Despite being a Spidey fan, I decided to pass on the MMW Spectactulars. I have all the single issues (up to a certain point) and guess I'm hoping for an omnibus vs. a bunch of MMWs.

Antony McEwan | 42 comments I've only been collecting/reading Omnis and OHCs for a few weeks. Have bought West Coast Avengers Omnibus vol 1 & 2, John Byrne's Avengers Omni, parts 1 and 2 of Operation Galactic Storm - so that's my WCA reading lined up.

Also want to do a comprehensive X-Men collection, currently have Uncanny X-Men Omnis vol 1 & 2, and a loooong way to go.

Eventually I'd like to convert all my Batman tpbs to Deluxe Editions too, but that's in the background.

Hey, welcome to the community and the addiction, Anthony! And to add a well-known quote: “hope you survive the experience!”

Absolutely have a long way to go with UXM, but should be a good experience for you overall. I’ve been a long time lover of the X-Men since childhood but didn’t start actually collecting the omnis and OHCs until about 6 years ago. Use the threads that Blind linked above, share with us your collecting progress, and ask any questions you might have. Glad to have you aboard!

Antony McEwan | 42 comments Cool, thanks for the welcome! I'm not sure if those lists are 100% accurate in terms of chronology though. I find Near Mint Condition's videos on reading order on YouTube make good sense so I'm basing my list off that.

also though, Uncanny X-Men vol 4 Omnibus is up for pre-order on Amazon now, and takes Uncanny X-Men to issue 193, which means Marvel Masterworks Uncanny X-Men vol 12 fits nicely in with issues 194-200, followed by X-Men: Ghosts tpb which runs 199-210 and lines up perfectly for the Mutant Massacre Omni which starts at 210.

Yeah, X-continuity is a real pain sometimes! ;)

Edit: I'll give those links a more thorough read-through and compare with the list I've prepped and see how they compare, thanks!

Agreed, chronology is difficult. Especially when HCs may span multiple series or skip issues, etc. Also, this group primarily focuses on hardcovers, mostly the oversized ones, so rarely do we reference TPBs.

I prefer the lists like the second one, where the goal is just to map which issue is collected in which OHC, but that's simply my preference.

Perhaps someone can transcribe nearmint's and compare/correct what we have here...

Antony McEwan | 42 comments "Perhaps someone can transcribe nearmint's and compare/correct what we have here... "

Hint...! ;) I'll see if I can have a go at it in next few days.

I forgot to add I also have X-Men Classic Omni on its way to me as well!

I too read a lot of this material starting at the 1990 mark when I was younger, so a LOT of material that I haven't seen before.

LOL. It wasn't directed at you, so don't feel obligated. :)

That X-Men Classic Omnibus is good stuff. I really enjoyed the additional material and tweaks. That's all my favorite X-Men era.

IST had a second shipment of Silver Surfer regular cover omnibus volumes post but they sold out fairly quickly. I haven't heard anything about them getting additional copies or not. Amazon is showing they will have additional copies in stock 13 Jul 20.

I ordered a copy of the variant cover from cheapgraphicnovels.com and it arrived yesterday.

It’s a bit confusing, especially that IST’s website has conflicting information. They’ve still got it listed as releasing this week on their “Coming Soon” list (original release date before COVID-19 impacts) but listed as releasing on Aug. 26th here: https://www.instocktrades.com/covid19...

Near Mint Condition also gave us the new Aug. release date back in May. Suppose we’ll see if it pops up in a couple of hours, but I’m betting next month.

Congrats on grabbing a sealed vol. 2!

Welcome Anthony, you’ll find a lot of good discussion here (As Blind states, mostly about OCH and Omnis)

Anyone else feel the anxiety when you check in and and there’s 100 comments within a day 😉.

As for IST and availability, I’m hoping this is just all left over from Diamonds halt due to Covid. I’ve missed out on a few DM Variants now and paying full price from Amazon for the Surfer Omni (a very very thin Omni) hurt.

Also, those looking into Peter David Hulk Omni, looks like it’s going OOP soon.

I was in a hearing all day yesterday and missed the variant Savage Sword of Conan vol 3 omnibus. I paid a fair bit more from CheapGrapicNovels but just pulled the trigger to make sure I didn't miss it below cover price altogether.

Waiting patiently for mine . . . placed my order with IST two weeks ago and the order doesn't even have it "picked" yet. Clearly they're having stock issues at IST.

message 6088: by boymeetscomics (new)

boymeetscomics | 79 comments My IST orders are the same thing. I think Diamond is a mess and probably backed up with all the reopening stores.

message 6089: by Relstuart, Mod+ (new)

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
If you look at your orders on IST you can count the number of orders in between your orders by looking at your order number. Looking at the breakdown on my list it appears there was just under five thousand orders between 30 Jun and 11 Jul. They are a small company and it appears there is some lag right now on their shipping.

I love it when Amazon "messes" up their shipping like that!

It does look like the Dark Horse Predator Original Comic series hard cover is going out of print. With Marvel taking over the license for this material it's probable we won't see Dark Horse reprint their hardcovers going forward so if you've been planning on picking any of the Alien universe hardcovers up you might move that up on your priority list.

message 6091: by Antony (new)

message 6092: by Nickviola (last edited Jul 13, 2020 10:04PM) (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments So, if anyone is on the fence about the Absolute Kirby Fourth World, I threw up some pictures:

https://www.goodreads.com/photo/group...

https://www.goodreads.com/photo/group...

https://www.goodreads.com/photo/group...

https://www.goodreads.com/photo/group...

Cool things are, the outer box has this cutout that lines up with Darkseids head and the Kirby tech design is cool. It’s also a very shimmery white/silver that is now the only absolute that I have the box side facing out. Obviously the page thickness is beautiful and it’s great seeing Kirby art that big, just wow. The art on the inside of the covers is also rad.

Cons besides the price and the omnibus exists, the actual hardcover is just kind of fine. It’s reminds me of a high school textbook in glossiness and quality.

Finally, my shelves are now full (see below). So I have to start selling or... deep breath... start stacking.

Forgot to respond to this. Yes, unfortunately:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Does anyone open new purchases immediately upon receiving them to check for printing errors? It's not something that I do, and even if I flipped through the book, I doubt I would catch small things like pages out of order. Only major printing problems I would think would be noticeable. The rest would only come while actually reading it.

New today on IST:

Uncanny X-Men Omnibus vol 1 new printing
Green Lantern 80 Years of the Emerald Knight
Complete Chester Gould Dick Tracy HC vol 28
Oblivion Song HC vol 1
Wonder Woman Through the Years HC (standard size).

Sorry this is later than typical. Probably only gunning for the Oblivion Song HC from these books as I already have the X-Men omnibus.

Antony McEwan | 42 comments Quite a nice couple of days. Today, to encourage the reopening of local Waterstones, I bought the Detective Comics issue 1000 Deluxe Hardcover - wow, it's really nice! I was tempted by the Harleen OHC too....

Also have coming in the post Batman Rebirth Deluxe Editions books 2,3 and 4 and Batman/Flash "The Button".

I've been a Batman fan all my long life and I love the Deluxe Edition format (which I only discovered recently) and have set up a standing order for further Deluxe Edition releases with Forbidden Planet (fingers crossed).

I thought Harleen was well done. I think it will be a contender for best DC book of the year for me at the end of 2020.

Five years ago when I started this group there was a surprising lack of DLX and omnibus editions featuring Batman. DC has made huge strides towards changing that in the intervening time.
