Joco | 9 comments I'm currently reading The Final Empire, the first book in Mistborn Trilogy and I'm in love with it so far.

Teanka Debra wrote: "I'm so mad! There are no more Games of Thrones (Song of Ice and Fire) books printed! I had thought 6 and 7 were done. Martin is publishing a prequel next! Soooooo frustrating!"

Heh and I remember that I read A Game of Thrones / A Clash of Kings back in 1998 for the first time. I liked it a lot back then, it was just a regular fantasy book. But now with all the hype and the time passed it's no longer one of my favourites. I haven't even read the last volume yet and am in no hurry to do so(and I must have read the first one at least 3-4 times over the years).

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments I am reading History of the Rain. Although the style is different, I like it.

message 1458: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished The Gargoyle for the monthly challenge. I gave it 4 stars in the end. It was beautifully written, the plot was intriguing (not to mention moving and harrowing at times) and the characters were interesting. It was a different book from what I was expecting which was a pleasant surprise. However, it took me a while to get into it and there were a few occasions throughout the book where my attention wandered a bit which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.

I am going to start The Observations later today.

message 1459: by Tasha (last edited May 24, 2015 07:51AM) (new)

Tasha I'm happy to hear you liked it, Lisa. It's still sitting here but got bumped for a book that has to get returned sooner to the library. Once I finish my current read (almost done) I'll be starting Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy: Four Women Undercover in the Civil War.

I'm just about finished with The Winter King and The Patron Saint of Liars (audio). Enjoying both very much.

message 1460: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Right now I'm reading Shatter Me just a fast read before finishing The Lord of the Ring

message 1461: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I have finished Bones to Ashes (Temperance Brennan, #10) by Kathy Reichs for the series challenge. It is going to be awhile I think before I kill off this series ;) I had a very hard time liking this book until about half way through. It was very boring. I think I remember that about her books though. Too bad I cant just start from the middle of each book becaue the OCD person in me would have a fit :p

Good one, Janice and Travis!

message 1463: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished the first Temperence Brennan book, Déjà Dead yesterday. It has been on my Nook for almost two years after I bought it on sale, along with a whole slew of other #1 series books (which I have not read yeat either).

I did like it though. She was funny sometimes, which I had not expected. It was hard at times to shut up that little voice in the back of my head which kept trying to compare the book character with the TV character. I am interested in getting to know the book character after this though, so I will continue with the series as I can fit them into my other levels.

message 1464: by Cherie (last edited May 24, 2015 09:36PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I am back to my Star Trek trilogy called Totality with Captain's Blood. I have finished over 80 pages of this book but I feel like the books in The Mirror Universe Trilogy may need to be read first, before I finish this one though. I am off to check them out.

message 1465: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I just had to restructure my current series level and buy three new books. My search for The Mirror Universe Trilogy books confirmed that the story lines in The Totality Trilogy are after the events in the three Mirror Universe books. I moved The Totality Trilogy down a level and will go back and reread Captain's Blood at the proper time and level. So - starting Spectre now.

A friend of mine pointed out The Odyssey Trilogy to me after he saw a comment I made about the first book in the Totality trilogy. I wish he had mentioned the order of the trilogies and maybe he did, and I missed it. It was a couple of years ago and I thought I would never enjoy the William Shatner books as much as I have so far. I had stopped buying and reading ST books for a long time because I thought there was nothing new. Wrong. It is like Sherlock Holmes. People just keep writing more stories and I go on a binge. I think I have B.R.D. as much as B.E.D.

message 1470: by Debra (last edited May 25, 2015 03:33AM) (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Teanka, I've really enjoyed the series so far, although the author has made me mad killing off favorite characters and with the way he did in 4 and 5, AND the fact that he hasn't published the next in the series. Book 5 was published in 2011. Come on, Martin, get with it! Now I see he is releasing a prequel, not a sequel. I don't care what happened before the first book! I want to know about the characters I've already crammed into my feeble mind. At this rate, I will have forgotten a lot and will have to start over. AND (view spoiler)

That is a really good point Janice and I am surprised that wasn't discussed at the book club meeting.

