I don't like to talk about my DCBS preorders... Suffice to say if it's an omnibus, OHC, or complete collection, it gets preordered. I justify by saying that it's saving me money later on!

Refreshing to this page. Anyone have a suggestion on proper adhesive for a book plate?

Personally I wouldn't glue it in as it impacts resale value if I ever decide to sell it. If I were to glue it in and wanted the best adhesive I'd probably get book binders glue:

Rel, I assumed it would be good as the plate was made for the book and sighted by author and artist. Still no? Perhaps that’s why they shipped it with the book but didn’t attach it.

My two cents: it probably came unattached to speed up the signing process. If you’d ever want to resell, I’d be a bit more inclined to say get it attached. Some people might question authenticity either way without a proper verification, but I’d scrutinize it more if it was just loose.

I doubt Cursewords will have a big resale value anyway; I’m attaching it.

Received the Blackest Night Box Set. Not anywhere to the quality of the Marvel Box Sets.

I’m pretty disappointed as I have the Crisis box set and I’m pretty sure that one was the quality of the marvel box set. I’ll be looking at that one again when I get back to the office; perhaps my memory isn’t spot on.

Thank goodness for IST. Box set cost me $170 . . . It’s questionable worth that much IMO, definitely not the $300 MSRP.

Comes with a set of all the rings. Cheap plastic from a quarter machine and gimmicky . . . Not something an adult needs and too expensive of a set to justify buying for a kid.

I just watched a review out of curiosity and yeah, those rings don’t look like anything worthwhile; glad you saved money with the IST purchase, Erik. At least they come in a book-like container to leave them in, rather than just a plastic bag or something.

That’s why I stopped buying special editions of certain videogames—extras usually were on the cheaper side and almost always I never knew what to do with them/felt wasteful getting rid of them. I feel the quality of the box sets from Marvel have gone done recently, but I prefer a poster as an extra for ease of storage or to hang up.

I actually had no idea the rings were a part of it. I just wanted the books to be a better quality. When I saw the rings my thought was, “oh, why did they even bother with this?

I wasn't tracking it was signed by the author and artist. Most of these sorts of plates are for the owner to sign noting the volume is part of their personal library. I understand getting it affixed under these circumstances. =)

Didn't make an order this week since there wasn't much new I want and I paid for several screen print art commissions.

Had a very busy week (16 hour work day on Tuesday) and not getting a lot of reading done leading into this busy spell. I did watch the anime Black Clover (on Funimation) when I was home turning my brain off last weekend. Getting ready for a very cold winter weekend with snow in the forecast. I have a box from IST on the way to me and I hope it arrives in time for the weekend. =)

DCBS preorders for 5 months . . . Very happy they just charge upfront. Orders have been big because there is a surprising amount of Image HC coming in the future.

There has been a dry spell of Image HC so in support, I’ve been ordering them even if I haven’t heard of the series . . . Hopefully some good finds.

message 6962: by Jeff (new)

Jeff | 209 comments I have a hard time finding Image HCs on DCBS. At least, at a decent rate where it's not just cheaper to wait for it on IST. Maybe I'm just spoiled with the 50% off for Marvel/DC.

There have been quite a few preorders. Many more than there have been over the past couple years. Granted some are reprints, like the Elephantmen.

I don't think we have any news in the solicitations for this yet. I'm sure Marvel will have some sort of plan to keep making money though. :) I'm curious to see if they do more OHCs of some of the X-men runs going along side of Hickmans' run.

"InStockTrades New Releases Alert
Hello,

Due to inclement weather in Memphis and unsafe driving conditions, our staff has been unable to make it into our warehouse the last couple of days to process and prepare new releases to go live at 2PM CST today as would be typical.

We are anticipating the new release items to be available for purchase on our website on Thursday, February 18th at 2PM CST.

Also, we are extending our 2% loyalty discount from 8 to 11 days so that if you placed an order last Tuesday, you should still qualify for the extra discount through Friday of this week. The extension to the loyalty discount is a temporary adjustment and should be back to the normal 8 day period by next week.

We want to thank everyone for their patience and hope that anyone who is dealing with similar circumstances is able to stay safe and warm. Thank you!"

message 6971: by noelbeast (new)

noelbeast | 489 comments Just saw it. I’m surprised the window is that short between when they get their stock to confirm how much they can sell and when it goes live, unless their bad weather started before this past weekend?

message 6972: by Jeff (new)

Jeff | 209 comments If they're facing what I've had here in KC, it's been cold, snowy, and icy for nearly two weeks now. Nothing compared to what I used to get back home in New Hampshire, but they're just not prepared for it here, so everything shuts down.

message 6973: by noelbeast (new)

noelbeast | 489 comments Ahh, I see. Where I hail from, it’s difficult for me to fathom these kinds of shutdowns, but not everyone gets the luxury(?) of growing up in cold, wintry climates.

Same here. I used to laugh when I heard everything was shut down, but the state just isn't prepared for it. Back home, we get massive trucks on the road with salt to prep for the storms and plow throughout. Here, they only have a few trucks, so they wait until the storm ends to start plowing. If they treated the storms the same way they do back in NH, it would be nothing. But it actually ends up being worse conditions here because they're unprepared.

