Daisy | 686 comments I loved the Historian, haven't read Swan Thieves though, so I don't know how it compares.

message 1952: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I finished reading Bliss by Lauren Myracle yesterday. I am now reading "Love, Ellen : A Mother/Daughter Journey" by Betty DeGeneres. I am also continuing with "Between Sisters" by Kristin Hannah.

Alyssa It's the summer and I've finally started on my reading list! "The Invisible Heart" by Russell Roberts and tis is quite interesting.

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) Alyssa wrote: "It's the summer and I've finally started on my reading list! "The Invisible Heart" by Russell Roberts and tis is quite interesting."

Isn't that such a great feeling? I have been fully immersing myself in my books since Tuesday after coming home!

message 1955: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I'm currently reading 2 books right now--The Once and Future King and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream. I'm not terribly far into either of them, but they've been quick reads so far and I love them both. They different enough to where if I feel the need for something different, I pick up the other book.

message 1956: by D (new)

D Right now I'm reading (and loving) Unwind. Up next is Small Island by Andrea Levy.

message 1957: by Jessika (new)

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) I just finished The Shining. I'm very creeped out at the moment! lol

message 1958: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (morgasbord) Right now I'm reading Life of Pi and The Empty Space: A Book About the Theatre: Deadly, Holy, Rough, Immediate. I've read The Empty Space at various points in the past year, and I feel like I still have so much to absorb from it, which is why I'm rereading it.

I'm sort of in love with Life of Pi right now. I can see why one of my friends has it as one of his favorites.

message 1959: by Rachael (new)

Rachael (decemberparis) I am in the middle of "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius". It's turning out to be a lot different that I expected, both for good and bad. The book I just finished was "The Age of Grief", which I loved!!

message 1960: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) I just finished Those Who Save Us which really got to me. I'm currently reading The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao... it's much different than I was expecting. I can't decide if I like it or not (probably not a good thing since I'm halfway through). I also just started The Book of Laughter and Forgetting.

message 1961: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I just finished "Love, Ellen" by Betty DeGeneres. I am going to continue with "Between Sisters" by Kristin Hannah and get that book done.

message 1962: by Jessika (new)

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) Yesterday, I started Frost: Poems, which is a collection of Robert Frost's poetry. I love immersing myself in it so incredibly much. I'm not sure what it is about him, but he's definitely my favorite poet.

I'm also reading The Bell Witch: An American Haunting by Brent Monahan, and Stephen King's Rage, which since it's out of print, I'm reading in The Bachman Books.

message 1963: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (kellieag) I just finished Looking for Alaska which I loved. I'm now reading I Will Carry You: The Sacred Dance of Grief and Joy on my new nook!

message 1964: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 308 comments I just finished The Book Thief. It's so wonderful ,and I loved it very much!! Now I think I need a girly book perhaps Good in Bed

message 1965: by Jess (new)

Jess I'm currently reading three very different books—Timothy Ferriss' The 4-Hour Workweek, Expanded and Updated: Expanded and Updated, With Over 100 New Pages of Cutting-Edge Content., Edward Hirsch's The Living Fire (a book of modern American poetry), and Batya Gur's The Saturday Morning Murder: A Psychoanalytic Case. I'm liking all of them!

message 1966: by Meg (new)

Meg (aurawn) | 44 comments I've been on a Stephen King kick lately -- I'm 75% of the way through 'Salem's Lot right now and loving it. Next up is another Stephen King - The Stand - and then probably The Story of Edgar Sawtelle.

