Tasha I've seen that book around. I'm adding it to my list!

Mariab | 3059 comments I'm reading Bartelby the Scribe : Bartelby the Scrivener, for the Big Brother challenge. I'm enjoying it very much. It's more close tho Bouvard et Pécuchet than my original 5* book, but I dont mind a bit, because I loved Gustave Flaubert 's work too.
The book has such a subtile humour, that it begins as a soft tickle and rises to a full laugh at the end

Mariab | 3059 comments I have read also All You Zombies fromRobert A. Heinlein and could again confirm what a wonderful storyteller Heinlein is

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I hated Moby Dick yet I quite enjoyed old Bartelby. May have rated them both the same for all I know yet I know enjoyed Bartelby much more. But then Moby Dick is a horrible horrible book I can't emphasize enougj to people to not read it. Too bad because I loved crazy old Ahab and the book had potential to be so much better. Yet peoole love it for some inknown reason

Well, I'm one of those crazy people who just liked Moby Dick very much (I read it in my young years though)... But is well know not all of us could have the same inclination
;-))

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I finished One Thousand White Women: The Journals of May Dodd last night. It was for my real life book club. The book really showed the shameful way the Native Americans were treated.

Next up is The Three.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Just finished A Spool of Blue Thread. It was a 3 stars for me. It has not too much of a plot, but its strong point are the characters, so vivid, and 3 dimensional.

I'm starting now The Martian

message 1309: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I added A Spool of Blue Thread, it sounds very interesting.

Dust has been my favorite of the series. It ties the first two together and has been really interesting throughout. Hope you love it!

I very much liked that one Rusalka, I hope you do too. Been trying to get the second one in but it keeps getting pushed aside

Perfect title for a serial kill.

Exactly! I thought it was going to kill the level too but turns out Rus can't count.

message 1318: by Cherie (last edited May 11, 2015 10:57PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Too bad, Rusalka! It is a great title for a series kill to complete a level.

I am reading The Long Mars for a series kill and the last book to finish my current level. This is the last book in what was originally a trilogy, but will have a forth book published this summer, written by Terry Pratchett's co-writer. I was not completely happy with the first book, but the second one redeemed it. This last one has become almost a nail biter and I am less than 50 pages from the end. I am also reading Sherlock Holmes: The Unauthorized Biography. It is surprisingly good and I am pleasantly happy.

Lilisa | 2770 comments A couple of great reads recently with Orhan's Inheritance and The Time in Between which I read for last month's Alternatively Speaking challenge. The book on Nepal is interesting, not necessarily for its stellar writing but more for a snapshot of what goes on in the world and the plight of children.

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I finished reading The Secret Place and really enjoyed it. This book finished off level 4 in the serial killers challenge. I hope Tana French keeps writing books in this series.

Next up on audiobook is Fuzzy Nation for the group themed read. Tomorrow - going to head to bed soon. There's nothing better than crawling into one's own bed after being away.

message 1322: by Debra (last edited May 11, 2015 10:00AM) (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Finished The Three which was kinda creepy and left me with lots of questions. Very intriguing.

Now I'm reading the next book in an excellent, well-written, series about Merilly Watkins a vicar and Deliverance Consultant (exorcist) in an English village. It's not at all preachy and all manners of spirituality are explored along with mysteries to be solved and some supernatural elements. Dialogue is excellent, too. I've given all the books 5 stars. The one I'm reading now is The Lamp of the Wicked.

message 1323: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Have you ever read the original Little Fuzzy Janice. I have not. I've only read fuzzy nation so I was just curious

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Travis of NNY wrote: "Have you ever read the original Little Fuzzy Janice. I have not. I've only read fuzzy nation so I was just curious"

I just added both of these to my TBR list. Little Fuzzy is available Kindle Unlimited with narration so I'll probably listen to it sometime soon.

I also added the Merilly Watkins series to my TBR. I've seen it recommended to me on GR several times and Debra's description sounds interesting.

I'm still working on reading/listening to The Two Towers. I'm not quite halfway through. I'm really enjoying it, but I want to know what is happening to Frodo right now!

I'm also re-reading the Harry Potter series right now too. I'm on the second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

message 1325: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments You won't regret starting the Merilly Watkins series, KimeyDiann!

Roz | 4528 comments I had a few books on hold with my library, Obsession in Death, 14th Deadly Sin and The Three. Of course all three came in at once. At least I have a 3 hour plane trip home from Austin tomorrow so I should be able to make a dent in something.

