Mariab | 3059 comments @TJ I hope you enjoy the 1st Sookie book. It is certainly a "guilty pleasure". But the Serie doesn't hold the same level through the entire lot (there are 12, plus 3 or 4 short stories. I didn't finish the 10)

Does it matter if the books are not read in order? I have #5 and #7 that I picked up at library sales, but I have not read any of the others. (I liked their covers.) I do not plan to read the whole series at this point, but I have a plan for "Dead" in the titles.

Didn't work for me. I knew it was a long shot, but was hoping. Any series with a book titled, "Living Dead in Dallas," can't be all bad, hee hee. (I grew up in the Dallas area so I'm allowed to say this.)

Living Dead in Dallas

ceeeeg | 14 comments i just finished up with The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins which was excellent...a really good book, tho not a great one, only because i kept waiting for that final twist and ended up having already guessed the ending...still it was a good ride...

and will be finishing up Room by Emma Donoghue tonight...whoever it was here that said it was one of the best reads they'd had in forever was right...oh my word!...i will do a proper review after a few days to let it settle on me, but i want to go back and read what y'all had to say about it in your discussions and maybe add a word or two about my own impressions there...an amazing book...

i will be beginning The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce and Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist next to keep pace with the rest of you as you read...

got to say...the selections you folks pick to read, so far, loving it!...thank you

Mmm. Maybe I will visit that used book store tomorrow and see if I can pick up the first one. Thanks.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm starting The Mystery of Mercy Close. I have to admit I'm only reading it in light of the series-challenge, I don't think I would have finished the series otherwise. Not because the books are really bad, but chicklit is not something I read much anymore. We'll see how it turns out, at least I'll have level 2 finished when I'm done!

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I killed the Matthew Corbett series and was pole-axed by the ending of The River of Souls. (view spoiler)

I also finished The Cure of Souls in the Merrily Watkins series. I am really enjoying this series and am very invested in the main characters and their lives. Love the supernatural aspects as well.

Now I'm starting Nick Cutter's The Deep. Time for some good horror!

I was similarly ticked at Sai McCammon! Really???

I have yet to start Cure of Souls. I must get back to that series.

Sarah | 18550 comments Just read that George RR Martin has released a chapter from the next book. Exciting. It's on his website. Goodreads posted about it on Facebook. I'm on the app otherwise I'd link it. Damn thing. I hope that means it's coming soon.

I'm trying not to read this series until it looks like Martin is a year or two out from finishing it.

I'm currently reading about 10-15 books. (I can read as much as 25 at the same time.) The ones that are really holding my interest are The Devil's Teeth: A True Story of Obsession and Survival Among America's Great White Sharks by Susan Casey. I got this because I just finished her bookThe Wave: In Pursuit of the Rogues, Freaks, and Giants of the Ocean and enjoyed it. It's rather surfing heavy, though, but lots of scary and ominous facts and theories. The other book at the top of the stack is Antony And Cleopatra by Adrian Goldsworthy. Just feel like reading about the Romans after reading The Fires of Vesuvius: Pompeii Lost and Found by Mary Beard and Rubicon: The Last Years of the Roman Republic by Tom Holland.
For light reading: What Would Mary Berry Do? by Claire Sandy and Summer At Little Beach Street Bakery by Jenny Colgan.

Berit | 641 comments Just finished Ugly Love, it was good definitely redeemed itself a whole bunch in the very end. I would say it is probably the best book I have read from her.

message 1017: by Pragya (new)

Pragya (reviewingshelf) | 4026 comments Have you read Maybe Someday, Berit? That's my favorite of hers so far.

Wow, 25 books, Bella! The most I can shuffle is 15, I think.

message 1018: by Berit (new)

Berit | 641 comments Yes, I did read Maybe Someday, did you read Maybe Not?? That was a short novella, I thought that one was really cute. . I think Ugly Love was just a little bit better, not much though., I do want to read Confess soon.

message 1019: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I have finished Open and Shut by David Rosenfelt . It was a good mix of sarcasm and crime. I love the character, Andy Carpenter. He is a funny and witty lawyer who won't rest until he gets the truth. It helped that he has a golden retriever, for me at least. His dog didn't really have much to do with the story, but I was happy she was there :-)

The Merrily Watkins series just keeps getting better and better.

message 1026: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I was having a meh kind of day yesterday. I had no energy so decided... Stat holiday, why am I forcing myself to work? I went back to bed and slept till 9:30. Then I grabbed my now over-due library book, The Likeness and read, intermingled with playing Farmerama and Hay Day (dang these friends that get me hooked on silly farming games - my ipad is now mooing, oinking, and clucking at me). I read till 2:30 in the morning, but I finished it! I really wish I had re-read In the Woods with the group read last month, because she kept referring to Operation Vestal, and I was trying to remember.

Next up is a foray into Discworld with The Color of Magic.

message 1032: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I am reading Going Postal, by Terry Pratchett and just had that wild déjà vu moment between books. In Death in the Clouds, a young woman - a murder suspect, works at a beauty shop owned by Mr. Hugo. In Going Postal, Mr. Lipwig, the new Postmaster of Ankh-Morpork, is standing outside a barber's shop, for ladies, called HUGOS. The letters, which spell the name of the shop, have been stolen from the facade of the post office leaving GLOM OF NIT.

message 1037: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments No worries. I think i'll have to pull out my copy to watch again too. I just rewatched Hogfather which they also did one for, and it's brilliant.

message 1038: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished A Place Called Winter which I rated 4 stars. I do like a historical drama and this was a good one. I really enjoyed the writing style and the characters and I found the storyline to be both thought provoking and moving. However, it was quite slow to get going which is why I gave it 4 stars.

I am now starting Let the Right One In for the monthly challenge and a buddy read.

The audio version of the series is really good. Grover Gardner lets you hear Andy's wittiness, sarcasm, humor, and love for Tara - he does an excellent job. I read where Tara will never die in the series, which I'm glad to know.

message 1041: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 57 comments I'm reading The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud by Ben Sherwood.

message 1042: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Ooh I may have to listen to an audio sometime :) that is good to hear about Tara! I don't think I would be too happy if she ever died in the series :(

message 1046: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I have it on my tbr Berit, as well as some of her other books. I seem to be in the minority who didn't like Me Before You that much at all though, so I haven't read any of her other books yet.

message 1047: by Berit (new)

Berit | 641 comments All her books are completely different, so I give one of them another try., :-)

message 1048: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I started reading Let the Right One In for the monthly challenge but it wasn't working for me and I couldn't get past the first chapter so I have decided to put it on hold for the time being. I will probably try reading it again sometime as I think I just wasn't in the mood for it right now.

I have decided instead to return to the serial killer challenge and the 'Matthew Shardlake' series by reading Lamentation

message 1049: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I just finished Hope to Die (Alex Cross, #22) by James Patterson . This is the latest in the Alex Cross books but I still need to read Alex Cross's Trial (Alex Cross, #15) by James Patterson before I can officially kill this series. I'm 1/1 holds at the library for it but that book isn't due till the 14th :( ugh! I think the person who has it needs to return it now ;-)
I guess I will have to read something else till it becomes available :) oh darn;)

I can't decide to want to read this one Lisa. Every time I see the title, I look at the summary and my fingers will not let my mouse click on "Want to Read".

I haven't met Matthew Shardlake yet either. ☺
