July would probably be better for me Janice as my reading is all over the place at the moment so it would give me more time to try and catch up with book 3. If that doesn't happen, I may skip over it and go straight to book 4 as I'm not using the series for the serial killer challenge except maybe for 'orphan' points.

I have just added His Majesty's Dragon to my wishlist. I wasn't sure whether to add it or not but you've convinced me Jmom :) Temeraire does sound very handsome ;)

With that raving review, how could I not add Temeraire to my TBR?

message 1355: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm currently reading Ashamet, Desert Born by Terry Jackman . I received it from NetGalley so once I finish it, I'm going to be reviewing it. It's a very interesting take on fantasy concepts. Strange, but very interesting :)

I don't think you'll be disappointed. Am loving this series and have been raving about it for a while. When Lawrence calls Temeraire "dear" the first time, I just about melted. I'm so glad J-Mom is loving it, too!

message 1358: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments You're all making me want to go back and finish book 2. Although now i won't get any points for it in my series challenge but it will be a book read nonetheless.

message 1359: by Tasha (last edited May 14, 2015 04:38AM) (new)

Tasha I finished reading I Shall Be Near to You that I discovered from the big brother challenge and it was so good. It wasn't the one I chose to read for the challenge but I'm so glad I found it.

Now I can't decide which book to pick up next. Sometimes after a good book it's hard to pick up the next one.

message 1360: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I know how you feel, Tasha. Sometimes you just want to take time to soak in what you've just read. I often rush into the next book too quickly because I've always got a huge stack of library books to wade through.

message 1361: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I decided to go with short stories, Birds of a Lesser Paradise: Stories Birds of a Lesser Paradise Stories by Megan Mayhew Bergman . Short but sweet so I don't have to absorb myself right away in another long story. It's from the library so it was sitting there anyway waiting to be read. ;)

message 1362: by Stephanie (last edited May 14, 2015 10:39AM) (new)

Stephanie I am reading To Fetch a Thief (A Chet and Bernie Mystery #3) by Spencer Quinn for the serial killer challenge. This series is so cute and I love that it is told by Chet's, the dog, perspective. Sometimes he goes off on his own adventure and I laugh at myself because I worry about him:)
So far this book is living up to what I like about the series :) I hope the rest of the series keeps me happy ;-)

I've added this to my tbr. Another one I read is Revolutionary, about a woman who joins to escape her circumstances. The author is a descendant of Deborah Samson, who's life the book is based on.

I haven't started the series yet. I have the first book on audiobook.

Stephanie I look forward to hearing your thoughts, Janice :) I hope you like the first book :)

It's #6 on my list - providing some challenge or toppler or group read doesn't bump it. :)

message 1367: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I know how that is :)

message 1368: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Come to think of it, I have the rest of The Iron Druid (4 books) to read before I get to Dog on It, so make that #10 on the list. Those series killers take precedence.

message 1369: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Well bummer ;)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments "Must kill series. Must kill series." ROFL!

message 1371: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Janice, I read Revolutionary and did not care for it much at all. I enjoyed I Shall Be Near to You much better.

message 1372: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished A Broken World: Letters, Diaries and Memories of the Great War which was a wonderful book. It has some really interesting things in it and is well worth checking out if you have an interest in World War One.

I am almost at the halfway point of The Autobiography Of Henry VIII which is taking me a while to get through but I really like it so far.

message 1373: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments First Level 8 Series book. Currently reading The Return. Borg, Jean-Luke Picard, Kirk, Spock and Romulans. Oh yeah!

message 1374: by jaxnsmom (new)

jaxnsmom | 8341 comments Those nasty Romulans. When will they learn not to mess with the Federation?!

message 1375: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I don't know, Jmom. Now there is a Bajoran wormhole in the story and they are talking about Deep Space 9. I had no idea what this story was going to encompas. The time line is a couple of weeks after Kirk and Picard fought that guy on Veridian III over the Nexus ribbon and the saucer section of the Enterprise D crashed on the planet.

message 1376: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I started listening to Child of Fire. So far, so good. It's a bit more "out there" for urban fantasy, in my opinion.

message 1377: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I am starting The Gargoyle for the monthly challenge. It has been sitting on my TBR pile for nearly 2 years but I kept on putting it back for some reason. I'm glad to finally be getting to it.

