I thought I could use it for the challenge for the opposite view thing. I thought the fathers decision would have been the main theme of the story, but since it really wasn't carried out that way.....I don't think it will work.

Jean Valjean (OG 2010) (courfeyrack) I've been trudging through the Sookie Stackhouse novels because my sister and mom are so engrossed in them. This way I can at least understand what they're talking about. BUT I'm also currently reading Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang for my own enjoyment. =]

message 1853: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I finished reading "Crank" by Ellen Hopkins last night. I am going to start "Glass". I am going to contnue with "The Last Olympian" by Rick Riordan.

message 1854: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (ash88) Just finished my first First reads book I won, The Executor. Not at all what I expected... but I liked it, in a weird way.

Now starting Thirteen Reasons Why

message 1855: by Jess (new)

Jess I finished reading Diana Abu-Jaber's Crescent yesterday, which was fantastic. I also started and finished Susan Wiggs' Summer by the Sea today, which was a decent quick read.

Now I'm a few pages into Victor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning, which came to me highly recommended by quite a few people, so I'm excited to read it.

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I'm reading The Lightning Thiefon my nook, really enjoying it so far!

message 1857: by Emily (new)

Emily O (readingwhilefemale) | 487 comments I just finished Beloved! I started it forever ago, but I didn't have much time to read so it's taken me a long time to finish. It was well worth the time spent.
Now onward to Her Fearful Symmetry, Lolita, and The Giver. (and Snow Crash if I can remember to pick back up on that)

message 1859: by Heather (new)

Heather (andshewontsleep) I've recently started Thirteen Reasons Why and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Both interesting books so far!

Just started When Will There Be Good News by Kate Atkinson.

I am slacking on the challenge books, and have been trying to read through my bookshelf of all the ones that have been there for so long.

Kelsey Baguinat (kelseybaguinat) Did you like it? That's one of my favorites!

message 1866: by Destiny (new)

Destiny (destinydiznal) Yeah, sorry part of my comment disappeared when I went to post. =) It was so unique I couldn't put it down!

message 1867: by Jess (new)

Jess I was out of town yesterday and today (flying, with delays, then traveling alone through the city I'll be living in come fall), so I've gotten through a ton of reading! I finally finished The Autobiography of Malcolm X, started and finished Man's Search for Meaning (Victor Frankl), and bought, started, and almost finished Dennis Lehane's Shutter Island. Tomorrow I return to the real world...

Destiny--That is one of my FAVORITE books! We read it as a group read if you want to check out the discussion. I know there are a few of us who would love to discuss it again! :)

Wow Jess..looks like you had a nice little reading vacation!

message 1869: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin Finished:
Thirteen Reasons Why

Started:
Neverwhere

I started Neverwhere this morning when I couldn't fall asleep... I'm now 50 pages in... I thought it was going to be somewhat boring, but it's not at all. So my plan of being bored to sleep backfired.

<3

Annie--I really loved The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo! I honestly could not put it down. I was absorbed.

message 1874: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (kellieag) I just finished Will Grayson, Will Grayson...loved it, even if it was a bit over the top. Right now I'm reading Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, a Man Who Would Cure the World.

The Mountains Beyond Mountains book looks interesting!

message 1876: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) Mountains Beyond Mountains is one of my favorite books, hope you enjoy it.

message 1877: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments I finished Wit'ch Fire this morning, I liked it, but it's a bit bloody for my taste, and everytime I start to get to know a character a bit he or she gets killed the next chapter. I'll end up reading the entire series anyway, since I'm uncapable of not finishing one once I started it.
Am currently reading The Lost Symbol since I got it over half a year ago for my birthday and I'm curious after the not so positive things I've heard about it.

message 1878: by Jess (new)

Jess I'm reading The Book Thief right now, which is great so far!

message 1879: by Anna (new)

Anna Shumaker (annashu) Jess, I love The Book Thief, I kicked myself for not reading is sooner!

message 1880: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (kalypso) | 214 comments I just read Stand last night. I won it through first reads. She has an extremely powerful story to tell and she does a very good job telling it. I read the whole thing in one sitting which is pretty rare for me as I am a bit of a slow reader. I would highly recommend it!

Jess--That's one of my favorite books!! I'm with Annashu..after I read it..I was so mad that I waited so long!

Daisy | 686 comments Finished The Lost Symbol, it was much better than I expected!! Am now onto Pawn of Prophecy.

message 1883: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments I've had The Lost Symbol sitting on my bookshelf since it came out. I might have to move that up on my to be read shelf.

message 1884: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (kellieag) Just finished The Book of Lost Things after months of reading it. It had some good parts, but overall it was meh.

message 1885: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (amazingact21) I just began The Road. I'm a little worried, beacuse the writing style in this book is confusing for me, but I promised my mother I'd read it. We'll see... :)

message 1886: by Jess (new)

Jess I just finished The Book Thief last night; I definitely agree with you, Annashu and Jamie...it was amazing! I wish I had read it earlier. I think it was much better than most WWII-era novels I've read, and I've read quite a few.

I'm getting farther into re-reading Harry Potter 4 (will probably finish in the next couple of days) and I'll start Sag Harbor tonight.

message 1887: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (kellieag) Yay for all The Book Thief love! I've been passing it on to everyone I can.

message 1888: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberlywithat) | 2140 comments My copy of The Book Thief is so battered. I think I've lent it out more than five times.

That's what I thought when I started reading it... it either gets better, or you get used to it! After the first few chapters I couldn't put it down

message 1890: by Kallie (new)

Kallie | 42 comments I agree that The Book Thief was amazing. And actually if you liked that I would recommend
The Glass Castle. I'm reading that now and I think it's fantastic.
I'm sad to say that it has been quite a while since I've finished a book... I'm currently in the middle of The Glass Castle, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, AND Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain.

Man I can't wait to graduate! Just 37 days!!

message 1891: by Kelly A. (new)

Kelly A. | 499 comments I just finished Stones from the River, a book about a dwarf girl living in Germany during WWII. It was really really good, but it gave me some mild nightmares last night (haha I sound like I'm 5). I think I need something lighter, so I started Good in Bed. Yay for chicklit fluff!

I love reading a nice light book every once in a while :) I have to read a lot of YA for my internship, and it can be great for a break from regular reading.

I'm excited. :)

message 1898: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 686 comments Just finished Pawn of Prophecy and am now onto the second book: Queen of Sorcery. Love the storytelling so far, but there's not enough magic or action yet for my taste.

message 1899: by Annie (new)

Mary Vogel (nerdvogel) | 4 comments Good books everyone!
I just finished The Yiddish Policemen's Union by Michael Chabon. I kept seeing it everywhere, and decided the cosmos were telling me to read it! I enjoyed it very much, and now I am looking forward to reading An Abundance of Katherines for some lit. junk food.
Happy Reading y'all!
