What Did You Finish Reading/What Are You Currently Reading?
I just finished They Cage the Animals at Night by Jennings Burch yesterday and it was not amazing. It was recommended to me a year ago and I finally got around to it and was really disappointed that I even bothered.I am currently reading The Know-It-All (A.J. Jacobs) and No One Belongs Here More Than You (Miranda July) as kind of just something to pick up in between books. I will either start Valley of the Dolls or East of Eden when I get home from work today.
yea im starting the 2nd one tonight...man i love jace!! but dangit why did they have to turn out to be siblings?!?! that really ticked me off. lol
Have any of you read The Host? It is by the author of the Twilight series. I enjoyed it more than the Twilight books, but beware: It really isn't similar at all. Most people that love Twilight, either can't get into The Host or don't like it.
I have the Host on my tbr list..but I haven't read Twilight yet..but it's next on my list. :)
Justine..let me know how Valley of Dolls is when you finish it!
Justine..let me know how Valley of Dolls is when you finish it!
lol no i love tigers..they are my babies. lol but dolls..uh-uh no way...they can melt for all i care. =)
Kelsey, I am with you about Jace and Clare being siblingns. That was so unexpected. I also have "The Host" and will most likely read it when I finish the Twilight series.
Jamie, I'll let you know. Kelsey, I'm right there with you. I had a collection when I was little (thanks Grandma) that terrified me.
i hate clowns!! haha I think they are creepy..dolls not so much..although there are some creepy old dolls in my house. I tend not to see them so I don't think about it.
I'm on the last 100 pgs of Breaking Dawn :( lol can you believe I went through the whole series in less than a week? I don't want it to end! But, at least now I'll but caught up for when the movie comes out...I also have The Host on my TBR list but I think I'm going to have to read a couple other books before I get around to it, or else I'm just going to keep comparing it to the Twilight series.
Hope you're happy now- my life's mission is complete, I am "bitten" by the Twilight series! It's your turn now Jamie ;)
haha Anastasia! I guess because we essentially like the same things..I will just have to start it soon! I already bought it..I'm just fearing that I will do the same thing you did and read all of them in a week..haha..and i can't afford to do that right now!
WOOO HOOOO (snoopy dance) Im so happy you liked it!! BD and Twilight were my 2 favorite out of the entire series. Even though some things could be better they were all great!! Yup now its Jamies turn to read it! Join the ranks of those of us that are in love with the vamps. ;) AHhhh i cant wait for the movie..ill be throwing elbows in that theatre. hahaOh i hate hate hate dolls. Especailly the glass ones and etc..EW. I have a story about dolls to tell yall later. lol
The Book Thief is friggin' amazing. Definitely one of my favorite books of all time. Markus Zusak wrote another book called I am the Messenger, and that one is awesome too.
Finished the book The Tsarina's Daughter and am now currently reading The Alexandria Link by Steve Berry.
i just finished Twilight! soo good. While I'm waiting for the rest of the books to come in the mail I'm starting the Gemma Doyle Trilogy.
I was amazed I liked Heretics Daughter as much as I did. It was one that I figured would be okay, but my sister is much more a history buff than me, so I thought I would give it to her. Well, I may lend it to her now.
I can't wait to read Heretics Daughter, Tami. But I've just got so many others I want to read too! Yeah, I really, really need a bookcase. I've been persuading my boyfriend now... haha. I'm just about to order one online, then when it shows up at the apartment, I'll just tell him wow, Christmas came early!
Haha that's awesome. I had to buy another bookshelf, because I had stacks of books lying all over the apartment. I love knowing that there are people in this world that love books as much as I do! =)
My gf and I had to move over the summer, and each of us had about for or five bookshelves full of books. We had to sell most of them, and would drive each other nuts over what to keep and what to sell. She would be putting books in boxes and I would take them out, usuing the excuse that I hadn't read that book yet. (Oddly enough, no one wanted the Harry Potter books. All of our friends had their own copies and the used bookstores in our area had more copies than they could move.)
I just finished a couple of short stories by Nathaniel Hawthorne for class, and currently finishing up White Noise for my other class.
haha Darryl that's really funny..i can picture that in my head with my boyfriend and i fighting over what to keep..haha..well that's if my boyfriend actually enjoyed reading..but if he did..i can picture it. haha
what do you think of White Noise?
what do you think of White Noise?
