noelbeast | 489 comments I just got both DMs, the Cap one is still up on my browser as of now.

Mark Hodski | 10 comments Grabbed ASM Vol 2 DM, and the Cates GotG HC from a few weeks back since I had the free shipping.

I’m hoping they reprint ASM vol 1 some point down the line. I’m finally going to start adding the silver age stuff to the collection. I’m looking forward to grabbing the FF reprints coming this summer as well.

J | 531 comments Grabbed the ASM. Glad to see Marvel reprinted this one. Also filled in a gap in my Thor collection and the Titans: Burning Rage paperback.

I grabbed a couple things from my backlog - World of Black Hammer Library Ed vol 1 and Star Wars Age of Rebellion OHC. I picked up the Brubaker Cap omnibus when it was first released. =)

Nice to see the omnibus volumes from yesterday still available today. I know IST was working on ordering greater amounts of omnibus volumes to try to get away from selling out right away. Because of the lag between ordering and getting the product (can be six months or longer) perhaps it has taken this long to get close to these bigger orders?

I did order two books due out over the summer from DCBS, the Star Wars omnibus and Savage Sword of Conan vol 5 DM covers. Hopefully this will at least slim down the number of books I have to pay for coming out around July with all the Cap books dropping.

Nice Rel! I too just worked on some back log as I already had many of these reprints. Happy others got another crack at these.

Nickviola | 1019 comments Also got the DM of Spider-Man v2 and Captain America - making up for books I previously owned then let go of before a move, happy to have them back.

Has anyone heard of (1) ASMv3 reprint or (2) restock of UXM v2 - i picked that up via Amazon because it was gone on IST so quickly and only have until saturday to return but since it was $100, id love to return it and get it on IST or somewhere else if restocked and discounted.

FYI:

I'm seeing chatter online indicating there is an issue right now with unloading ships at the ports that is causing delays in books being released. X of Swords was specifically noted as one of the books being impacted but this is likely delaying other books and potentially (maybe) some additional stock of recent books.

I'm seeing dates for X of Swords all over the place in February and some retailers even have it listed as coming out in March.

message 6908: by noelbeast (new)

noelbeast | 489 comments Interesting. Wonder what’s causing the delays at the ports. Hopefully not COVID cases and impacts to manpower.

This WaPo article explains part of the reason: https://www.washingtonpost.com/busine...

And this is also part of the reason:
https://www.jckonline.com/editorial-a...

I recently ordered some custom art from an artist in Japan. For months he couldn't even ship to the US, and when he finally did it took almost two months via postal systems. I'm not sure if it crossed the Pacific via ocean or air, but either way it took a very long time getting to the first US post office.

message 6910: by noelbeast (last edited Jan 29, 2021 07:33AM) (new)

noelbeast | 489 comments Makes perfect sense, thanks for the links. At least in this case, it’s a lot easier to deal with omni delays as compared to the supply chain issues with TP and cleaning products last spring.

Edit: and Joseph, glad to hear that your custom artwork finally made it through!

I saw a post in a statue group where they were notified that multiple containers were lost at sea and they were still assessing the damage. Apparently that is very rare. No confirmation of that or details but that would also explain a few things.

Even in the best of times, it's my understanding that statue preorders through Sideshow take a year+ until you get it in hand.

I didn't want to be too discouraging!

Not to get too off-topic but what did you pre-order Ryan?

message 6916: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 146 comments The Mandalorian w/Child 1/4 scale premium format. I’ve never bought a larger statue on this scale, only the smaller Batman Black and White etc. I’ve been debating ordering for months but it’s hard to just pull the trigger on $630. Their interest free installment payments make it mighty enticing.

The other issue of course, is space. I might have room for a few of these on top of my bookshelves but more than a few would be difficult.

message 6917: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
Nice! I can certainly understand the hesitation. Size and price have kept me out of the 1/4 scale game.

Donovan | 1154 comments Hey ya'll. Just picked up Hellboy Library Vols. 1-2. Man these editions are gorgeous.

Any idea if IST is still doing 50% for new releases? I'm eyeing the New 52 Swamp Thing Omni and that $125 is pretty killer...

message 6919: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
Since COVID they’ve dropped the 50%. We’re all hoping they go back to it eventually. Some have started preordering on dcbservice.com to get the 50%.

