What are you reading and why? 2015 version
I finished Burned Friday and started Baby by Robert H. Lieberman on Saturday. I'm a little over 50% finished and I'm finding the book fascinating. My only problem is understanding the timeline. Baby is eating babyfood but is only 2 months old from what I can tell. That just confuses me. I'm also having trouble figuring out what decade this takes place in.
I finished The Providence Rider and immediately started the final book in the series, The River of Souls.I need to get my iphone and ipad prepared for my drive this weekend and for the toppler. Need to get locked and loaded.
I'm reading As Chimney Sweepers Come to Dust to finish up a series and finish up level 1 on this year's challenge. I finished The Empty Throne over the weekedn for the challenge as well. A great read as usual and I'm caught up in that series.
I forgot about The Last Werewolf, that was a great read! I'm going to add that series on my list for this year. I keep meaning to go on with it but always get distracted.
Almost there Tasha :DI'm reading Welcome to the World, Baby Girl! for the series challenge. It started of fun but now it's just okay. Many of the main characters are a bit tiring and start to work on my nerves. I'll finish it but I don't really care. I read the second book in the series first (no idea it was a serie back then) and that one was also not fantastic and I gave it 3 stars. Thankfully it's just a 3 book series.
I started listening to The Bone Clocks on my way to work today and I'm really enjoying it. I'm listening to it through the OneClickDigital app through my library. It's so annoying that it doesn't tell me what percentage I've read like it does with Overdrive! Grr. I like to see my progress when I'm reading.
Over the past few months I think I'm up to 5-6 books which I read amd absolutely know I reviewed which show up as want to read. I find this by seeing someo e elsr want to or reading a book and nothing ahowing up for me. I don't take time to review all but I rate them all. Its the reviews that vanish. Latest one Half a King not only do I know I reviewed, but I think it had 1-2 likes with it yet just saw so.eone rate it and it showed me as want to read. So I clicked on it which some books ahow want to read and when I click them I'll have a rating and maybe a review. But this was 5th time at least review has disappearred. And I refuse to write a new one. i'd just like yo know if goodreads deletes some or what happens. They could at least notify if it is them.
I'm wondering whether you have duplicate versions of the books in question on your shelves. it's happened to me before. on your books page there should be a link on the right at the bottom which says find duplicates. see if that shows anything up. I remember your review of that book and I did wonder when I saw it pop in my feed again today.
When I click on that book Travis and I look at my friends who have read/have it on their tar, it lists you twice - one which you've rated and one which you've rated and reviewed. so somewhere as along the line you have added two versions of the book to your shelves.
I will look into that Sarah. Ibknow I tried to erase some duplicates once and erased some reviews . i don't think I did it quite how you explained it. Hioefully that fixes it because it as been driving me batty lately.
if you use the link I mentioned, it will show the duplicates then you can delete the one without the review attached. hope you get it sorted.
I wasn't sure where to post this, but as book lovers, many of you might be interested in the following news:Harper Lee, the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, has apparently written another book a long time ago. The manuscript was thought lost, but was recently found and will be published. The story is a continuation of her first book.

That is the problem Sarah. Gonna take a while I had a ton of duplicates. Some books with 3 or 4. Thanks problem about to be solved
Travis, I have found that happens a lot if you have different editions of the book. An audio to paperback I get a lot of duplicates that way
I've also had the problem of duplicates. For me it usually happens when I try to scan a barcode using the app to get the correct edition and set the book to currently reading. Then it just adds the book a second time instead of editing the already existing one in the TBR list.
Travis of NNY wrote: "I will look into that Sarah. Ibknow I tried to erase some duplicates once and erased some reviews . i don't think I did it quite how you explained it. I used to be able to add a book and if it was already on my to read list, it would merge the two entries. But since the middle of last year, unless I go to the book on my to read list, then edit it to say "currently reading" or "read" it makes duplicates.
It's why I hadn't updated my christmas haul until yesterday. I needed time to go around and scan all my acquired books in the house so I had the right version, then go through my to be read list and search for each book, copy the ISBN of the book I now own, go to the book first on my TBR (so I knew when I first wanted to read it), edit the status of the book and switch the edition.

I never understand when people update databases to make them less smart.

That is just wild. Of course everyone is going to want to read it, me included. Interesting article about it. Thanks for posting it Kirila!
GR is always messing with the software and making it worse. It's got the worse search engine, EVER! My sister and I grouse about it all the time. This problem with the duplicates is not surprising... it's always something!

Thanks for posting Kirila.
If you make any changes to a book, like adding it to a shelf, you need to do it by editing your review. If you click on the ugly green button on the left side of the page and add it to the shelf that way, it will add a duplicate to your shelves.
The duplicates also occur when you enter a giveaway and keep the box checked for "add to my shelf". So if I enter one, I uncheck that box and then I'll add it myself so it goes on properly (or not bother if I already have it on one).
When it comes to pumping out new novels Joe Hill is definitely not his fathers son. While King continues publishing a steady flow, Hill is well I don't know. I searched amazon and goodreads trying to sniff for word of a new novel. Nothing. Does anyone know if Mr. Hill has anything in the pot being prepared.
I searched not too long ago. His website states he has written a new novel called The Fireman but isn't out until 2016.
Interesting Sarah the one rwviewer with apparently secret knowledge says more like Andromeda Strain less like Hell House. Wonder if it will be sci fi thriller type thing or what they means.
Sounds intriguing doesn't it. Not going to think about it now though what with a whole year to wait. That reminds me, I need to read The Andromeda Strain.
I finished The River of Souls and killed a series. Tomorrow, I will start A Land More Kind Than Home.
I remember the movie from waaaaayy back! I still can see the lazer burn on the guy's cheek. I thought it was SO horrible. I can still recall the older woman going into the trance when the red lights started flashing too! I can't remember how many times I read the book. I think you will like it Sarah and Travis.

ähem, that link isn´t working anymore...
I am reading One of Our Thursdays Is Missing for my series challenge. I love Jasper Fforde and I love Thursday Next. But I am enjoying this book so much more because I have read so much more. I'm getting all these jokes I would have missed, including one about Smilla's Sense of Snow. Yay for reading around the world! Now I'm wondering if I should go back and read them all again as I have more literary knowledge than 10 years ago. Maybe... But there's all these books I haven't read yet...
I noticed the same Vi, but the news is in many other portals. This one was sent by a book club friend to me:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/enterta...
I didn't read it yet, though.
It was in the Canberran paper in Australia today, so I am sure it is on most news sites around the place. If you can't find it, and Kirila's and Sandra's links don't work, I'll send you a heap.
George RR Martin tweeted that he found this article disturbing - http://jezebel.com/be-suspicious-of-t...

The link in my reply (which I have now removed) doesn't work, but go to the original message 316 and the link works there.

I have never read a Joe Hill book, but I do enjoy Kings books. I just started 13 Reasons Why, a Why A novel. It is short so I think I can get it in before the Toppler, I am enjoying it so far.
I just finished Hair of the Dog by Laurien Berenson for a series read. I still have a long way to go to finish this series. They are entertaining murder mysteries with dog shows thrown into the mix. It is pretty easy for me to finish her books in just a few days :)
I just finished 13 Reasons Why, it was exceptional! I believe all teens, parents of teens, grand parents of teens, and anyone who knows or has ever been a teen should read this. That means you! I just thought the message was so strong, your actions, However small affect those around you even if you think they don't
