Excellent! Enjoy!

Dan Simmons Hyperion series is also very, very good."

I have other books in the series but really didn't care for Hyperion. Dan Simmons and I have a rocky relatiinship. I keep buying his books even though I go about 50% enjoyment. The ones I really enjoy keep me going

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished The House at Riverton. Now, I can go back and look at the spoilers.

I started Blood Red Horse 'cuz I needed another series to start - NOT!

Still floating through Cloudstreet. o_O

message 903: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments I just finished both Children of Dune and City of Fallen Angels for my serial killer challenge, and Breakfast on Plutofor my Irish Theme read.

I had a hard time staying interested in City of Fallen Angels, I found myself easily distracted and the pacing to be a bit off.

I'm now on to reading The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There as another serial killer read.

message 904: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I just finished Top Secret Twenty-One. I love the Stephanie Plum series so much! They are always good for a laugh and they are light and easy reading for me :)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Just finished The Scent of Rain and Lightning for the monthly challenge. I'm still "woowing", though I'm not sure why. Anyway, that deserves a 5 stars.

I'll start The Girl Who Played with Fire for the series challenge and because I loved the first book in the trilogy.

message 906: by Stephanie (last edited Mar 21, 2015 11:19AM) (new)

Stephanie I'm starting The Mark. I have a lot of these books still before I finish the series.
It is gorgeous out today so I think some outdoor reading will be a good thing to do today :)

message 907: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I finished reading City of Women. It's very thought provoking as it puts you into the heart of Berlin during WWII. It's interesting to see the war from the POV of a German.

I've started The Garden of Evening Mists for my weather challenge. So far, it's very poetic in style.

message 908: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Added City of Women.

message 909: by Lilisa (new)

Lilisa | 2770 comments Read Land Below the Wind for the March Challenge - review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show.... Also read A Man Called Ove - review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show.... I'm three quarters of the way through Sons of Sparta: A Chief Inspector Andreas Kaldis Mystery for the year-long series challenge.

message 910: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments City of Women sounds interesting, I added it, too.

message 911: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I'm really liking The Mark (Left Behind, #8) by Tim F. LaHaye so far. I'm liking it better than the last book, The Indwelling (Left Behind, #7) by Tim F. LaHaye at least.
I just put a few books on hold at the library.
Watchdog (Melanie Travis, #5) by Laurien Berenson
City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2) by Cassandra Clare
The Titan's Curse (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #3) by Rick Riordan
All books in series that I'm reading. I'm trying to focus on reading more of my series books since I have so many unfinished :)

message 912: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 2100 comments I finished Never Saw it Coming yesterday, very enjoyable, gave it four stars; liked it better than the two previous books by Linwood Barclay that I've read.

Yesterday evening I started Extinction Game and had a hard time putting it down; much better than I anticipated. Hmmm, seems I've been neglecting both the group read and the montly challenge books lately, need to get back to those as well.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy Hyperion. I'm not really a sci-fi person, but that one caught my interest. I agree that Dan Simmons is often a hit or miss. The same is true for me.

message 914: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments For those of you interested in City of Women, it definitely worth the read. Be prepared to be annoyed with many of the characters. They are complex and many unlikeable, including (at times) the heroine. I was surprised by the building suspense. I wasn't expecting that.

message 915: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments I finished the 2nd in the Game of Thrones series, and although I got bogged down in all the battle scenes, it still really held my interest. Some surprises towards the end... cliffhangers for the next book. I will be continuing on with the series.

Not I'm going to start a reread of The Shadow of the Wind. I had a hard time with it the first time, but I was in a funk then, so want to give it another try and complete the series. I'm reading it for the group challenge.

Such a wonderful book. I hope you enjoy it!

message 918: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments The Ocean at the End of the Lane is a good read, Berit. Hope you enjoy it.

I plan to read The Shadow of the Wind soon, but I want to read it in Spanish, and I'm not being able to find the trilogy in kindle version. The cheapest I can find is paperback, around 35 dollars the trilogy, which sounds a little to much for my taste...
I always can read it in English from the library, but I really wanted to read the original in Spanish. Let's see...

Camilla | 2100 comments Berit wrote: "I am going to start reading The Ocean at the And of the Lane, , This is my very first book by this author."

Ooh, I absolutely loved it, definitely a five-star read for me. Haven't enjoyed Neil Gaiman's other books as much as that one.

message 920: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) The Elfstones Of Shannara I'm reading this because it's part of a series that I am working on for the year long challenge. I might also start reading Suspicion because that is for the challenge in my other group.

message 921: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Sarah wrote: "Hope you enjoy The Bone Clocks Tasha - It would also count for the Irish theme. I really liked it."

I decided that this one is not for me. I have not been able to retain any of what I've read the night before whithout first going back several pages to remind myself of what I read! I think that definitely means it's not for me.

message 922: by Ava Catherine (last edited Mar 23, 2015 09:49AM) (new)

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments I have just finished Ordinary Grace which is set in 1961 in the USA. It is a quiet book about relationships, but one of the most beautifully written books I have read in ages. It easily earned 5 stars from me.

