Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I finished The Hundred-Foot Journey. It's one of the few books where the movie was better.

Next up is The Republic of Thieves for my serial killer challenge.

I still have to see the movie for The Hundred-Foot Journey, but I'm hoping I like it more than the book, I read it last year and thought it was good but no where near as good as I thought it would be.

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I really enjoyed the movie which is why I wanted to read the book. There are some big differences. In the movie, the family stays in Lumiere. There's just a short bit when Hassan goes to Paris.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I just finished listening to Drums of Autumn. Oh, I really loved it! It has been a marathon listen in, but there is not much else to do if you cannot sleep, cannot read without getting a headache, and don't mind rewinding when you do manage to fall asleep. I set the timer for 30 minutes at a time. I have been sick the last few days. I tried working from home, but gave up and went back to bed today. Cough and fever and my hips are so sore from laying in bed. I am hoping the worst is behind me. Two more days to finish packing my office. Why now?

Yay! Glad to hear you are enjoying 'The Angel's Game' Debra! :) I loved it too, not quite as much as The Shadow of the Wind, but I rounded it up to 4.5 stars. The next book The Prisoner of Heaven is good too although it was my least favourite of the three so far.

I should try this when Jeff's not in the bedroom with me watching TV. You're right, I could knit AND listen! That would be awesome.

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Lisa, I'll definitely go on with the series. Sorry to hear the 3rd one might not be as good, tho.

I still gave The Prisoner of Heaven 4 stars but it was the weakest of the series for me so far. I can't wait for the next book to be published! :)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Well time just hasn't been on my side lately and seems my mind is always racing with one thing or another so I can't even focus on audiobooks so slowly working througj The Skull Throne. It is fantastic so far so guess you could say I'm savoring it. This one is a bit slower pace I think but much deeper. Either that or Brett leeps improving as a writer on each book. Actually would have liked to have just flown through it but then it'd be over already.

Not sure yet, Peggy. I wasn't expecting to blast through this one so quickly. Now, I can add it to my Level 7 list though. Yay.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Thank you for all of the well wishes and I hope your back feels better soon, Mariab. I am working at my desk at home this afternoon. I feel better as long as I don't try to do too much at one time. The cough seems to be breaking up finally. I have not had a feever since early this morning at least.

Roz | 4529 comments Feel better soon, Cherie. I think coughing is the worst. It's so exhausting. What's this about picking your office?

message 1225: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4529 comments I finished The Shadow Lamp and I'm moving on to the last in the series, The Fatal Tree. This has been one of those long involved fantasy series, but I've others by Stephen R. Lawhead and like his books.

message 1226: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments I am reading the two last of series for the series challenge. A Dance with Dragons (allternating between book and audio) and The Republic of Thieves.

I also started The Little Tiger and His Friends which will probably bore me to death, but i need to do this. I am approaching it as a chunkster. This is going to be a long 100 pages...

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Roz wrote: "Feel better soon, Cherie. I think coughing is the worst. It's so exhausting. What's this about picking your office?"

Our whole floor is having a re-lay out, Roz. We are being compressed into smaller offices. They are doing it on all three floors of the building I am in over the summer. I will be working from home until June 15th, so I need to make sure I have all that I need from my office and pack up the rest to go to storage until I get back. The bulk of it is done. I just need to throw the rest that I do not need over the next 7 weeks into boxes and label everything. I already threw the bulk of my junk away after the last office move. It is the pile of personal stuff that I have collected over the last 34 years that is hard to part with. Most of mine is going home instead of into the dumpster. (I think we could have fed a third world country with all of the money spent on the plaques and awards that are going into the dumpster because people longer have room in our offices to keep and display them all.) They told us originally, that we could only have one box go to storage, but I am not sure that is true. Most people took it to heart though.

