I've read To The Edge. Cindy's books titles are close to Suzanne Brockmann's book titles.

I finished Ashes of Midnight and started To the Edge (Bodyguard, #1) by Cindy Gerard. It's sad that I'm so addicted to PNR contemporaries that I miss it when it's not there. :)"

Merman, new one for me but it's exciting and he's yummy

Are they similar stories too?

Meme, have you read Shadow Touch? Rik is introduced in that one. I love that book! Dirk and Steele is a great series.

So, Arch, do you like the Cindy Gerard books?

Lady Danielle "So, Arch, do you like the Cindy Gerard books?"

To The Edge is the first book that I have read from Cindy. I have another one of her books.

Here's my review.

Danielle (Smiley1881) I finished Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen and it was good but not something I would normally read so it wasn't fantastic for me. Definitely no hot dangerous heros in that one. Now I'm going to start Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1) by Richelle Mead something a little more my style. lol

I know what you mean, I read it for book club and didn't like the fake happy ending... when that young circus guy agreed to take him on and care for a total stranger, how realistic was that?
I'm reading Montana Legacy by R.C. Ryan by R.C. Ryan. I'd won the sequel in a firstreads drawing and liked it OK. This one hasn't grabbed me yet.

Exactly, what kind of person is going to take care of a 93 year old man out of the kindness of his heart. Especially a circus owner.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I'm FINALLY reading The Duke (Knight Miscellany, #1) by Gaelen Foley

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) Just started Sugar Daddy (Travises, #1) by Lisa Kleypas my first venture into Lisa Kleypas' contemporary romantic novels.

Carol, I read that one this year. Very good book. Hope you like it.

Dhestiny, how are you liking The Duke?

I'm reading Upon The Midnight Clear (Dark-Hunter/Dream-Hunter, #14) by Sherrilyn Kenyon and Storm Born (Dark Swan, #1) by Richelle Mead

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Lady D, it's good so far. I'm a little confused about something though. Have you read it? Maybe I'll ask in an update but I'm wondering why Dolph was supposed to marry his uncles daughter. Cousins? Was that acceptable back then?

I read it, but it was so long ago. It's my understanding that cousin marriage is acceptable in the UK. We have more of an issue with it here in the US.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Ok, thanks. I know things were different back then, too, but it just struck me odd. I kept going back and forth checking to make sure I had the information right.

Even today it's no big deal for first cousins to marry in the UK. I know that people would have some serious things to say about it over here, except in the smaller communities. I admit I had a crush on my cousin, but we didn't grow up together. :)

Not saying I would marry my cousin, mind you!

Mollie *scoutrmom* (scoutrmom) | 635 comments UM and Lady D, one of the best researchers on the Regency era was the woman who singlehandedly created the Regency Romance genre, Georgette Heyer. I just re-read The Grand Sophy and she had first cousins marrying in that story. As a matter of fact, in the U.S. and around the world 200 years ago it wasn't unusual.

The common case of the "Village Idiot" comes from the fact that in a time when travel was difficult, meeting a spouse from another area was unlikely. There was far too much inbreeding, sometimes producing a mentally retarded child.

I'm still reading Montana Legacy by R.C. Ryan

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Thank you for the information, Mollie!

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Linda, what SEALs books do you read?

message 1276: by Linda (new)

Linda I read the Tall Dark and Dangerous series by Suzanne Brockmann and am starting to reread the Troubleshooters series.........hot hot hot Navy Seals - ha ha

Any other suggestions similar to these books?

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Oh, gosh... I love Cindy Gerard (I ended up liking her better than Brockmann) for the ex-military men. If you go that route start with her Bodyguards series. If you just like excellent romantic suspense, try Pamela Clare's I-Team series. So, so good!

If you like a little PNR with your RS, try Christine Feehan's Ghostwalker series. I really like that one, too.

You might like Lora Leighs Tempting Seals series, try Dangerous Games (Tempting SEALs, #2) by Lora Leigh
(the first in this series was a novella in an anthology Honk If You Love Real Men Four Tales of Erotic Romance (Includes Tempting SEALs, #1) by Carrie Alexander I've not bought yet, but I own the rest. I started with this one and loved them.) This series leads into her current Elite Ops series.

In the UK, you can marry a cousin (courtesy of Henry VIII who changed the law to marry his cousin!). However, it is considered sensible for the cousins to consult their GP to ensure that there are no factors in their family's health records that would make their decision to have children inadvisable on medical grounds.

The six wives were:

Catherine of Aragon - divorced
Anne Boleyn - executed
Jane Seymour - died
Ann of Cleves - divorced
Catherine Howard - executed
Katherine Parr - widowed

Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard were both first cousins of Henry VIII.

The only thing that I don't like about the Arcane series is that I don't own any of them! (I know, I know, lame remark!) I read all of them through the library, which sucks because I definitely like re-reading them, but I hate buying books that I have already read...

I'm sure some day I'll cave and just buy them

Mollie *scoutrmom* (scoutrmom) | 635 comments Amanda wrote: "...I'm sure some day I'll cave and just buy them "

Usually when I enjoy a library book, I get a copy of it later through online swaps or at Half Price Books. If I'm lucky I'll find it at Goodwill or the Friends of the Library sale shelf for fifty cents. (Many of the books at the last two places are donated by me so I have to shop judiciously.)

But with my favorite authors, like Nora Roberts, Christine Feehan, or Jayne Ann Krentz, it's hard for me to wait until the bookstore decides to mark it 30% off for the hardcover. Larissa Ione has one coming out next Monday, and my library won't be getting that in, so I'm squeezing $15 out of the grocery budget.

Three of my authors have new ones coming out on the 31st and I plan to buy all of them eventually.