I just read 'Salem's Lot recently and loved it, as well. I highly recommend The Shining if you haven't read that yet. I've been on a Stephen King kick, too, as I'm trying to read all of his books!

message 1968: by Jen (new)

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments Last night I finished reading Saving Ceecee Honeycutt and this afternoon I finally finished A Good Man Is Hard to Find and Other Stories. Now I'm starting Fahrenheit 451 and The Happiness Project.

message 1969: by Jess (new)

Jess Jen, let me know what you think of Gretchen Rubin's book. I used to read her blog quite often, and I read the book last month!

message 1970: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Jess I saw that you read Hungry in another thread but thought this would be a more appropriate place to ask--how was it? I want to read it.

message 1971: by Jess (new)

Jess Tahleen wrote: "Jess I saw that you read Hungry in another thread but thought this would be a more appropriate place to ask--how was it? I want to read it."

Tahleen, it was a decent read. It will probably take you an hour and a half or two hours to read, because it's pretty straight-forward. I wouldn't say it was the best book I've ever read—certainly not the best memoir—but of books on eating disorders and body image, it's one of the better ones (in my opinion). It's worth a look at the library, but not worth buying.

message 1972: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen Thanks! I do think I'll try to find a copy, but I definitely won't buy it.

Finished Tale of Two Cities and started Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. So far, pretty fun.

message 1974: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Newman | 2 comments How the heck do you guys find time to read?!?!? I am working 55 hours a week and taking only 6 credit hours and broke and unable to find time to sit and drink tea. I finally checked email besides to check for teachers responses. Does anyone have any suggestions for books to read for time management or anything?

message 1975: by Jess (new)

Jess Benjamin, maybe try David Allen's Getting Things Done. Also, you work 55 hours a week! Cut yourself a break. :)

message 1976: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Newman | 2 comments thanks Jess! i'll look into that :)

message 1977: by Laura (new)

Laura (thatlibrarianlady) I just finished The Time Traveler's Wife. It was amazing. I love it. The characters were just so complex and real.

message 1978: by Meg (new)

Meg (aurawn) | 44 comments Jess, I read The Shining just before 'Salem's Lot. Great book! I am, however, apparently a lying liar who lies, because The Stand is still sitting on my 'to-read' pile while I tear through The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. I was on the wait list at the library and it just became available 2 days ago. I haven't been able to put it down! I'm also working on Sovereign Ladies: The Six Reigning Queens of England and am enjoying it. The Stand will be next!

message 1979: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Over the weekend I finished Little House in the Big Woods and Little House on the Prairie, both of which I read when I was about 8. I haven't read the rest of the series though. I'm thinking that for the rest of the summer, I'll read Little House (and other prairie/pioneer related ones) and won't go on the computer. There was something so nice about not being on the computer all weekend. I've also been reading Under the Tuscan Sun and The Sun Also Rises pretty much like gangbusters. I don't understand how I can be so far in both of those already.

message 1980: by Jess (new)

Jess Lori, I love the Little House series! I reread Little House in the Big Woods last summer, and I'm hoping to reread more of the series after I get farther into the Spring/Summer Challenge.

I've been on a mystery reading spree! I'm making my way through Blaize Clement's awesome series, and I'm still reading Batya Gur's first Michael Ohayon book.

I finished Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and really liked it. It was nothing like I thought it was going to be. The author wrote it as a biography created from journals Abraham Lincoln had written. :) Quite a fun read.

Now, started my latest Goodreads Giveaway, Love is Monumental by Annalisa Daughety.

message 1982: by Dennis (new)

Dennis (dearzage) This weekend, I finished Nine Stories by Salinger and Looking for Alaska by John Green. Now I'm starting Infinite Jest by david foster wallace :)

Shadazz Morgan wrote: "Right now I'm reading Life of Pi and The Empty Space: A Book About the Theatre: Deadly, Holy, Rough, Immediate. I've read The Empty Space at various points in the past year..."

This post is almost ten days old, but I read the Deadly theater chapter, early this semestre and I liked it both as a text for school and as piece of writing. I'm taking this class "Analysis of dramatic text" My favourite class this year.

message 1984: by Shadazz (new)

Shadazz And right now I'm reading The Savage Detectives by Roberto Bolaño. It's so good, it's so fun, after you pass the light porn and you acknolewdge that this are bookish guys a là Kerouac.

message 1985: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments I finally finished Anna Karenina after three weeks of reading! (I don't normally take that long, no matter how many pages it has) The writing was beautiful, but it was just really slow.. And I thought Anna resembled a person with borderline personality disorder, but that could just be me slapping on medical labels.

