🌆Although New Orleans is the acknowledged birthplace of jazz, Chicago is regarded as the first place other than the South where jazz was heard, and New Orleans–style jazz was first recorded in Chicago. When World War I increased employment opportunities for African Americans living outside the South, Chicago became a center of the black community. Jazz moved to Chicago to fill the need for familiar entertainment.

🌆While the Blues weren’t invented in Chicago, Chicago has definitely earned a reputation as a hub of exploration and inspiration for a variety of artists. From 1916 through 1970, large numbers of African Americas moved North in search of better opportunities in as what is known as the Great Migration, and many famous artists, such as Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, and Kingston Mines helped put Chicago in the blues spotlight.

🌆Every June one of the largest free concert events occurs in Chicago. In 1984, to honor Muddy Waters, who had passed away the year before, the Commissioner of Cultural Affairs created the Chicago Blues Festival. Every year the festival has a theme, often to honor a recently deceased blues musician. In 2017 the festival grounds moved from Grant Park to Millenium Park.

🌆Well-known rappers and hip hop stars, such as Common, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, and Chance the Rapper have all come from Chicago or surrounding suburbs. In July of 2019, an alligator shocked Chicago residents in a neighborhood. The people of the city named the alligator Chance the Snapper. Chance the Snapper evaded capture for a week.

🌆 Originally designed as a traveling music festival, Chicago has been home to Lollapalooza since 2005. Creator, Perry Farrell originally thought of it as a farewell tour for his band, Jane’s Addiction. Early events focused on non-mainstream artists, as well as indie and alternative acts. Lollapalooza’s inclusion of numerous nonmusical features helped secure its success. The word Lollapalooza was first recorded in 1896 and is American idiomatic phrase meaning "an extraordinary or unusual thing, person, or event; an exceptional example or instance.”

🌆 Chicago is an American rock band formed in 1967 in Chicago, Illinois. Chicago is one of the longest-running and most successful rock groups, and one of the world's best-selling groups of all time, having sold more than 100 million records. The group has received ten Grammy Award nominations, winning one for the song, "If You Leave Me Now" and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.