White Noise was a downer, but I think my professor for that class picked all the books because they are downers. It's not a feel good novel, which is probably partly why I like the book. It's also loopy enough to be amusing. I loved the part about the professors in the lunchroom discussing the most significant points of their expertise: "Where were you when James Dean died?" "Did you ever crap in a toilet bowl with no seat?" and so on.
just finished Frankenstein..now moving on to TWILIGHT! You have all successfully influenced me to read it!! haha
I was realllly reluctant to begin that series cause I thought it was just for preteen crazy girls. But it sucks you in, it really does. Definitely worth the read though it isn't astounding literature.
yeah..that's how I have been for so long..I kept thinking that it would not be for me. However, I am kind of approaching it as entertaining but not necessarily good literature..but I'm excited to start it nonetheless.
I don't know if you've read Sloppy Firsts/Second Helpings- but it's similar to those books. Except, in my opinion, not as irritating. The story arc through the four novels in Twilight is valid and interesting. Watching Jessica screw up her relationship with Marcus -a guy who is even less realistic than Edward, remembering that Edward is a VAMPIRE- is just not that entertaining after the fifth or so time around. I wish it would've stopped after Second Helpings. I didn't even read Fourth Comings and I don't intend on reading Perfect Fifths.
/rant whoah.
The first two are pretty decent. I was obsessed for awhile. But keep in mind, I was fifteen. =)And I'm positive there are plenty of other people who disagree with me about the others. Haha.
I would probably read the first one and then determine..that's what I'm doing with Twilight..if i hate it..no worries..I don't have to read the others.
Kate,I freaking LOVE those books. My friend is reading the 4th one right now and I can't wait for her to finish so I can read it. I just saw it at barnes and noble one day and picked it up and now I am hooked!!
I would highly recommend those books! They're great!!
I just got tired of same story arc and how stupid Jessica can be. Though I HAVE TO ADMIT, I was at the bookstore and saw them glaring at me on the shelf. I scrambled to the last few pages and saw his name. And about peed myself. It will get you, I just don't encourage it that much. ^-^
Haha, Kate, I bought Sloppy Firsts this weekend to re-read as a "breather" book (one that doesn't require a lot of thought). It's been a while since I've read it, and I hope I don't find Jessica so annoying that I'll have to stop reading, haha. And Jamie, I can't believe you're actually/finally reading Twilight... YAY! You know you'll have to tell me what you think- since we were both non-believers before and I caught the bug... I will say, though, that it's not a "read for content" book, and more an entertaining light read... Just think of it as something soft to accompany whatever classic book we decide to read :)
It's a perfect breather book. I'm not sure why I like the Twilight Series better though. They seem very similar to me. But I think it's cause I like Bella better. She was a lot more mature. And a lot less snarky. And I think they're better written. There is ONE story arc throughout then entire saga, and each novel presents an obstacle. Jessica/Marcus are just the same thing over and over. Gahhhh. But I still get that sick to my stomach, butterfly things when I see his name. Stupid fifteen year old feelings!
I should re-read it again just to further de-mystify Marcus.
I've been reading the same couple books for what feels like FOREVER! I've been trying to work my way through Dracula & The Zombie Survival Guide in anticipation of Halloween (my favorite holiday!). I've been super busy with work and life in general, plus, they just aren't gripping me.
haha, kate, I'm totally with you on Twilight being better... There's just a bit more complexity there that doesn't make it seem so... juvenille. But, I already know what I'm getting into w/Sloppy 1sts series and I validate it by saying it evens out the other book I'm planning to read, which will be a lot more dense.I'll admit (somewhat) shamelessly, that I can be a sucker for light & easy reads sometimes. I guess because of when/where I read (at work, while multitasking) I can't expect to read a heavy book and fully appreciate it, so I opt for the quick reads. I'm working on that though :)

I'm having a problem with buying too many books and not having enough room. Luckily we just got the basement redone and there are all these built in bookshelves..so i've moved some of my collection down there..i hate that they aren't in my room..but at least i have room for them. haha. i can't wait to see your picture! :)
