I'm really surprised they haven't reprinted God Loves, Man Kills in a larger format than the premiere HC. Seems like they could find some other material to add with it such as some Marvel Fanfare stories or something.

The could reprint that, Revenge of the Living Monolith and Dazzler Marvel Graphic Novels together, similar to the way they did the Spider-Man ones.

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
Yeah, that is a classic story. They included it in the recent Uncanny X-Men Masterworks volume (9?). Hopefully they will be releasing a vol 3 Uncanny X-men omnibus eventually and this all gets printed. I think there may be enough unprinted material for a volume 4 too.

I missed X-Force Sex and Violence. The story is included also in Yost's X-Force volume 2. The art is fantastic and I enjoyed the Wolverine and Domino story.

That's right. I forgot that was a separate release initially.

The Peter David X-Factor has only been in premiere HC, right? I seem to remember looking for it and couldn't find an OHC version.

I don't see the OGN No More Humans by Mike Carey. Not exactly an OHC, but...

Good call on No More Humans. It actually is an oversized hardcover so I added it in. =)

The Peter David X-Factor HCs I've seen have all been the standard size volumes.

Remender's X-Force is in my top 5 best reads of 2014 for comics for sure. Good stuff. While it's pretty self contained he does pick up some of the story threads in his Uncanny Avengers omnibus.

boymeetscomics | 79 comments I've been trying to collect all the X-Men Omnibus and OHC in a complete chronological reading order. Based on this thread, I was able to list it up to Onslaught.

X-Men Omnibus Vol. 1
X-Men Omnibus Vol. 2
Uncanny X-Men Omnibus Vol. 1
Uncanny X-Men Omnibus Vol. 2
Uncanny X-Men Omnibus Vol. 3
X-Men: Mutant Massacre HC
X-Men: Fall of the Mutants HC
X-Men: X-Tinction Agenda HC
X-Men: Inferno Prologue HC
X-Men: Inferno HC
X-Men by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee Omnibus Vol. 1
X-Men by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee Omnibus Vol. 2
X-Men: Bishop's Crossing HC
X-Men: X-Cutioner's Song HC
X-Men: Fatal Attractions HC
X-Men: Phalanx Covenant HC
X-Men: Operation Zero Tolerance HC
X-Men: The Age of Apocalypse Omnibus
X-Men: Age of Apocalypse Omnibus Companion
X-Men/Avengers: Onslaught Omnibus

After Onslaught, there doesn't seem to be any OHC or omnibus that fits the reading order. There's alot of onesies TPB but there are gaps in between them.

message 10: by Relstuart, Mod+ (new)

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
Agreed, there is a gap for oversized collections there. I'm looking forward to get Uncanny X-Men omnibus 3 to narrow one gap area though. :) There is enough material after 3 for a fourth omnibus too.

Claremont did a 17 year long run on the X-Men. Perhaps the longest run in Marvel history. I have all four of the Claremont omnibus volumes and a decent chunk of the OHCs. While I need to go back to see what stories are in what book I remember liking all four of the omnibus editions.

The Claremont/Lee team up saw the introduction/creation of mutants Jubilee and Gambit. We also the villain Omega Red for the first time in an X-Men comic with some additional back story on Wolverine.

Added some 2016 books to the master list here. :)

message 15: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
Looking through that list, I can't really think of anything that needs to be there, crossover-wise. They could certainly do Omnibus of these:
Uncanny X-Men Vol 4
X-Men Vol 3
X-Factor
Excalibur
New Mutants

There were a couple Marvel Graphic Novels which they could possibly combine into one Omnibus.

message 16: by Relstuart, Mod+ (new)

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
I would certainly be into omnibus volumes of many of the books you mentioned. Excaliber would be really interesting. I've always liked Captain Britain.

That would be pretty sweet. A custom bound one just sold on Ebay for over $200 (it was signed by Claremont IIRC).

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
For custom bound you send in your copies of the single issue comics and a company will bind them together into one hardcover. If you think it unlikely that Marvel will ever do an OHC or Omnibus for a particular series, and you own the comics, it is a nice way to have your own collected edition.

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
I would recommend the uncanny X-Men Omnibuses to start. That's where the franchise really took off, but the first issues were the X-Men Omnibuses. The order that Relstuart has them listed is pretty much the order they happened (except for maybe Age of Apocalypse).