I have those as well and I’m impatiently waiting for vol 3 to get back in stock.

I think they may be part of the same company, but DCBS has taken much of my money away from IST due to IST no longer having the 50% discount and the increase of stock issues.

I'm holding out for the Cates' Venom Omnibus.. They're pushing Venomnibus vol 1 reprint, and Cates is already getting omnis printed, so I figure it's just a matter of time.

message 6924: by noelbeast (new)

noelbeast | 489 comments Kraven’s Last Hunt is a book I’ve been meaning to pick up for a while, but that edition looks to be one of the many forms of smaller hardcovers that Marvel puts out, so I just bit the bullet and bought the deluxe edition OHC that’s been on my watchlist forever on eBay.

Excited about the UXM Disassembled OHC—that plus some related TPBs are the last big chunk of main X-Men titles I need to complete my collection from 1963 to HoX/PoX.

With Absolute Carnage selling out so quickly, I feel like The King in Black seems likely to get an omnibus which would also contain a chunk of the Venom run (maybe even picking right up where Absolute Carnage left off). If so, with that and Absolute Carnage already capturing the big events (and potentially the majority of Cates's issues), I'm not sure if we would also get Cates' Venom stand alone run in omnibus. If/when we get a solicitation for The King in Black hardcover collection the content may give us a clue for how likely what we could see next.

J | 531 comments I have my first DCBS preorder shipment coming this week. I've done preorders for four months now, so I was wondering how the shipping worked since books solicited in one month may ship different months.

Looks like this order is the books that were released in January, and I noticed today that they have already started a pre-shipment for books dropping tomorrow and presumably the rest of the month.

Y'all probably already know how that works, but I wasn't sure. Years ago when CGN did preorders, all the books in the order had to be out before the shipment. So good, as far as I'm concerned, to get them dribbled out monthly. (I'm pretty sure customers can get twice monthly or weekly shipments for additional costs.)

I too have my first shipment coming from them (New Teen Titans vol 5), and was concerned they'd group everything together. I'd rather everything come out gradually than have to wait, so this is pretty exciting . Can't wait to see what the february preorders are in a few days!

message 6930: by Ryan (new)

Ryan | 146 comments I just got my first shipment from them a few days ago. It was a bunch of single issue preorders, and they included my Captain America by Brubaker Omnibus that I preordered a few months back. I have my comics set to ship twice per month so it looks like they will include any other books I order in one of those shipments.

Theyve already said nothing in the pipeline but the ohcs. i just went with them. i actually prefer to omni as there is no gutter loss. but like jason aaron's thor or doc strange runs no omnis as ohcs not sold well enough.

Aaron’s Conan. Filled in some of the invincible run.

Blind, I assume you use USPS for free shipping? I used it once and it took forever. IST used to give me free UPS ground based on order size, but it seems that’s gone too. I have 4 pending orders with them . . . I feel I may as well go back to free USPS shipping rather than fork over the $4 for UPS ground when it takes them weeks to ship out anyway.

message 6934: by J (new)

J | 531 comments I got Conan by Aaron/Asrar, Uncanny X-Men Disassembled, the new Eternals trade, King Thor by Aaron, the first Thor trade by Cates, a couple Archie books, and a couple of DC's books for younger folks.

I'm sure Marvel will put that Cates Thor run in a series of OHC but I'm not waiting. ha. I'm just not patient enough.

Erik, with today's order, I have 4 outstanding orders as well*. I still feel UPS is better with heavy packages like these than the USPS and pay the added cost, anyway.

*Granted, two of the outstanding orders have *one* book that doesn't seem available for processing. That happened a couple months back, and IST eventually sent the order minus that book and just mailed it to me when it was in-stock again.

J | 531 comments I commissioned a sketch from a cartoonist I like and he mailed it to me last Monday via USPS from PA. As of yesterday it was still sitting in a warehouse in NJ. Same happened with a number of other packages, including one from CGN, which went all over the southeast before finally arriving at my house a month later. Glad your experience had been good, but not mine lately.