Lilisa | 2770 comments Finished The Other Language - a compilation of nine short stories - a good read. Review - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 1229: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4529 comments Moving odffices can be such a blessing. It forces us to get rid of the stuff we don't need. Just recently I finally had the chance to go through all my file cabinets, clearing out old files, contracts, and stuff that went back to 1990. I only have to keep files from the past 6 years. It was very liberating. My co-workers started getting worried and wanted to know if I was getting ready to retire (quit). I told them if I was going to retire (quit) I'd be throwing it all away. 34 years of accumulation is a lot to go through.

message 1233: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I'm reading Alex Cross's trial, by James Patterson. As I am reading, i remembering that I started this book a long time ago but never finished because it was so violent and sad :( I'm about half way through but have had to stop since I started moving some of our things to the new place:) I'm hoping the book ends on a happy note. Fingers crossed :)

message 1234: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments That sounds great about Skull Throne Travis. Savouring is good. I do think he gets better with each book, and I loved the first. I'm thinking of picking up book 3 very soon as I don't think I can wait much longer to be antiquated with the crew. Same goes for Gentleman Bastards.

About 30-40% in. The structure is similar the the 1st books with long interludes. Fun to see more of the old gang but the main story is not getting told.

message 1237: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments That was my problem with that book Esther. Tue main story either never comes or I failed to figure wjat all the flash back business was for. I could have swore I rated it 3 stars yet I see I have it marked 4 stars. Wondering if I clicked wrong. Been debating whether to change it to 3 or leave it.

message 1238: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I know that the flashbacks in the first two books were at times distracting. I shall see how much they annoy me in this one.

message 1239: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I have been in a reading slump for the past week and never started Deathless like I planned. I have decided to read something short to try and get me back into reading again so I am going to start Lord Arthur Savile's Crime which is one of the Penguin Little Black Classics.

message 1240: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments I finished The Door to Lost Pages last night and didn't like it, I've read quite a few 1 star reads this past week so I'm hoping my new read The Wolfen The Wolfen by Whitley Strieber by Whitley Strieber is better.

message 1241: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I really enjoyed Wolfen, Kimberly. Looking forward to hearing what you think.

It was a bit slow in the beginning but its really picked up and I'm enjoying it.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished Lord Arthur Savile's Crime. I gave it 4 stars as I thought it was a pretty enjoyable little story and it had some humour thrown in too, albeit slightly dark. It also appears to have done its job and pulled me out of my slump as I am now really in the mood for reading again! :D

Tomorrow I will start Wolf Winter 'just because'.

message 1245: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I was sitting here wondering why I'm feeling tired and then recalled that I'd read till after 1:00 finishing Broken Harbour. While I enjoyed it, the story was a bit contrived. I didn't quite buy the motive. One more to go and it's back to my favourite Murder Squad detective, Frank. But, I have to finish my current audiobook before I can read it.

I will start the ebook, One Thousand White Women: The Journals of May Dodd today. It's the selection for our real life book club. I'll miss the meeting, but I'll read it any way. Sounds interesting.

message 1246: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments I finished The Wolfen and thought it was a solid 3 star read. It has me interested in reading Whitley Strieber other books. Since I'm still in a horror mood I'm going to read Dweller by Jeff Strand

message 1247: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I finished Pretty Little Liars Friday night. It was okay, but not great to me. I can definitely see how it made a popular television series, but I don't think I'll continue reading the books unless I can get them really cheap or free.

I'm still working on The Fellowship of the Ring and enjoying it very much.

I started and finished re-reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone over the weekend. I'm debating if I want to read the next book in the series or something else. I just can't make up my mind. I guess I'll figure it out around bedtime tonight. lol.

message 1248: by Mariab (new)

Mariab | 3059 comments I'm still stuck with the Shadows, which is boring. First time for J R Ward (for people who just go with de sex scenes may be OK,but I wanted a PLOT also)

message 1249: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Just finished Forever Odd for the series challenge. Very intrigued where the series will go now. Not entirely sure what to read next. I think I might start on my space books, although a couples days early. I do have a lot of them.