No, I haven't. I was just reading the synopsis on Goodreads for the audiobook version and it says the original is included in the audiobook. But, I can't find anything on Audible that confirms that.

I'm reminded of the movie Avatar. It has a similar theme.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I had to go searching for two more books for my Level 8 Serial Challenge. I needed two series books with Dead in the title. Found them, but it took me 50 pages to find ones for series that I was currently reading. Whew. I did not want to start another new series.

message 1331: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 57 comments I recently finished Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum. It's a story of a German lady and her daughter during and after WWII. Really enjoyed it. 4.5 stars.

Just started The Story of Lucy Gault by William Trevor.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I've started The Blood of Flowers for the monthly challenge.

Yes, I do enjoy the Merrily Watkins series and I'm itching to progress in the series. They seem to have taken a back seat.

As for The Three... I seem to only be able to read for a short while before I'm nodding off to sleep. I don't think it's the book.

I'm in the same boat Janice. I really like the Merrily Watkins series but I haven't read any for quite a few months now.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Janice wrote: "Are we going to pick up the buddy reads on them? I want to start book 4. I'm not sure where everyone else is."

I still need to read book 3 as I didn't take part in the buddy read for that one. How soon do you want to read book 4? I'm not sure how soon I will be able to get to the third one and catch up with you but it would be nice to pick up the buddy reads if possible :)

message 1341: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I'm not sure, Lisa. I have to plan my level 5 killing spree. I'm not sure if I want to read this series for the level. I may just opt to read one or two books in it. So, I'm pretty open for a start date. I could even shelve it till July.

message 1342: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments It is not even the middle of the month and I have read all of the books I had planned. I guess I need a breather because I cannot decide what to pick up next.

message 1344: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I looked through my TBR to find the oldest stand alone book that I own and haven't read yet. Like Water for Chocolate was the winner.

message 1345: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I finished The Fatal Tree on my flight from Austin and killed a level as well as my fifth series, but i killed level 5 before finishing level 4, so I'm not posting the death yet. I really shouldn't plan. This is what happens. Hopefully I'll finish Obsession in Death by the end of the week and then level 4 will be done too.

message 1346: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments I'm way behind here and will catch up with earlier posts tonight (or maybe not, since I wouldn't see all the books I'd end up adding).

I just had to let you know that I am in love! He's tall, dark, and handsome, and is very intelligent. His name is Temeraire, and I'm not going to let the fact that he's a dragon stand in my way! I'm thinking of having a species change operation, but I can't decide what type of dragon to be.

I was introduced to Temeraire at the end of April, in His Majesty's Dragon (Temeraire #1) by Naomi Novik , and have since listened to Throne of Jade (Temeraire, #2) by Naomi Novik and Black Powder War (Temeraire #3) by Naomi Novik . I have Empire of Ivory (Temeraire, #4) by Naomi Novik ready and waiting. This series is everything I could have hoped for - lots of action, great adventures, heroes and villains, and Simon Vance narrating. The relationship between Will and Temeraire is wonderful - the bond between the two is deeper than most human relationships. Ok, I'd better quit getting carried away, at least for now.

message 1347: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Hahaha, Jaxnsmom, my daughter Becky has been telling me almost all of the same things you just wrote about the dragons! She has been listening to them too and keeps saying I need to get to them. She loves Simon Vance and found the dragon books while looking for books that he narrates. I think both of her teens are listening too. They both broke their iPods and hers is the only one still working so they are at her mercy when they are in the car. They have to listen to what she does.

message 1348: by Tejas Janet (new)

Tejas Janet (tejasjanet) | 3513 comments Temeraire does sound like an appealing guy, and his being a dragon makes him even more attractive ; )

message 1349: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Cherie, that's too funny. It sounds like you'd better get started on them soon so you can join the fan club too.

TJ, Simon Vance giving him a voice makes him even more appealing.

message 1350: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I really loved the first book in the Temeraire series. I started the second one during our Dragon theme but never finished it. Not because it wasn't good but it wasn't the right time for me to read it. Glad you are enjoying it J'mom.

I finished Ancillary Justice for the buddy read and this month's Space theme and I started The Martian yesterday which I'm enjoying so far. Let's hope I can read this one quicker than my last book as I want to fit in a book for the monthly challenge.