That's precisely why I'm in no hurry to finish. It was the same with Robert Jordan 's Wheel of Time: I reread it all after Brandon Sanderson wrote the ending, and previously I stopped reading around volume 8 if I remember correctly.

I know how that goes! I love the Bones TV show and it's so difficult to keep things separated.
I actually never finished the first book. I started reading a paperback copy of it and then I moved to another country. In the process of moving, a bunch of my books got stolen and I haven't had the chance to replace them yet.

message 1478: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments What kind of evil can steal books??? What's wrong with this world?? Nobody thinks in other people's feelings??

message 1479: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments It depends if they were stolen to pawn or was someone so poor they had to steal them meaning at least we have literate criminals. I know I know the library is free

message 1480: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I am really enjoying Watchdog (Melanie Travis, #5) by Laurien Berenson . I really like this series. Melanie always finds herself investigating murders. I am looking forward to seeing how this book wraps up. I may finish it tonight since hubby has school!

message 1481: by Amanda (Mandy) (new)

Amanda (Mandy) | 762 comments I really like the Cathy Reichs books. I read somewhwere where the TV character is more based on the author's life and not as much on the fictional characters. That is why the TV character is also an author.

Oh, that is interesting. Thanks, Amanda!

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I read The Martian for the Group Read all in one day, yesterday. It was a suspense thrill-ride. I gave it 5 stars. I just couldn't put it down!

Now I'm reading The Postman for the challenge. It's pretty good, too. Interesting premise.

You can do it Peggy! Are you enjoying it so far?

message 1486: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I am! Still loving all the books in the series :) It's just that it's too heavy to take along and I can only read it at home. I've been reading it for over a month now, and all the books take some effort to read (small print, so many people and things happening, I have to pay attention), and I always feel like I really accomplished something when I finish :D

message 1487: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Wow, Peggy! I have not started TFC yet. I want to but so many other books to read. I want to savor it.

That's great! :D I will get to the rest of the books eventually. Dragonfly In Amber is starting to look really tempting.

message 1489: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I have started Calculated in Death (In Death, #36) by J.D. Robb for the series challenge. There are only 4 books left after this one for me to read to kill the series (5 if I count the latest book not due out till September of this year). This series is so good that I don't want to be caught up on it, lol! The banter between Eve and her cop partner Peabody is great! They have such a great relationship. Same with Eve and her hubby Roarke. I think these books would be a great television series...but only if they follow along with the books ;-)

message 1490: by Cherie (last edited May 28, 2015 12:27AM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished Spectre, which ended in a cliff hanger and will be starting the next one in the trilogy - Dark Victory as soon as I finish working for the day.

Oh, I forgot to say, Jmom, that Kate Janeway was in Spectre - as the Mirror Universe counterpart. Our real one is still lost out in the Delta Quadrant. Oh, and the Mirror Universe Spock had a daughter named T'Val with Saavik. How about that????

message 1491: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I finished The Reluctant Assassin which was an okay YA time travel story. I won't rush to finish the series though.

Tomorrow, I will start Tricked in an attempt to eventually finish off that series.

message 1492: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I finished The Thirteenth Tale for my monthly challenge read. I will start Hollow City which I was challenged to read in another group.

message 1499: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee Currently I'm reading Fangirl .. Not on my reading list but I found it among my sister's collection and thought of giving it a shot since I kinda liked Attachments so I thought "why not !!" Just another quick reading before finishing TLOTR .. Yes its been more than 3 months since I started reading the first book and still didn't finish it yet XP

message 1500: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I never read The Observations in the end. Life got in the way so I never got around to picking it up and now I am not really in the mood for it so I am going to read something else instead. I have decided to go with Retribution Falls which sounds like it could be quite fun and it may fit the monthly challenge too.