Agreed. Business is booming for them by all accounts, so it’s the least they can do with the extra profits coming in, as well as try to keep their expanding customer base around once focus on “shut in” hobbies starts to dwindle. I wish other collecting-related companies would follow suit, though *cough CGC cough*

Feel the same about finding the situation humorous, though those southern state winter pileup videos they show on the news when weather like this hits are always terrifying to watch.

I witnessed one of those pileups just the other day on my way to work. The plows came through after the storm, packing the snow down into ice, and the road was canted in just the right way that the wind started pushing cars across the road. I saw a semi truck slide across two lanes of traffic in front of me. Thankfully missing everyone. I saw another driver in an SUV come zipping up to pass me, and then fail to stop in time as they slammed into the back of another car. In total, there were roughly 15 cars wrecked or in the ditches in my 10 mile drive on the highway.

Meanwhile, I'm just enjoying my leisurely drive to work, at about 20 less than the speed limit, giving everyone space, and driving like you're supposed to when the roads are bad. Sometimes folks forget you need extra space and time if the roads are icy.

noelbeast | 489 comments In case anyone doesn’t get the email, IST Releases for the week pushed back to tomorrow:

InStockTrades New Releases Announcement
Hello,

We are pained to have to announce further delays for this week's new releases.

The inclement weather has continued to make the travel conditions in Memphis unsafe for our staff, so our warehouse remains closed for the time being. With the forecast showing snow ceasing soon and the sun coming out tomorrow we currently hope that the team can return to prepare new releases to be live tomorrow, Friday the 19th, at the typical release time of 2PM CST/3PM EST.

We understand it is disappointing to see these new releases delayed, particularly when they include a largely anticipated new collection, however we need to have our eyes on the shipments from our distributors to ensure our inventory is properly counted and copies damaged in transit can be assessed.

If further delays are to occur we will continue to communicate as hastily as possible and will make sure to be clear on what date and what time the new items will be available to order.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time, and we hope that all of our friends who are being impacted by these storms are staying safe and warm.

Bummer. They’re far behind as is. Used to have orders shipped within 5 days at latest 10 days. Lately it’s taken roughly 3 weeks at earliest. I have a couple orders that show books not even pulled.

Notice no comment on extending the 2% any further.

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
So, if it is delayed tomorrow, I'm assuming there's no chance of it going up on the weekend, even if they can obtain the stock. I don't want to miss out because it pops up on the weekend when I'm not expecting it.

I would bet Monday is out of the question too, just because it'll take time to get the stock and count it and that's assuming weather is still not a problem.

So far they've been good with communication so I think there will be enough notice.

message 6984: by J (new)

J | 531 comments Erik, there's an email this morning saying they are extending the 2% for 15 days.

"Hello,

We have decided to postpone this week’s new releases until Tuesday, February 23rd at 2PM CST/3PM EST. The weather conditions in Memphis are better than they have been but there are still obstacles, therefore we feel that travel is not yet safe for our employees.

The 2% loyalty discount has been extended to 15 days so if you placed an order on Tuesday, February 9th you will still qualify for the discount on Tuesday, February 23rd. The extension to the loyalty discount is a temporary adjustment and should be back to the normal 8-day period by Thursday, February 25th.

We want to thank everyone for their patience and hope that anyone who is dealing with similar circumstances is able to stay safe and warm. Thank you!"

For anyone that didn’t get it, here’s a snippet from IST’s newsletter that just came out:

On the note of new releases, in order to help the warehouse crew to catch up on processing orders we will be doing a limited and staggered release of the items from the last week and this week.

From last week only the Marvel and DC titles will be made active today at 2PM CST/3PM EST along with just the Marvel titles from this week. DC titles from this week are delayed due to last week’s winter storms causing a delay in the arrival of our Lunar shipment.

On 3/2, alongside all new releases from that date will be the DC titles from 2/24 as well as Image, IDW and Dark Horse titles from both 2/17 and 2/24.

The following week on 3/9 we will have all of those new releases as well as all new manga and any remaining publishers’ releases from 2/17 and 2/24.

message 6993: by J (new)

J | 531 comments CGN also noted that they had a delay in DC titles because of the storm.

For anyone picking up the What If? Omnibus, which cover do you plan on getting? Buscema, Kirby or Wilson?

I'm leaning towards Kirby, because it's Kirby, but that particular issue doesn't interest me. Buscema would be second because of the art. Wilson, I like the issue, but it's the standard cover.

message 6997: by noelbeast (new)

noelbeast | 489 comments For me it’s down to either the Wilson or Kirby cover. I like the Wilson cover better for the “heroic” image, but the Kirby cover always makes me laugh. Probably go with Kirby in the end since it’s a DM variant.

noelbeast | 489 comments UXM vol. 4 DM variant. The IST website was very smooth, which I wasn’t expecting because this book seemed so hotly anticipated. They even have it listed as *limit 1 per customer*. Wonder if there weren’t as many people buying from IST because it didn’t drop last week/FOMO.

Sadly, Kirby and "DM Variant" have influence on my decision. I really should just go with the one I like the most.

Well, despite getting another email stating IST was going to postpone all Marvel books this week, they were still up for order. I got mine in, but we'll see if they end up canceling it or holding it until next week.
