wow, that is really something! I'm sure it made your sister feel better knowing the bird actually wanted to go with that guy.

WooooW !!! He picked his own owner .. Such a story !! I have a talking parrot myself and it keeps saying "Salam Alikom" and he used to have a different owner before I got it !! Hope it doesn't do the same thing your parrot did !! Little advise guys .. Shall I read the 2nd book of The Dark Towers series?!
I'm totally lost on the first book .. And I'm not really used to Elizabethan English books .. And I have no idea what is going on the first book even though I'm almost near page 100 !!
King does a quick recap of the gunslinger in the beginning of drawing of the three. You probably could skip gunslinger. There are going to be some bits of info you'll miss out on, but the question is are they absolutely necessary to know to move forward. I don't know for positive, but I think a person could get along ok without the gunslinger.Debra, Janice, Esther, Sarah. Opinions I know you 4 have all read at least half the series.
I finished Child of Fire which was an orphan book for my series challenge. Next up is another orphan book, Shady Palms.
I've just started The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. Thought it was time I read it as I've heard such good things.
Travis of NNY wrote: "Debra, Janice, Esther, Sarah. Opinions I know you 4 have all read at least half the series."The recap is pretty good at the beginning of the second book. Book 2 is fantastic and I'm pleased I didn't let book 1 sway my decision about the series. I guess not reading book 1 wouldn't affect enjoyment and understanding in book 2 but it may impact on the understanding of the character relationships in book 3. You could pick up book 2 then if you get hooked, you'll have more vested in he series and you might find going back to the gunslinger easier.
Reading Ghost Road Bluespretty good but definitely should be read in October not May. This is either the third or possibly 4th different series I've picked up by Maberry and I like gow each one is really its own without a lot of overlapping ideas.
While The Gunslinger isn't my favourite and was a bit confusing, I think it's necessary because of Jake and the Man in Black. It sets everything up.
I just finished Ancillary Justice for the theme/buddy read. I am starting The Martian for the theme read as well. I also am reading The Scorch Trials for my serial killer list.

(He did not mention him by name, but only referenced that he had interfaced with a fictional human detective.) "He was quite illuminating in his understanding of motive, opportunity, and technique. Though his violin skills are rudimentary, at best." Oh,and by the way, if you get thrown in jail on Vulcan, they put you in a holodeck "cell" in a garden setting dedicated to Surak, where you are supposed to "meditate and reflect on your wrongdoings". A great rundown on how the holodeck works too, while they were trying to break out (Jim and Spock).
I just finished The Martian, which was a total 5 stars to me. I'm happy I gave it a try, since I'm not a sci fic reader at all. Amanda, I hope you enjoy it too.
I started Plot & Structure: Techniques and Exercises for Crafting a Plot That Grips Readers from Start to Finish. I'm not thinking in write a novel. Far from that. But I really would like to know more about the structure of a novel, and the process of writing one. I would like to review the books I read in a more regular way. I don't have time now, but I will in the future (hopefully), so I'm trying to have a deeper insight about plot, characters, setting, dialogs, etc., in order to be prepared.
I'm only a few pages into The African Equation, and I'll be starting A Fine Balance some time this week.
I have finished
. I still have 5 books to go in this series and I LOVE IT!! There seem to be more swear words, however, in this book than the last 2 or maybe I'm just more aware of it this last book, lol! I tend to change the swear words to something else when I'm reading. Anyone else do that, or am I just the odd duck? :-) nothing against swearing, I've just decided to try not to swear if I can help it :-)
It has been quite a long time since I have read a Kathy Reichs book, but I am going to tackle
so I can start knocking off more series books. I have a ways to go in this series :)
Stephanie wrote: "It has been quite a long time since I have read a Kathy Reichs book, but I am going to tackle

