'm reading Dara Horn's The World to Come.
I'm reading Mere Christianity right now... I'm not really enjoying it, it seems really gendered and closed-minded to me, but I'm reading it for a friend. Has anyone else read it here?

I've been feeling like that lately too Jess! I just keep abandoning books. I'm hoping that I'm over this little slump of mine!
Me too, Jamie! I want to be done with the slump before the spring/summer challenge starts, too; I hate changing my mind endless times and abandoning a whole bunch of books.Tahleen, I read Mere Christianity on a whim, a few years back. I didn't like it very much either, and I agree with what you said. I know others who found it to be illuminating and life-changing, though.
Jess, I'm glad you felt the same way! I am actually reading it because my friend said it changed his life, and is his favorite nonfiction book. Maybe I won't tell him I read it, unless he asks...
Tahleen wrote: "Emily wrote: "I am currently reading Angels & Insects: Two Novellas, and it is amazing. I've finished the first novella, and it was really surprising. It didn't go where I expected it..."Yeah, the first one was awesome. The second one I didn't like so much. Something about the way it was written just didn't work for me.
I'm trying to finish The Thorn Birds by the end of the month because I haven't finished any pleasure reads since school started. If I'm going to read over 52 books this year, I need to get a move on.
Tami wrote: "That was my favorite of the series Daisy. Hope you enjoy."I really did :) I loved Tyson ('Bad cow!' I laughed so hard!).
I'm in a reading rut, as well. I am about to abandon the two books I'm in the middle of. I hope whatever I decide to pick up tomorrow doesn't disappoint!I have also read Mere Christianity. I didn't expect to like it, being an atheist, but I also was surprised by some things since it's held in such high regard by many people I've talked to. I found it to be sexist, homophobic/heteronormative, and racist. Additionally, his main argument is completely flawed, as it makes huge jumps in logic and ignores many relevant counter-points.
Tahleen wrote: "Whoop whoop, go Lori!"I appreciate your enthusiasm. I hope it rubs off on me because I'm having a hard time right now forcing myself to sit down and read The Thorn Birds and not some other book.
I just finished What Narcissism Means to Me: Poems by Tony Hoagland, a poet who came to read at my school recently. He was so amazing in person, just absolutely hilarious and beautiful.I found a few videos on youtube of his readings that don't do justice to the ones I saw, but are still great.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hwsmg...

I also finished reading The Sum of Our Days: A Memoir. Is anyone here an Allende fan? I'm interested in reading more of her work now that I've read the memoir.
Finally finished Mere Christianity, and also Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret in between chapters of the former. I'm going to start Life As We Knew It next--I have to stop going to the library haha.
How did you like the Historian? It's on my to read list (but so are a lot of other books so I'm kind of hoping you either hated or loved it :) )
Her Fearful Symmetry-- loved it! I'm about half way through Marla's Truth: The Autobiography of Marla Del Marr. Basically the story of Marla Del Marr and how she self destructed. Pretty interesting.
Just finished Life As We Knew It. I have never felt more grateful for my life than during/after I read this book. It's very good, I totally recommend it.
I finally finished "Tricks" by Ellen Hopkins. I am now reading "The Sea of Monsters" by Rick Riordan.
Just finished "The Sea of Monsters" last night. I finished that book in 2 days. I am now going on to the thrid installment, "The Titan's Curse".
Just finishedThe Djinn in the Nightingale's Eye.It's sort of cute. I'd say it's worth the read if you like fairytales of a relatively traditional type. I had already read two of the stories, as they are in Possession.
Stardust
Not bad. The movie was better. It only took me a few hours to read, but I'm not really sure it was worth the time. The ending was lame.
The Inner Game of Tennis
Boring as all get out, but it has helped me with my oboe playing. I had to read it for class.
Because God Is Real: Sixteen Questions, One Answer
Utter tripe. It's a thinly veiled book of Catholic theology. It should be titled "Because Catholicism is Better: 16 Questions, One Answer." I only spends like five pages trying (vainly) to prove that God exists. I was expecting a more interesting read. Not to mention all the usual sexist/homophobic/hetero-normative bull that can be expected of most Catholic texts. And on top of it all, the author talks to you like you're a mentally challenged five year old. In short, this may be the worst book I've ever read.
Currently Reading:Beloved
Snow Crash
The Star Thrower
To Kill a Mockingbird
I'm hoping to finish all of these (except maybe Snow Crash, it's long) over Spring Break.
Finished The Last Olympian last night. I loved the whole series! I seriously recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy. And now for something completely different I started The Lady Elizabeth
Emily wrote: "Not to mention all the usual sexist/homophobic/hetero-normative bull that can be expected of any Catholic text."That's an offensive (and generalized) statement.
Emily wrote: "StardustNot bad. The movie was better. It only took me a few hours to read, but I'm not really sure it was worth the time. The ending was lame."
I completely agree! It's rare when I like a movie better, but I just didn't like the book as much. And the ending... ugh.
Anna wrote: "Just finished A Woman in Berlin: Eight Weeks in the Conquered City: A Diary. I'm speechless..."What did you think about it? I'm on a huge nonfiction kick and am reading everything I can get my hands on.
I'm so excited I finished The Sound and the Fury! I'm mainly excited because I haven't finished anything since before the semester started. The book was pretty difficult to follow because of the narrators--one is mentally handicapped and one is deranged. I cracked and read the Wikipedia page about the book, which ruined the plot, but I wouldn't really have understood what was happening if I hadn't.
Ashley, do you like The Heretic's daughter so far? It's been on my to-read list for a little while now; I just wasn't sure if I would really like it.I'm reading The Silence of the Lambs right now, and it's already pretty creepy.

Just finished Catching FireWhich I thought was just as good as the first one! Now I'm reading Red Glass
Finished Count of Monte Cristo and started Mapping of Love and Death. Goodreads giveaway. and so far a really good read.
Just finished To Kill a Mockingbird. That book is so good. I think I got even more out of it this time than I did back in the 8th grade.

So far I like it, but I'm halfway through and still waiting for something to happen. I'll let you know what I think of it when I'm done :)
I'm currently reading Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain, which is really good. I love it... I'm surprised I can actually understand it... there is a lot of neurology in it.I finished The Van Alen Legacy last week.
And I realize that is totally random, genre-wise.
<3
I'm currently reading The Forest of Hands and Teeth which I'm kind of having a hard time getting into. I'm also just about done with Things Fall Apart. I feel like I'm in a reading rut right now. I'm just not reading much that I'm finding very enjoyable.