Am no onto a much lighter read: Other Side of the Story, The

message 1986: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Daisy, It took me a year to finish because I had to put it down for several months. But I was determined to finish before my 22nd birthday (and I did). I loved Anna. I really got into her character and felt what she was feeling. I almost started crying at times and I'd get breathless while flipping the pages. I'm so glad I read it.

I can't remember if I ever read Little House books but when I was younger I would always fantasize about being with out modern conveniences. My brother got really annoyed at me because I always ecstatic when then power went out.

Everyone reading Anna K. has made me really want to tackle it. I think it will be my next kindle book after the Hornets Nest, because I have a feeling it will be much easier to read without the weight of 800+ pages.

message 1988: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Annashu, My advice for getting through Anna K is to skim the political, agricultural, and religious sermons that Tolstoy writes. You'll get the gist of them and total comprehension is not integral to the plot.

message 1989: by R (new)

R (feste) I've always been slightly intimidated by Russian classics because of their length, but I've just finished Crime and Punishment and LOVED it... Reading these comments, I feel like I might take a stab at Anna Karenina too. Maybe after a couple of lighter reads.

I'm now reading The Story of Sushi by Trevor Corson. It's OK, but I find the language a bit frustrating. I mean, there are a lot of silly turns of phrase like "yeasts eat sugar and pee alcohol".

message 1990: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I finished reading Magyk last night. I am now reading Flyte. I will also be continuing with a couple of other books I got going.

message 1991: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker R, I felt the same way after I finished Anna K. I definitely wanted to read other Russian novels, like Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, but I felt I needed a break before my brain could handle it. I'm thinking maybe one Russian every year or two is good.

I finished Love is Monumental, my latest Goodreads Giveaway, and have so far resisted the book store to pick up Hornets Nest. Funny side story for Love is Monumental: I had just finished Abe Lincoln Vampire Hunter and half of Love is also about Abe. Don't beleive he will be mentioned in Hornets Nest.

I have Anna on my ereader so maybe I should start it soon too.

message 1993: by Jen (new)

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) | 696 comments Jess- So far I like The Happiness Project! I kind of skimmed over the chapters on marriage and parenthood, but I'm enjoying the rest of the book.

Margaret- How do you like The Immortal Life Of Henrietta Lacks? I'm on the wait list at the library.

Tami- I'm so tempted to go to B&N to buy The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest. I know I won't be able to start it until the weekend but I just want it in my hands!

I think I'm going to try and read Anna Karenina this summer. It's just been sitting on my bookshelf waiting to be read, but I think the size of it scares me!

message 1994: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I have Anna Karenina also sitting on my shelf. I need to read that book .But there a bunch of others I want to read first.

message 1995: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker I finished The Sun Also Rises a few minutes ago. Loved it! Now I want to move to Europe and be an expatriate journalist.

Well.....I got it. Am going to start Hornet's Nest as soon as I am off work. Left in the car to keep me honest. :)

message 1997: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments I absolutely loved Anna Karenina. It's one of my favorites and surprisingly didn't take me that long to read.

While on vacation during the past 10 days, I started and finished Atonement and The Year 1000: What Life Was Like at the Turn of the First Millennium and am working on The Winthrop Woman: A Novel.

I finished it yesterday, and I loved it. I'm usually not much of a non-fiction person but this book flew by and was very interesting, keeping me totally absorbed.

I'm working on Stephen King's The Stand now, and have to read it quick -- it's due back to the library on Friday!

message 2000: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) Just started The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest and am loving it of course. Can't believe I actually pried myself away from it to check on the internet world but I had to reply to an e-mail.