I have it out from the library so I'll be curious to see what you think about it. It's been on my radar for years but since there has been some buzz about it here I picked it up a couple of weeks ago.

CFDeeDee Imve started reading The Lord of the Ring series .. Great adventure ..
I've tried to start The Dark Tower series but dunno why I can't go pass page 4 !! How weird !! Whenever I reach the middle of page 4 I close the book and few hours later I start all over again !! :S

Enjoyed both series very much. Love the Chet and Bernie series told from the POV of Chet the dog. You'll love it.

Don't give up! The Gunslinger is the most difficult of the Dark Tower series to get through. King was younger back when he wrote it, and perhaps his talent was not as well-honed, yet. I tell everyone to at least get to book 2 before giving up. Book 2 is faster-paced and a thrill-ride. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Dunno why but that kinda depressed me a little :(
I'll try to finish it soon and get the 2nd book !!
I've seen the full book series somewhere in the group but I think I lost it !! How strange ..

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments CFDeeDee,, it's in the Buddy Read section. Here's the link: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/.... They have completed book 4, but are taking a break before starting book 5. I've been popping in now and then to make comments, since I've read the series at 2 times. It's my favorite of all of King's stuff.

message 1385: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Thanks Debra .. I'm still on the first book and they reached very far away XP
I'll try finishing the first book this week .. Wish me luck ;D

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I gave up Wondera couple of days ago. Probably is just I'm not in the mood for a children/ya read right now, I might try it again in the future, but I'm not really sure. The premise sounds great, but the author ruins it.

I'm almost done with The Martian that is being a great read.

Once I'm finished with it I have to decide if I start The African Equation (I have a few days left before is due in the library) or A Fine Balance (for the Big Brother challenge).

message 1387: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments A tough choice, Sandra, but I say you have to be balanced before you can tackle the equation. :0)'

message 1388: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments lol, sounds like a good suggestion, Cherie.

message 1389: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I inhaled The Return and started on Avenger while I was at the library picking up some sale books today.

message 1390: by Tasha (last edited May 17, 2015 03:44AM) (new)

Tasha I'm reading The Winter King for the series challenge. I need to finish up with Level 2 so I'll be working on this series. It's really good, not surprising though as I love the author's stuff.

I'm also reading Birds of a Lesser Paradise: Stories which is good too. I'm not usually a short story reader but since being on GRs I've read a few. I feel like there is something I need to 'get' with short stories and that I usually don't 'get' it but they are often interesting anyway.

Maybe Captain Janeway will swing by to join in the fun. ☺

It does have a parrot, the story centers around him. :)

message 1394: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I'm reading 14th Deadly Sin for a serial kill and I better read fast before I have to return it to the library (no renewal on this one). I also started Foundation for the space challenge and like it so far.

message 1395: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Eek! Roz! I'm super jealous that you have it already!! I'm like 52nd in line! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it! Love this series!!!

message 1396: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments It took me a while to get it . I think I was on the list since January. But I only have until Wednesday to finish it. This is one of 3 series I really like. The other two are the In Death series by J.D. Robb (Eve Dallas), and Stephanie Plum by Evanovich.

message 1397: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I love both those series as well!! Which in death book are you at! I have Calculated in Death to read next :)

message 1398: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I've completed Stephanie Plum but I think the next book is due out in November?

message 1399: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I completed Stephanie Plum for Level 1. I just finished the last available In Death book (Obsession in Death to kill Level 4. The next one Devoted in Death #41 won't be out until September. I really liked Obsession.

message 1400: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I added the Birds book to my TBR list.
Thanks Tasha and Jmom. A parrot that sings old Patsy Cline songs huh?

My sister had an Amazon parrot that used to call "Mother" and mutter in an old man's voice and cuss in Spanish. His name was Pretty Bird. He was quite old and had been through a progression of owners. She had him for years before she found a new owner for him. One day a guy came to look at him and the bird jumped on the guy's arm and told my sister "good-bye". And that was it.