I was very busy at work yesterday and didn't jump on ordering right at release time on IST. Happy to see things still available today. I ordered the new Aaron Conan OHC, an older Star Wars OHC I didn't have and the Bramble hardcover from Humanoids that has been on my wish list forever. I put the Manhunter book on my wish list.

I have three orders pending and one in the mail from IST. I usually use the free USPS option.

Promise I’m not trying to one up your story Joseph, but for those of you that saw my last comic room update pics, I’ve been on the prowl for a high grade Giant-Size X-Men #1 for some time.

Well, I jumped at a good deal on one beginning of November on eBay. Long story short, the deal was too good to be true, and stopping the scam/getting my money back was a bit nerve-wracking. Thankfully buyer protection kept me safe, crisis averted! So logically the most prudent thing to do was turn that money back around towards another copy. At the beginning of December. When USPS shipping went to absolute s#*t.

Suppose it wasn’t too bad in the grand scheme of things, but my comic went into a USPS black hole for 3 weeks without one update. Thousands of dollars in limbo. To be fair, it shipped out just as reports about massive USPS delays were coming to light. In the end, though, I got my comic just before Christmas, a miracle if you will, and it sits proudly on my wall next to my X-Men #1. Might have a few more grey hairs now than I did in October for some reason or another.

In short Joseph: keep the faith!

What cartoonist and what’s the sketch of? I absolutely love original sketches.

J | 531 comments Wow, that's a scary story. Glad it came out well in the end.

I'm actually rather pro-USPS, but for whatever reasons, they are not as productive as they used to be. I don't worry so much I'll never receive packages from them, but there's always the chance when tracking shows a package in one spot for weeks on end.

In my free time (when I'm not reading comics), I do endurance sports and my favorite sports gear maker, Ten Thousand, recently had their own problems with USPS, basically what we're talking about here. They have lost a lot of business and their IG has been full of irate customers wondering why their purchases were not delivered in time for Christmas or even weeks after. Ten Thousand is a small, online only brand, and if other small businesses are/were having similar problems, it's going to be a mass exodus of cash from USPS to other carriers.

The sketch is from a cartoonist named Bill Alger. He does commercial art as well as illuatrations for various publishers. He's a fellow Legion of Super-Heroes fan, and a while back we were talking about Infectious Lass, a joke character co-created by Dave Cockrum who could literally make people sick by infecting them with viruses. So I just had an idea to ask him to do a sketch of her for me, and he did one where she is making one of the Super-Pets throw up. Just had him do that in B/W.

I've mentioned here before I mentor a younger man who I'm introducing to comics. He's been reading the New Teen Titans and really liked Deathstroke. For his birthday, I asked Bill to do something with Deathstroke and the Titans. My buddy has CP and comes from a rather dysfunctional family and doesn't get out hardly at all, even pre-pandemic, and one of his other interests is watching various types of wrestling. Bill had the idea of Deathstroke wrestling Beast Boy, and came up with this really good work which also has Terra smirking on the side and a rather terrified Jericho by the ropes. I had Bill do this one in color, so he did some color work with acrylics, I think.

Bill is a super nice guy and his rates are reasonable.

I believe his IG page is public, so this is a link to the Deathstroke drawing: https://www.instagram.com/p/CKjiNAOh7...

The Infectious Lass sketch is here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CIMVjHFBc...

Agree with you about being pro-USPS. Pretty amazing all they can do for the prices they charge, especially for standard mail. That’s also bad news about Ten Thousand, and other small companies like that that’re suffering because of all of USPS’s woes. Hope as many businesses as possible, including USPS, can weather this all and keep their doors open.

As for the sketches, very cool about the gift you got your mentee—quite kind of you man! I like Bill Alger’s style from what I saw on his website. Can’t see the pics of your sketches since I don’t have Instagram, but sure they look good. You should post a pic of them when they finally show up.

J | 531 comments Agree, Darth. I'm really hoping to see more Silver and Bronze Age material bit other than that Death of Irish West HC and the 3rd Shazam Volume, doesn't seem to be much out there.

Also maybe it was in the Marvel discussion, but we talked a bit about the Bronze Age Conan. I was wondering if anyone has read the Cimmerian series from Ablaze? The creators have French names, but thought Marvel had exclusive rights. Maybe that's just in the US. Seems the selling point is the sexual content.
