What are you reading and why? 2015 version

I am now going to start Printer's Devil Court which is one of the books that I got for Christmas.

Reading One KIck by Chelsea Cain , which I got from the library

Added the Pendergast series to my TBR. I love an eccentric lead character. :)

I am reading:
The Blade Itself for a buddy read and the series challenge
The Daylight War, just because and for the series challenge.
I am listening to A Red Herring Without Mustard. Again.. series challenge.
I just finish the first book in Theft of Swords and while I promised myself I would finish a least one of the other book before starting it, it is going to be hard not to read a bit just to know what the story will be. I guess this group just gained another fan of this series.

I am now starting Mystery in White: A Christmas Crime Story which was something of a surprise bestseller in the UK over Christmas.

I just finished it too at midnight last night. A friend called it crack, and I am soooo addicted. I think about the book all day long. Tonight, I'm going to start watching the first season.
I have to work today and it's almost 10:00, so I've got to put down my laptop and come back later.

I have nine to go. Why did I think I had only 4 to go?

I read Best Served Cold and have Blade on my tbr as part of the Series Challenge. Love his writing.

I keep hearing that. I'm planning to read it soon, but it seems to be getting mediocre reviews.

I also finished reading The Rosie Effect a couple of days ago. I liked it. I agree that The Rosie Project is a better book (it was actually a 5 stars for me), but I don't think this second book is so bad. Probably because I wasn't expecting it to be as good as TRP. It would be better if it were a shorter book like TRP, and if the author would have focused in less topics at the same time (too many side stories going on), but I enjoyed the reading.
In addition TRP had an advantage over TRE, at least for me, that was the surprise. I wasn't expecting it to be so humorous at all. This definitively added points. On contrary, when I read TRE I was expecting Don to make me LOL, and I suppose it's easier to be disappointed in this case. Anyway, I gave it 4 stars.

What ripped my heart out were the daughters - Arya, Sansa, and Dany (for she was a daughter too). And they are what has me anxious to start reading the next book.
What about you Travis?

@Kristie - have you read the first one? @ Sandra - I missed the dialogue and interactions between Don and Rosie, so this one felt flat for me compared to the first. I still liked Don's character though.

Well everyone's tastes are not the same. There are folks who really enjoyed this one too. I gave The Rosie Project 4 stars and The Rosie Effect 2 stars.

Good luck! :-)

That's true. In TRP there was more about the couple. In TRE is more about Don and his interaction with many other people.

I think I'll start with Ill Wind.

What you think of Tomorrow, Cherie?

I totally loved the writing and the characters. I am not too sure the war situation is plausible, but I enjoyed the action and how the teens treated each other and could work together so well. I am looking forward to the next story!

But so glad you liked it overall! I was impressed reading the last one to find out how good the writing was. I thought I just hyped it up in my uncultivated teenage mind, but no, it's pretty good.

This is my review: www.goodreads.com/review/show/1143427660

Tomorrow I will be starting Bellman & Black: A Ghost Story for a buddy read with Cherie.

I am glad to hear that the writing keeps on through the rest of the series. I could see that the war scenerio might have been more plausible in the 90s, and I can understand it in the more rural areas, but what was the rest of the country supposed to be doing while these kids fought an invading army? I can also understand you and Kat loving them when you were teens.

Game of Thrones (view spoiler) Do not read if you have not read the first book.

They're fighting over in important areas. And all the adults seem to have been overrun in the rural area they are in (the town seems to only have a pop of a couple of hundred), so locked up as POWs.
The problem that has always been at the back of our minds here in Aus is that we have an insanely big land mass (7,682,300 sq kms), with not many people (23 mill). How on earth do you defend that? Do you chose to defend the cities with the infrastructure, or the rural/country areas with the food production capabilities? Do you dump Victoria to the invaders and defend just New South Wales? How do we defend "The Australian mainland has a total coastline length of 35,876 km (22,292 mi) with an additional 23,859 km (14,825 mi) of island coastlines"?
The long and the short of it is, that we're boned if anyone decides they want this beautiful but deadly country of ours. Interesting thing I love about the series, is they never mention who the invaders are. I have my opinions, but they are never clarified.

I actually thought about all of the things you listed above while I was reading. I "could" see an invasion army acting like the ones in the story do, but could not believe that the government wouldn't be doing "something". (view spoiler)

Your spoiler worked. :) (view spoiler)

That's what I'm afraid of, and what I look forward to. LOL!

Some characters you grow to hate others you hate then end up loving. That is what I love about the series you just never know. And while sometimes its like come on we don't care about their clothes. At the same time it is the meticulous details that really make this series. I can't wait to reread it once book 6 comes out because I find most people appreciate it more the second time through. I'm guessing since you know where the story goes you can sit back abd really appreciate the descriptions to this in depth world Martin has made

Right now, I'm working on completing Blue Labyrinth for the Pendergast series. If you've not read this series, I highly recommend it. Pendergast is an eccentric FBI agent; not your run-of-the-mill character. The supporting characters are awesome, also. Great thrillers.