I have one more Star Trek trilogy to finish, but I am not ready to put it behind me yet. I am starting Dead Until Dark and Dead Man's Folly to get a breather.
I finally finished The Three. It's three (stars) for The Three. Tonight, I will start my monthly challenge read, The Thirteenth Tale. Hmm, seems to be a theme with the numbers.
Janice wrote: "While The Gunslinger isn't my favourite and was a bit confusing, I think it's necessary because of Jake and the Man in Black. It sets everything up."I agree, Janice. Especially the bit about Jake, which becomes really important in book 3.
Wow, that is an amazing story about your sister's parrot, Cherie!Stephanie: I'm always worried about Chet and the other animals that show up in the Chet and Bernie series. Funny, I don't worry about Bernie as much, although he gets in some serious trouble, too!
I hope you enjoy The Thirteenth Tale, Janice!I finished The Two Towers yesterday evening. No one warned me that it ends on a cliffhanger! I downloaded The Return of the King as soon as I got home. When I went to download the included narration, I found out that it does not include free narration like the first two books and The Hobbit did! I'm very frustrated, I wanted to listen to Rob Inglis read the conclusion of the series to me since he's already read the others to me. *hmph*
I didn't have any other audiobooks lined up yet so I am going to re-listen to the Penryn and the End of Days series (Angelfall) to refresh my memory before starting on the final book of the trilogy that was released this month. I need to finish Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban before I start reading The Return of the King. But, I may put Harry to the side so I can catch up with my Hobbit friends. #ihatecliffhangers
I gave up The Gunslinger .. I swear I tried finishing it but I couldn't !!It mixed up my head .. It was too much for me to handle and to understand !!!!
Perhaps it is only me !!
Perhaps it is the book !!
Finally back to The Fellowship of the Ring .. Its getting even much more exciting :D
Adventure is my most favourite thing <3
It is the book. If you looked up the gunslinger thread from last fall you'd see many posts of confusion. Really you never begin to ubderstand it until you read further into the series
I finished the Sookie Stackhouse book. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. Onto the Hercule Poirot story now.
Debra wrote: "Wow, that is an amazing story about your sister's parrot, Cherie!Stephanie: I'm always worried about Chet and the other animals that show up in the Chet and Bernie series. Funny, I don't worry ..."
Same here, Debra :) especially when Chet gets out on his own. He is one tough dog! :)
@ Debra, Sara & Berit - I've heard so many good things about this book, and I'm really looking forward to it.@ CFDeeDee - You may find after read books 2 and 3 that you might want to pick The Gunslinger up again. It may make more sense to you then. And read our Buddy Group read of the Dark Tower Series. Be sure to ask questions and we'll help fill in the blanks. I found it really helpful to read with other people.
@ Kimberly - how are you doing with that book? I started it a long time ago but I put it down one day and didn't get back to it, for no particular reason. By the time I went back to it, I would have had to start it all over again. I still plan on doing that.
I'm reading a cute book Emily Carr and Her Dogs: Flirt, Punk, and Loo. And just finished Madam, Will You Talk?. The first time I've re-read any Mary Stewart since adolescence. It was pretty good, but kind of a let down for sure. Way too much coincidence in the plot. And the romantic aspect was rather laughable. It seemed dated. Not sure if it's the book or me. Probably both.
Debra wrote: "The Thirteenth Tale is a 5-star read, Janice. Enjoy!"I loved it too! The story is engaging and the writing is beautiful.
Finished up Ghost Road Blues. Giving it 4 stars but orobably will wait til October to finish te trilogy since it is really October reading material starting in september and trilogy ends halloween. Now going to start either Assassin's Apprentice or The Dark Monk although I've had Wild cards I loaded for a long time and obly listened to 10 minutes so I need to start working through that sonetime. Why does the m key have to be next to the backspace. The reason I have so many n in place of m is I always hit backspace instead of m so i aim hard left on m which usually lands the n
Thank you Travis and Janice for the points out .. I'll try to read few more books before I decide reading it again !! All what you read guys sounds interesting .. I just might add few of those books into my to read list ..
I'm still reading The Winter King which I am loving and savoring. Man, can Bernard Cornwell write. I think I'm enjoying this series more than his Saxon series...maybe. It's so good.
Travis of NNY wrote: "Finished up Ghost Road Blues. I really liked the whole trilogy. Some really creepy parts. Great horror writing. It made me start reading more stuff by the author, Jonathan Maberry
I'm still reading the 5th in the Game of Thrones series. I wish the author hadn't split books 4 and 5 up the way he did. It would have been better to stay with the chronology of events instead of just concentrating on certain characters in book 4 and others in book 5. Travis, I wish I'd known about the site that shows you how to read 4 and 5 together. That would have been more to my liking.
Janice wrote: "@ Debra, Sara & Berit - I've heard so many good things about this book, and I'm really looking forward to it."Janice, this book is amazing, I highly recommend :)
Sandra wrote: "Debra wrote: "The Thirteenth Tale is a 5-star read, Janice. Enjoy!"I loved it too! The story is engaging and the writing is beautiful."
I agree. So engaging, I had to set my alarm at 0600 am today to finish it!
Debra ir was my challenge book so I wtote a good paragraph on it over there. The ya stuff i wasnt thrilled with but I like this and Joe Ledger
Travis of NNY wrote: "Debra ir was my challenge book so I wtote a good paragraph on it over there. The ya stuff i wasnt thrilled with but I like this and Joe Ledger"I've read several of the Joe Ledger books and really like them. Always some new evil to fight. I hope to complete the series to date this year.
Shady Palms was utter trash. Moving on - The Reluctant Assassin is up next. I got this with SYNC's free offerings last summer. It's book 1 in a series, so it will be and orphan book for level 5.
I'm so mad! There are no more Games of Thrones (Song of Ice and Fire) books printed! I had thought 6 and 7 were done. Martin is publishing a prequel next! Soooooo frustrating!
Debra wrote: "I'm so mad! There are no more Games of Thrones (Song of Ice and Fire) books printed! I had thought 6 and 7 were done. Martin is publishing a prequel next! Rusalka do you still know where to find yhe link to tgat GRRM song about winter coming and hurrying the hell up. I think Debra needs it about now
