Please, for the love of the written word, vote for books that make us marvel at the ingenuity of the human mind rather than the cruelty we're sometimes capable of.

I was wondering why there were a lot of posts for older book threads. I just thought necroposting was in vogue at this group. 😂😂

It's also part of the pick for our virtual book club, where once a month whoever is interested picks a book from the BOTM and the rereads of the month and we have a deep dive on the one with the most votes --highly encourage anyone who wants to talk books in a club setting to attend!

I suggest not dating me! :)

My first proposal is...

April
Consider Phlebas (471 pgs)
A Canticle for Leibowitz (335 pgs)

May
The Memory Police (274 pgs)
Leviathan Wakes (561 pgs)

June
Children of Time (600 pgs)
The Bone Shard Daughter (448 pgs)

Do let me know if this is inconvenient for you and what books you'd like not to clash in regards to scheduling.

message 67: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments The only book I’ll be reading is the Memory Police and May is great for me. Could change to June if need be.

Bonnie | 1279 comments Hee hee

I will be reading The Memory Police and The Bone Shard Daughter (the ones I haven't read before). That schedule looks good to me.

message 70: by Aga (new)

Aga | 1066 comments I’m going to read Children of Time and The Bone Shard Daughter, so if there’s an option to separate them I would be glad.

I’ll try The Memory Police and give Leviathan Wakes another chance if I have some time.

message 71: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellehartline) | 3169 comments I might give Leviathan Wakes a whirl in May. I've owned it for over a year, so I really should read it.

Proposal 1

April
Consider Phlebas (471 pgs)
A Canticle for Leibowitz (335 pgs)

May
The Memory Police (274 pgs)
Leviathan Wakes (561 pgs)

June
Children of Time (600 pgs)
The Bone Shard Daughter (448 pgs)

Proposal 2

April
Consider Phlebas (471 pgs)
A Canticle for Leibowitz (335 pgs)

May
The Memory Police (274 pgs)
Children of Time (600 pgs)

June
The Bone Shard Daughter (448 pgs)
Leviathan Wakes (561 pgs)

I'm hoping that Canticle for Leibowitz and The Memory Police, which I haven't read yet, get a chance to be discussed in a VBC so I'd rather they were kept separate but it's not absolutely necessary. Canticle could and should generate an interesting discussion about the role Christianity has played in shaping the world, memory, and how we interpret the past. No idea what kind of discussion The Memory Police will inspire.

I'd be lying if I said I was excited about the prospect of discussing any of the other books, even though I did enjoy reading them. :/

message 73: by Wayne (new)

Wayne Sweigart | 39 comments I've read 3 of these. In each proposal the 3 I haven't read are in separate months so I'm fine with either.

message 74: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments I like Option 2, because, of all the books beside The Memory Police that I might read, it’s Leviathan Wakes. If it’s in the same month, I won’t, for sure.

message 75: by Aga (new)

Aga | 1066 comments I vote for Option 2.

message 82: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Connell (sarahconnell) | 315 comments Is Red Rising YA? I couldn’t tell from the blurb.

message 83: by Banshee (new)

Banshee (bansheethecat) | 200 comments Sarah wrote: "Is Red Rising YA? I couldn’t tell from the blurb."

Oh no, it's definitely not YA. Some people label the first book as such, because the characters start fairly young. But the series follows them as they age, and besides, it's violent, heavy in terms of subjects it explores and from the second book also politically intricate.

message 84: by Bobby (new)

Bobby Durrett | 234 comments Done with Red Rising. I'm going to read the second book in the series. The comments from the main spoiler thread say the second book is better than the first and my daughter agrees.
