Yay! I'm happy to hear that! I'll have to bump it up for a read soon then. :)

I will look forward to hearing what you think of it Tasha. Hopefully you will enjoy it just as much! :)

Tasha Sounds like I will. My mom read it too and loved it. :)

That's always a good sign. I have just recommended it to my mum so I'm hoping that she will read it soon too.

Well finished it last night. I enjoyed the book but got to dislike the main character Ellis as the book moved on. I know she had hard decisions to make but she seem selfish to me.

message 57: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18549 comments I started Theft of Swords yesterday which I'm loving - it has the first two books of the series in it - I wasn't sure whether to read both back to back but now I'm hooked so will probably go straight through both. I'm also reading Throne of Jade but I've put it on the back burner for now. I've had a real reading slump over the last couple of months and struggled to pay attention to the books I'm reading and Throne of Jade is feeling a little like a chore even though I'm enjoying it. However, Theft of Swords has got me back on form and I'm loving it. Perhaps I need to prioritise my book reading for a bi, going with books I know I'll like and that are fun reads.

message 58: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Glad to hear you are enjoying Theft of Swords since it's up next for me as well. :)

HOLY HELL, it's 8:39 a.m. and I have to shower and get dressed and go to work. All I really want to do is go back to bed. LOL

Get to work, Janice!

message 62: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Goodnight Rusalka and have a great day at work Janice! It is 10:45 am here :-) getting ready to dig into more of my Harry Potter book!!

message 63: by Mariab (new)

Mariab | 3059 comments I finished 'Calling on Dragons' and will stop before finising the Serie with the 4th book.
I have decided I'll read Das Parfüm for the Best Seller challenge ( I' ll read it in original German, that is all right it's not? After all the book was published in English and that shall be enough to fill the requirements...)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Listened Lazarillo de Tormes this morning. It's a short book first printed in 1554, and the author is anonymous. It longed only 2 hours but it's so funny and entertaining.
It's the first book I finished this year, and I'm glad it was a classic, since I plan to read more classics in 2015.

Still reading Gilead and The Neverending Story

Lazaro is a real "picaro"! What's the English word for that???

message 67: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I am having a blast re-reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone! There are parts that were left out of the movie in regards to Fred and George Weasley that I have laughed out loud at! It is crazy how much was changed or left out in the movie. I still love the movie :)

I've always struggled with diet and exercise, and this authors approach was very different. It was inspiring, informative, and actually funny.

message 76: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I'm off work today with a chest cold. Ugh!

Finished Mr. Mercedes last night and am pleased to see that King plans to make this a trilogy. It was a great ride.

Started A Game of Thrones for my group Books Stephen King Recommends group read. So many characters to keep track of. I hope I find the flow soon. More tea coming to sip on.

I'm 69% through The Scourge of Muirwood and I really don't want this series to end. I should finish it up early next week then I plan to start listening to The Hobbit.

When I listened to AGOT I went to Wikipedia and found a list of all the characters, grouped by House. It really helped. Unfortunately, it keeps being updated, so there are spoilers for subsequent books.

I'm following Shmoop.com which has a synopsis of each chapter. I learned to stay away from the section of characters because shmoop goes into too much detail. I discovered Eddard's destiny two or three sentences in.

message 87: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Travis of NNY wrote: "Ok who is Eddard. I feel like I should know"

Eddard Stark aka Ned, father to Bard, Arya, Rob... and Jon Snow.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Travis of NNY wrote: "Ok who is Eddard. I feel like I should know"

I am glad you asked, Travis. I read all 5 books and I was saying "who"???

Ned Stark is the only name I knew him by. Must be on some family tree chart somewhere as Eddard.

message 89: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments That is what I was thinking but ai'm going how did they get Ned out of Eddard

message 90: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Every chapter with his point of view starts "Eddard".

message 91: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Cherie, I just can't understand how both you and my wife read all 5 books with no trouble given so much graphic violence, death and torture. There is more in this serues than most horror or thrillers contain

message 92: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I remember hearing the single word. Eddard. Just coukdn't place it

My friend and I were talking about Sons of Anarchy and Game of Thrones at lunch today. She's rather shocked with herself that she's so enamoured of Sons of Anarchy. I haven't seen them myself. When I mentioned that I'm reading Game of Thrones, she said she's got the tv series on DVD and will be happy to lend them to me when I've finished reading the book.

Does each season of GOT on tv equal one book?

message 94: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments No season 3-4 both are needed for book 3 season 1-2 are books 1-2. Don't know how future seasons will go

message 95: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I do remember the violence and terrible things that happened, Travis. All I can say was that they were absolutely riveting and I could not stop reading! I read them all back to back. I honestly cannot tell you why I could read these and not others. It is all the psychological stuff that I don't like. I can take plain old mayhem any day.

I got to watch the first two seasons of the show but had no access after that. My daughter read the first four books but has never picked up the fifth, so we have never talked about it.

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Thanks to everyone for the get well wishes. I'm feeling better today, but my hubby is pretty sick. Poor baby.

I have no idea why I'm so engrossed in Game of Thrones. It doesn't have any of the elements I usually look for in the genres I normally read, with the exception of a good plot and excellently drawn characters. It's, of course, also very well written. I'm hooked!

janice, i use http://towerofthehand.com. You can set the scope of the content for what you have see or read and it keeps you spoiler free.

message 98: by Tasha (last edited Jan 10, 2015 05:36AM) (new)

Tasha I loved the Game of Throne series (read them all) as well and am all caught up, waiting for the release of the next. My mom LOVED Sons of Anarchy. Violence in a book doesn't really bother me unless it's done to children. Violence in a crime thriller though is an iffy one for me. I think maybe violence on a grander scale, like war (I read a lot of military reads) while very difficult at times, is readable for me. Violence when done to an individual (like crime, mutilation) that is much harder for me to read.

message 99: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I never was interested in AGOT, but your comments make me want to give it a try. Added.

message 100: by Debra (new)