I have also finished Falconer by John Cheever. Although the subject matter is gritty, the writing is so profound that reading it was more enjoyable than I expected. I gave it 4 stars.

I have finished Unbecoming: A Novel by Rebecca Scherm. The concept of this book is an interesting one, but there are so many places that lag for me, and I hate being bored by a book; therefore, I give it a 3.

I am reading Secrets of a Charmed Life and am enjoying it so far.

message 923: by Joco (new)

Joco | 9 comments I finished Fairest by Marissa Meyer that I really enjoyed.

I am currently reading (and have almost finished) Uglies by Scott Westerfeld that I really like. Even though the beginning was not extremely exciting, I started to enjoy it a lot more towards the middle of the book.

message 924: by KimeyDiann (last edited Mar 23, 2015 01:33PM) (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I finished reading The Choosing Friday night and was glad to be done with it! Practically nothing happened during the entire book except for walking and eating. Plenty of descriptions of scenery and food with almost nothing happening until the very end. I would like to know where this series is going, but I'm giving up on it after just book one.

I finished part one of Winter's Tale this morning. While this book is definitely wordy and filled with descriptions, it is well written and interesting. The complete opposite of The Choosing. I'm only 29% into this chunkster though, so I can't say that my feelings toward it won't change.

I started The Grimm Chronicles Vol. 1 over the weekend as well. I'm LOVING it! I'd been iffy on this one for a while due to mixed reviews, but now I'm very glad I started it. And I will be continuing the series for sure.

I have the same response about him Travis. I have started Hyperion, but never finished it. Other things of his, I have enjoyed, but it is about 50/50 for me too.

I liked it too, but not as much as Neverwhere and The Graveyard Book, Berit. Add these two, if you never read another Gaiman book. :0)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I finished Cold Sassy Tree but was unfortunately quite disappointed. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I don't know what to read next. I really want something not too complicated I can completely lose myself in. Maybe I'll start the Riyria Chronicles.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I'm still working on The Girl Who Played with Fire. It is being a page turner, like the first one in the trilogy. And because of the topic it's being really emotionally intense.

I slammed through all three after I started the first one. I could not get enough and could not put them down. They are very emotional! I was facinated with the characters and drained by the ending.

LOL! Thanks Lisa. I love it when I get to remove a book from my TBR list. It was added as a "maybe" and I am fine with your judgement. I probably will not like it - so it is gone. ☺

I will wait for your review of The Monk. I have not added it to my list "yet".

No, I am just a little over 160 pages into it. The last page in my hardcopy is 426. It is not hard to read. The people are just strange and I do not care about any of them. Some of it is funny and makes me laugh though too.

Cloudstreet is supposed to be one of the 50 Australian Classics to read before you die (according to the list in the Aussie Readers Group). I have had it on my TBR list since I joined GR. I just need to get reading and finish it. ☺

Berit | 641 comments I need a good adult fiction, romance, does not involve deep thinking at all, book that starts with the letter I

message 945: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Someone's doing an Alphabet Challenge! If you go back in the Year Long Challenge thread, you'll find our lists of our own one in 2013 which you will be able to see what we all read if you need ideas.

Off my own shelves:
In the Time of the Butterflies - may be a bit deep. Not a huge amount of romance. But I liked it.
Ill Wind - haven't read it but it was recommended to me by a romance book club.
The Iron Duke - as above
The Idea of Perfection - haven't read but read The Secret River which I loved. The Idea of Perfection won the Prize-Formerly-Known-as-Orange Prize.

message 946: by Berit (new)

Berit | 641 comments Thanks! I'm going to look into the butterfly one :-) I'm not a big romance person, I just wanted something really enjoyable!

message 947: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I started The Crown Tower. Only in chapter 2, but loving it again already! Exactly what I needed :)

message 948: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Berit - not romance, but I found these when I looked through my read books:

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? - funny!
In a Sunburned Country - especially if you already like Bill Bryson

Good luck finding something!

message 949: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I finished The Grimm Chronicles Vol. 1 Monday night during a very strange bout of insomnia that caused me to only get 3 hours of sleep. After finishing it and all of the actual Grimms Fairy Tails after the end, I was still wide awake so I started on The Grimm Chronicles, Vol. 2. I really like these books, they are easy, fun reads.

I'm still working on Winter's Tale. So far I am enjoying part 2 more so than part 1. It is very different and I'm finding myself quite confused about the timeline, but thanks to google, I've got a better idea about when things are happening. I feel like all of these different story lines are going to come together and I'm quite excited to see how that happens.

message 950: by Stephanie (last edited Mar 26, 2015 06:37AM) (new)

Stephanie I just finished the 8th book in the left behind series, The Mark. This is probably my favorite book in the series, because I felt that the tribulation Force is finally starting to get it together to battle against the anti-Christ!
I'm going to read Alex Cross's Trial and Merry Christmas, Alex Cross. I have those two to read before Hope to Die gets to me from the library(it is currently in transit to the library I frequent). Once I get the 3 Alex cross books read I will have killed off another level! Yay!!