As far as the crossovers, most of those are from the 90's, so lots of nice art but the stories vary.

Coby Carter | 1 comments X-Tinction Agenda is on the list twice and both times its in the wrong place. It goes between the Claremont/Jim Lee vol. 1 and vol. 2. Zero Tolerance happens after Onslaught. Battle of the Atom happens half way through All New X-Men HC vol. 2 so I guess it should go after that and following that should be No More Humans.

Camilo wrote: "Hello, I'm just about to start the Claremont X-Men run and i'm planning to grab New Mutants and the Excalibur TPBs as well. What do I have to read before get into this stuff? Thanks!"

The only thing that came before the Uncanny X-Men V1 omnibus by Claremont is the X-Men omnibus V1 and V2, then Marvel Masterworks 7 and 8.

The main thing in X-Men omnibus is the fact that Professor X started the school and recruited the first, "original X-Men". You do see the origins of Magento and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Juggernaut, and the Sentinels, but that's about it. I wouldn't say it's all required reading but it is the beginning. Also keep in mind this is standard Stan Lee writing for the time.

After the X-Men V2, the original title was canceled and the original team showed up in a few random books, but usually out of costume. Those are collected in the MMWs. There was also a short mini-series about the Beast and how he became blue and furry. Again, not really required, but all part of the history.

New Mutants didn't start until somewhere in the Uncanny X-Men omnibus V3.

Excalibur didn't start until 1987, sometime after UXM Omnibus V3 (possibly the future UXM Omnibus V4.)

Enjoy it! The UXM Omnibus V1-3 is some of my favorite stuff in comics.

Actually, where Relstuart has it in the list is correct. After AOA and before Astonishing. Well before Wolvie and the X-Men. You may have missed it because it is misspelled (X-Static).

Glancing over the list, Rel has them pretty much in chronological order.

message 33: by Relstuart, Mod+ (last edited May 10, 2016 10:31AM) (new)

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
Sorry, I typed a comment on this yesterday but must not have submitted it. I had to do a little research to see when/where X-Statix came out. It looks like the material came out originally in 2001 or 2002. Astonishing came out several years later and Operation Zero Tolerance was the X-men event in 1997. So there is a bigger gap there between books than I thought.

I did. :) While it's been a while since I read it I felt like it captured pretty much everything I needed. It's an alternate future so most of the book takes place outside of regular Marvel continuity anyway. I didn't think the companion omnibus it was worth it but read the main one first and if you fall head over heels in love with it then you can think about the companion. :)

I have mine shelved next to my X-collection as the characters are different than those in the regular X books going on at the time. The stories are mainly from 91/92. Claremont and Lee X-Men omnibus volume content starts about the same time as Claremont and Lee's run per Wikipedia.

Bruno Carriço (bchccc) | 242 comments Hi again,

Still trying to collect the earlier X-men Omni/HC.
Have a question, for X-Men: X-Tinction Agenda, the books under it are:
Uncanny X-Men #235-238, #270-272; New Mutants (1983) #95-97; X-Factor (1986) #60-62
Why is it positioned on the list above right after Uncanny X-men Omnibus Volume 1? According to the numbering, it doesn't seem right.

Anyone can shed a light on this? Thanks

Good question, I looked at Uncanny X-Men omnibus 1 by Claremont and Lee and it starts with Uncanny X-Men issue 244 to 269 and vol 2 picks up at 273.

This volume could probably be fairly shelved before or after Claremont and Lee vol 1 since it has some issues before, but also some issues between the two omnibus volumes.

I shelved it between X-men Omnibus 1 and 2 (Claremont&Lee run), since most of the issues are from the same date of Uncanny X-men #270 (around November 1990). The Uncanny X-Men #235-238 probably are just to give some context...

Added the Legion omnibus, Apocalypse Wars, and IVX. I haven't read the Legion material. I believe it was a new Marvel Now series that started in 2012/13 around the same time as Marvel Now and when Bendis began working on X-Men after Avengers vs X-Men.

When looking at the new books coming out in 2017 that we know of so far, there is very little for the X-men scheduled for release. Most wanted new solicit would be Claremont's Uncanny X-Men omnibus volume four.
